AIBU to want to express support for women who were assaulted at a political conference?

To want to send out support to the two women visibly assaulted at a political conference.
I am concerned about the other protesters too and actually anyone who was hurt. But having to listen to jeering from the podium plus the crowd chanting in live TV at the same time must have been so traumatic and the publicity will die down and coverage move on but that can't be easy. Just want to send love and support.

I agree. However, are people forgetting that one of their associates has just been murdered. If anyone thinks what this woman did was remotely clever, especially at this time, then perhaps it's time we all checked our standards. She shouldn't have been assaulted and she shouldn't have been there. It was downright fucking stupidity.

The murder of AW was horrific. I can understand people being shaky. But I still didn’t like what I saw.

Don’t you dare use that as a defence.

This was a legitimate protest. There is no justification for physically assaulting someone.

I would find this as revolting if a Reform supporter protested at a Labour conference and randoms started pulling her hair whilst Burnham smiled on.

People need to have higher standards.

Those people who seem to have no problem with those Reform people who acted in such a violent, vile manner, would have plenty to say if that happened, I bet my house on it.

LuckyHazelFox · 09/09/2026 08:12

Ha! Part of a democracy is also to be allowed to support which party you like, without being vilified. When is that going to start?

Not sure it is, actually

I will dare what I want. No it wasn't a legitimate protest. She pretended to be a Reform voter. Don't Tell me to minimise Ann's murder.

I'd love to hear your explanation on that one. Does a little thing called fascism not figure?

Just seen the footage and the grey haired self appointed vigilantes should be prosecuted - hair pulling and what looked like the use of a stick. Security were within their rights to remove them and to call the police to assist, but it looks from tho clip as tho the matter was very much inflamed by the Reform attendees who ‘got involved’. And yes, I’d feel this way no matter what they were protesting - properly trained security and police have techniques for removing such protestors but effectively it was a scrum/fight that they were having to deal with.

Reform needs to ensure that the message tht is sent out is that NO ONE but trained security personnel should intervene and that any Dirty Harry behaviour will lead to expulsion from the event and the party.

So far the response from the top, has been 'Boring', and 'Boo hoo'. I take it, that they have now had time to think about their response, and have nothing to add.

Why the personal insult? This is exactly why threads get taken down. Her murder is going to heighten security and anger among supporters.

It’s not exactly an insult is it.

SmallDFartyCarNRG · 09/09/2026 08:27

It has highlighted how these thugs deal with people saying what they don't want to hear. Man from Portsmouth saying he "didn't believe" that there were 40% less boats so that meant it was fine for everyone to intimidate people on the streets.

Heaven forbid someone says they don't believe they aren't fascists though!

Calling somebody a joke is against talk guidelines. You will then complain when your post is deleted. I'm not going to report it. The thread is already becoming the usual pile on. I stand by my opinions.

Bridgertonisbest · 09/09/2026 08:28

I just want to be clear, make sure I understand …

violence against women is wrong, unless they speak out of turn?

We have freedom of speech but only for Reform?

“Play stupid games, win stupid prizes” is not even a step away from justifying domestic violence because the woman stepped out of line.

I believe this is when a left wing person would be called a snowflake

So she feels strongly about issues. Don't we all. I'm not about to waste my time pretending to be a Labour voter just to get among them and make a fool of myself. She wanted the attention and she got it. So why hasn't she brought charges or has she?

I have no idea if she has or why. In fact she gets to choose.
But how common for the friends, family and colleagues of abusers to try to intimidate and dissuade victims from seeking justice through the criminal justice system.
This is done with threats, intimidation, persuading the victim it was their fault, persuading them people disapprove of them, and laughter- that deadly laughter - at their trauma. Trying to shame women,
So I think if we have political leaders proudly going round doing that then it's a collective responsibility. It's unfair to land that responsibility on one or two people. They may or may not come forward , but probably can't deal with the bigger issue. The more fundamental problem- that of the reaction of elected MPs - is everyone's problem and I'm grateful what the women have done is shone a light on it. It's not the first time those men have tried to publicly gaslight a victim of assault.

More, or less, to some Reform supporters, it would seem. Sad.

No, I responded to the poster about their words. Ann Widdecome was a Reform associate, therefore a supporter, and her murderer isn't brown. That is fact.

Yea. We know. You care about violence against women when they’re the right type of women or the perpetrators are brown. No need to keep repeating that.

What’s been interesting, is that I don’t think I’ve seen one of Reform’s cheerleaders just say “that level of violence is inexcusable”. It’s all been excuses and victim blaming.

I'm not a Reform voter, I'm a Tory. I voted Reform at the last GE as a protest vote. I'm not 'justifying' that one any further. The Andi Peters thread is very quiet. I could say that some only care about racism when it's against a certain type of brown person or when the perp isn't right wing. See how it all works.

It's not a pile on it's just that most people disagree with you. Fortunately.

It shines a light on them, and shows them up for the hypocrites that they are, imo.

napody · 09/09/2026 08:39

It's horrific. The slightest inconvenience or disagreement and they're a violent mob.

"Where's the 5 million?" is a legitimate question that Farage needs to be asked every single day in every interaction.

And Jenrick is idiotic to the point I wonder how he gets through the day. "Cries foul if a pensioner knocks her over the head with his zimmer frame..." he admits he's seen that she's hit over the head with a stick and still waves it away. Old white men can abuse women and the women will be laughed at for mentioning it, and blamed for being there.

I really hope she contacts the police, but this is a problem in general with male violence against women. Even with video evidence it's up to her to pursue it. The police need to be finding out who the perpetrators were anyway. Hopefully they are.

Well here’s the thing . Don’t disrupt and enrage people and the chances are you won’t get your hair pulled .

You really think that justifies criminal assault and people jeering at the victim?

emuloc · 09/09/2026 08:41

Indeed.
