Is Putin a threat to UK ?

With the CIA flying into Moscow, Russia appears to be ramping up the offensive. Is Russia a threat to the UK? Putin wants unconditional surrender from Ukraine which they will never agree to. Is Burnham right to poke the bear ?

I don’t see it as poking the bear but supporting a victim against a bully but on a global scale.

It’s the right thing to do.

But yes, when you support a victim against a bully, there is a chance the bully will turn their attention to you.

But, often others then come and stand by you against the bully so fingers crossed.

TrunkElliot · Yesterday 11:27

Yes of course he is. You only have to look at the Salisbury poisonings of 2018 to see that.

AnneLovesGilbert · Yesterday 11:28

Of course Putin is a threat but it’s still right to support our ally who’s fighting a horrific invasion and war. Are you suggesting we sacrifice the people of Ukraine in case we upset the psycho in Moscow?

randomchap · Yesterday 11:28

In what way a threat? Spreading discord online through troll farms and bots, absolutely.

Asynchronous warfare such as arson and hacking, most likely

Actual out and out attacks. Not likely at all

It's still the right and moral thing to support Ukraine.

LaurieFairyCake · Yesterday 11:30

even if he is we (and NATO) have a job to do.

He’s only sabre rattling because Trumps such a massive cunt who loves him.

JazzyJelly · Yesterday 11:31

Yes he's a threat. That's why it's right to support Ukraine.

I still wonder what Putin has on the orange fool.

TooBigForMyBoots · Yesterday 11:33

Yes he's a threat. That's been obvious for years now.

That's why supporting Ukraine is so important.

RafaistheKingofClay · Yesterday 11:34

He’s been a threat to the uk for decades and we’ve been ignoring it. We even ignored it when he murdered innocent U.K. nationals on U.K. soil. None of that ignoring made us any safer. At some point you have to step up and supporting the Ukraine is and always has been the right thing to do.

Should we have stayed out of WW2 because it was risky for us?

Mizzeldrizzle · Yesterday 11:35

Yes a threat why wouldn't he be ?
He has also directly called us out this time and I fully expect some sort of attack on any drone factory like arson attacks or cyber attacks or even just cutting our cables.

He wants to make some sort of move somewhere not neccasarily the UK that was big enough for the CIA director to fly out .

The Russian ambassador has left the UK.

Has Putin made similar threats to France or Italy or Spain or Czech as they must all be supplying weapons ? The EU ? I don't know.

But what I would say is can we withstand any form of attack and defend ourselves ?

I mean just a few months ago we had a defence minister DRAMATICALLY resign due to no money and army chiefs are constantly calling out for more money saying we are weak !

So I just wonder if we are really in a strong position. To take on Russia??

And we should collectively have done something in 2014 when they invaded Crimea. “Annexation” is quite the most ridiculous euphemism when used about that. It was the start, all the other countries stood by and then they started a full on war.

Goodness knows and who knows that head of the CIA said or why he went ? Do you think instead of warning Putin off whatever he has planned he actually went to collaborate ??

Yep we were stupid enough to ignore /appease him and look where that got us all? His arrogance grew and grew.

Mizzeldrizzle · Yesterday 11:38

We should have collectively done something when he was amassing Russian tanks in the Ukraine border years ago the UN should have been there with tanks facing them

WildLeader · Yesterday 11:39

Where have you been @HumbleStumble in a bunker? Under a rock? Comatose?

of course Russia is a threat! China, North Korea too.

they are obsessed with bringing western civilisation down at all costs.

interfering in our political process, funding disruption and armies of cyber bots to destabilise society and cause division. Look at the state of the world, the hatred and polarisation, all fires fed by bad actors and corrupt politicians wanting to make money for themselves.

on top of this, cyber warfare is a constant threat, from cyber attacks on large organisations to corruption of public servants and MPs. Spies infiltrate wherever possible

china is stealing huge amounts of encrypted data and storing it for the time that we will have quantum computers to decrypt what they’ve stolen

EmeraldShamrock000 · Yesterday 11:40

As long as the UK is supporting Ukraine, supplying weapons to kill Russian people then I’d say yes.of course they will retaliate, I am surprise they haven’t by now.
The CIA was not trustworthy in my option. They push the narrative too on behalf of political powerful parties.
Keep in mind that while the war continues elections don’t.

USA and Israel are significantly bigger threats to the entire world.

Weeellokthen · Yesterday 11:42

I am absolutely NOT a conspiracy theorist. But!!! Yesterday I stocked up on tins and stuff. Russia will attack but not in the traditional warfare way.
Cyber attacks is where Russia is gonna get us. Think banks/supermarkets/hospitals etc.......

Quite
Putin and Russia are working against The Uk in a variety of ways
there is allegedly evidence he provided funds to pro Brexit campaigns and Russia may also support some groups and individuals here such as Yaxley Lennon and Farage
Then there are the online bots and trolls who probably work from organised centres (watch the Undeclared War series) and THEN we have attacks such as Sailsbury and the arson at Starmers former house.
Whether he would out and out bomb us is another matter but he doesn't need to do that to cause us a LOT of damage

MathiasBroucek · Yesterday 11:44

In an ideal world, Putin would not have invaded and would not be poisoning people, running troll farms and the like. But that's where we are

Do we really think that, in order to protect our (relatively) comfortable lives in the UK we should appease Putin?

Mizzeldrizzle · Yesterday 11:44

Putin was /is also behind pushing the boat style immigration here and across Europe across borders. Now they wash people smugglers money and assist in other ways.

Agreed.
But your comment won’t go down well. Zelenskyy is on their team too.

Ukraine wasn't either but Russia seems well and truly bogged down there, and I don't think France and Germany, etc would sit by if Russia did really attack the UK. It would be another European war with the US joining in eventually (as usual). Putin has threatened (at least) France because of their involvement in Ukraine.

DeftGoldHedgehog · Yesterday 11:47

Yes of course he is, and the likes of Farage and Trump facilitate him.

He was not responsible for the invasion in Ceuta. We know who infiltrated that one.
