With the CIA flying into Moscow, Russia appears to be ramping up the offensive. Is Russia a threat to the UK? Putin wants unconditional surrender from Ukraine which they will never agree to. Is Burnham right to poke the bear ?

This is my view, Putin is struggling to defeat Ukraine, a country initially considered tiers below Russia.

The UK is part of Nato and there are multiple Nato countries between us and Russia, they would have to invade most of Europe first before they had any chance of reaching the UK.

While the UK standing army my be tiny Nato combined would be more than a match for Russia, Poland is itching for an excuse to show off what they can do and get some revenge for the last 200 odd years.

Is a nuclear strike possible? Yes but my view is that is a risk worth taking and if it wasn't the UK it would be somewhere else and as soon as one nuke is launched it will be all over. Everyone will launch everything and the world will be screwed.

So is some digital disruption and the occasional spy film style operation worth it? In my view yes!

Arguably Russia has always been an enemy. Started after WW2 and Russia wanted to expand it's Communist ideology. That's never gone away but now it's about wider borders and making money.

😂 although I think it is highly unlikely we are going to find ourselves in boots on the ground sort of warfare against Russia in the immediate future. Cyber attacks and possibly drones. Even the latter might be a bit of a stretch in the immediate future. I don’t think he’s quite insane enough to invoke NATO yet.

Yes, I doubt he will drop a nuke but cyber attacks are very likely.

Putin is of course a threat to the UK, but since Ukraine is not part of NATO we have a buffer zone between the east and west, this is one of the many reasons we have not granted them NATO status, despite several attempts; Had we allowed them in then the treaty would require the rest of the NATO states to offer assistance to another member state and therefore be drawn into a war with Russia.

Politically, as it stands, we can provide certain assitance to Ukraine via medical and food supplies (i'm not sure about how military hardware works but it seems we've provided drones already?) without being direct agressors to Putin, which would cause us a load of problems.

The west is technologically superior, however, Russia, and Putins real advantage is manpower. Russia has an approximate area of 6.6 million square miles and a population of approximately 146 million, less than half of the population of the US, granted, but far more willing to conscript people.

We are Russia's raditional enemy, We stopped their expansion Eastward when they threatened to invade India. Think of Kipling and the stories of the Great Game, read, Peter Hopkirk The Great Game on Service in High Asia etc. We have not been forgiven for our success in preventing that. In their news reports we are regularly the credited as being the root of successful military actions against them, even now in Ukraine. We live rent free in Moscows heads. They have and will attack. But the method will assymetric and deniable by employing the useful idits we have fostered and tolerated within our own shores. The Coal Miners and other trade unions tried it in the second word war until we became allied with Russia against Germany, they then turned on a dime. The next series of attacks will be more deniable, or by destroying the economy by severing under seas communications and pwer cables / gas lines.

It is sad to still see the huge number of deaths to conscripts. I doubt they have much choice. It’s awful for Ukraine who don’t and didn’t deserve the attack, but also for young Russian men that are put into drone wars.
