Is Putin a threat to UK ?

HumbleStumble · Yesterday 11:22

With the CIA flying into Moscow, Russia appears to be ramping up the offensive. Is Russia a threat to the UK? Putin wants unconditional surrender from Ukraine which they will never agree to. Is Burnham right to poke the bear ?

I’m rolling around on the floor laughing Surely no one can be this stupid?

I’ll tell you who must be really stupid - the people that think US and Israel are our allies.

Well they are certainly closer allies than about 90% of other countries

and certainly more so than Russia or Iran

At least Russia are obvious and transparent about who they are and what they want, the threat there is easy to see. To understand the threat from the current US and Israeli regimes you might need to think in different terms. I mean for a start do either of them give a shit about the massive worldwide economic damage they causing right now with their pointless war? You cannot possibly have failed to notice that?!

Russia is transparent

what are you talking about have you totally swallowed the west is evil handbook

you do realise that we are under constant cyber attack from Russia, Russia was behind chemical attacks in the uk and that it’s only sheer luck many people didn’t die

Iran is behind a number of terrorist groups that keeps many people’s lives a misery aswell as controlling their own people

its not either in support of one or the other I don’t support the Iran conflict or the attacks on Gaza but you are seriously deluded if you believe Russia is more transparent or oblivious in how Russia operates

Sorry are you saying it’s tricky to see how Russia is a threat? I said they are transparent because you’d have to be thick as mince to not understand the threats they present! Of course I know we are under constant attack from them, because guess what? it’s pretty common knowledge! You aren’t super clever for working it out sorry. Putin doesn’t hide his feelings about us.

So that’s Russia. What I’m saying is the regimes in US and Israel pretend to be allies (although Trump has pretty much given up even pretending), but their actions dont appear to be those of friends at the moment to me. And Countries that threaten world peace threaten us all, that’s how the world works. Israel and the US seem hungry for conflict, they rushed into the Iran war without any discussion with their so called “friends”. Now we are all paying the price - quite literally. Oh thanks “friends”! Any war hungry power in the world is a threat.

HRTQueen · Yesterday 20:52

To be transparent is to know what the danger is we do not know what the danger is we just know it is there we have very little idea of what Putin will do so no that isn’t transparent

As I said before it isn’t all of one or the other I don’t support the war at all though o understand Isreal desire to destroy the Iranian regime but America and Isreal are not our enemies Russia and Iran are hostile toward UK/Europe

The threat from Russia has always been obvious. The danger we face from those lunatics Trump and Netanyahu might not so obvious (although it is to some of us) but it’s there, different kind of threat but still there.

Oh so you was aware that Russia was going to invade Ukraine

why didn’t you share this information

again Trump and Netanyahu (assuming you are in the UK) are not a direct threat towards this country Russia is

The impact of the war will be damaging more so economically to us all that’s hardly a revelation

You are not really supposed to notice that Trump and Netanyahu are causing a fair bit of bother, America and Israel are much more brutal than Russia in war,
Being aware of Putin’s capabilities, doesn’t wipe out the savagery of Trump and Bibi.

Shock If you think the US is "much more brutal than Russia in war" then you really haven't been paying attention.

I don't just mean in Ukraine or to Ukrainians.

The last few decades have been marked by Russia conducting warfare of astonishing savagery.

Grozny was described as "the most destroyed city on earth" in the early 2000s. Then it became the turn of Syrian cities in the Syrian Civil War, in which Russia was heavily militarily involved including through Prigozhin's Wagner Group PMC. That was before Putin blew Prigozhin's plane up to assassinate him in a suitably dramatic manner pour encourager les autres.

Russia's treatment of its own soldiers is unimaginably brutal. Russia has the concept of "single use soldiers", who are sent in "meat storms" to try to overwhelm the defenders' positions.

Russian officers frequently shoot their own men – "zeroing", it's called.

In Ukraine, Russian soldiers conduct "human safaris" where they chase down individual civilians with explosive drones, apparently just for the fun of it.

I have plenty of criticism of the US's military actions, but the level of brutality of the Russians is extreme. Unimaginably so.

Trump is Putin's puppet. And Putin is fine with sharing him with Netenyahu and others. As long as Trump keeps up on the destruction of rights, democracy, America and law and order in the West.

Trump is the puppet.
Netenyahu gets to use him.
Putin is the puppet master.

This is not USSR vs USA.
This is the POTUS being used as WMD on the West and beyond, by Putin. And Netenyahu seeing it and exploiting the situation. Like Musk. And Kim Jung Un. And the Ayatollahs in Iran.

It's a clusterfuck of cunts. With the senile, psycho Trump making it all possible.🤷‍♀️

Russia has carried out a huge number of war crimes in Ukraine, including but not limited to torture of civilians and POWs, summary executions, indiscriminate attacks on residential areas, abduction of Ukrainian children, sexual violence

Look at Bucha, the Mariupol Theatre, Izium

They need to be stopped.

It’s interesting that this threat comes alongside Russia doing better economically since Trump fucked up the Iran conflict and had to lift sanctions against Russian oil.

Yes, awful in the earlier days. That’s two posts of mine that you have quoted about Russia, how they need to be stopped, both times ignoring that America and Israel are very dangerous to the world too, Putin has shown a lot more restraint than Trump and Netanyahu, the three power hungry grandfathers need to stop, it’s all about the minerals and money.

As you say, Putin could wipe out every bit of tech in Ukraine, if he wanted too, or could he? Ukraine economy is booming, the super car capital this side of the world. There economy is doing well, probably all the expensive dentist and cosmetic treatment their refugees travel go back to have done, cheaper than Europe.

Look at the school girls from Iran, or the 1000’s of innocent people who have been chased from their homes in Lebanon, I won’t include Gaza.

Awful in the earlier days? Are you suggesting they are less awful now?

@PerkingFaintly went into far more detail than I did about Russian brutality. Maybe you should read some of the links she posted.

Of course the wars in the Middle East are brutal. But suggesting Russia is far less brutal is an appalling take, one you should be ashamed of

And that's before we even get onto Russia using rape as a tactic of war.

Russian soldiers are actually provided with Viagra. Maybe some of them need help to rape women, men and children.Hmm

Let’s not also forget Russian money on our so called political parties. Nathan Gill (friend of Farage and a Reform Wales leader)is in prison for accepting Russian bribes. Bots being sent from Russia to promote pro Brexit posts online so that we would be weaker without Europe too.

no one on this tread is claiming that Trump or Netanyahu are not dangerous men or support the attacks that have caused horrendous Unnecessary devastation

but we are not under direct threat from them

if I was a serving soldier what military would I be more protected by the answer certainly wouldn’t be Russia if I was to move to one of these countries let’s say for work what government would I feel least under threat from again the answer would not be Russia of the three countries which county is creating the most concern for our government with their intrusion into our lives it’s Russia

Ukraine was warned by various Countries that Russia was going to invade, sorry did you believe that Russia were just doing “military training operations” as they built up a presence on the border? Aaaah bless…

As for the impact of the Israel and US war being economically damaging well thanks for admitting it but would you like to stop downplaying it? It’s massively damaging and we will all feel it even more this Winter, perhaps you don’t have to worry about your bills? Oh and then there’s always the possibility of more terrorist attacks, because despite insisting we aren’t part of this war, we are allowing our air bases to be used by the US, so that’s something else to look forward to 🙄

Tunnocks34 · Today 13:11

Yes - but not in a ‘he’s going to bomb us and we’re all going to die way’ because that isn’t going to happen.

The biggest threat from Putin and Russia is coming from destabilising our economy and government. There is a reason why the Putin so heavily supports right wing parties, and why they are on the rise across Europe. If you look on x, lots of the accounts declaring ‘Russia is going to bomb the UK’ or pushing the immigration issue so heavily are all accounts set up on Russia, or Nigeria as a form of propaganda.

People confuse what Putin wants and what that means. Putin doesn’t want to destroy the world, he doesn’t want to go to war with the UK, or NATO. He likely wants to claim back as much of the USSR as he can (which won’t be much). He wants to leave a legacy - he wants to make Russia powerful again, like it was before the Cold War.

As I have previously said, starting a war with NATO is not going to achieve any of his goals and he knows this. But - by pushing proxy accounts to spread disinformation around them ‘attacking the UK’ then UK citizens worried. Worried citizens pressure their governments, to maybe stop supporting Ukraine. That way, there is nothing in the way of Putin claiming more territory. By paying right wing MPs to adhere to their beliefs (reform politicians for example have been caught taking bribes) and to massively push a nationalist view, by pushing propaganda which encourages people to vote these sympathetic parties in - any resistance to his plans are removed or dampened.

There are also other attacks he has been doing, likely most of the power outrages and hacks (such as the one at Manchester Airport) are Russian interference. Again - the aim of this is to cause disruption and wear the public down. These attacks have ramped up since the start of the Ukraine war and will continue to be rife until it ends.

1dayatatime · Today 13:21

Is Russia a threat to the UK? Yes but as many previous posters have pointed out not in a conventional "Russian tanks in Basingstoke " way but in a grey zone asymmetric way of providing support to destabilising influences both in the left and the right.

It was never expected that Russia would start a full scale invasion. Even top Russian generals were not in the know. It was greatly underestimated the force which was used, how prepared they were and how quickly they advanced.

I have not down played the US/Israel war with Iran I have said that Russia (again) is more of a threat to the UK than America and Israel are. Its not an opinion its a fact.

You seem to have taken my stance of stating Russia is more of a threat to I am in support if the US and Israel actions. It really does not have to be all of one or the other.

Yes I worry about my bills, as most do I could not afford my bills before and still paying them off from the massive hike a few years ago

Anarchy99 · Today 14:02

The only thing clear from the millions of other threads on this is that we don’t know what will happen and we have no control over it in any case.

People can speculate to their hearts content but even if he is a threat, we can’t do anything about it so it’s one of those things that is futile to worry about.
