Is Putin a threat to UK ?

HumbleStumble · Yesterday 11:22

With the CIA flying into Moscow, Russia appears to be ramping up the offensive. Is Russia a threat to the UK? Putin wants unconditional surrender from Ukraine which they will never agree to. Is Burnham right to poke the bear ?

@EmeraldShamrock000 sorry I wasn't refering to a specific event and certainly not that event. I mean generally esp when it all first started .

I am absolutely NOT a conspiracy theorist. But!!! Yesterday I stocked up on tins and stuff. Russia will attack but not in the traditional warfare way.
Cyber attacks is where Russia is gonna get us. Think banks/supermarkets/hospitals etc.......

What do you mean going to get us? They’ve been cyber attacking us for years!

As long as the UK is supporting Ukraine, supplying weapons to kill Russian people then I’d say yes.of course they will retaliate, I am surprise they haven’t by now.
The CIA was not trustworthy in my option. They push the narrative too on behalf of political powerful parties.
Keep in mind that while the war continues elections don’t.

I wondered how long it would be before someone starts pushing the Russian narrative.

Are you trying to suggest Zelensky wants to keep the war going to stop elections?

Killing Russian people, well that's what happens when you attack and invade a sovereign state. They'll fight back. And their allies will supply them with weapons to do so.

If Putin wants to stop the attacks then he needs to withdraw from Ukraine.

I personally think they all in power have a hand in destabilising Europe for various reasons, including the EU leaders. It’s like a real life squid game.

USA and Israel are significantly bigger threats to the entire world.

Indeed they are

It is always sensible to ensure someone has extra items in. Water, tins, toiletries etc. Better to be cautious when it comes to that!

Who knows, A lot of his people want an election, he knows it’ll split the country.

Let’s us hope that Iran’s allies don’t supply them with weapons to do so, or Lebanon or Gaza, although Gaza is dust.

If Putin wants to stop the attacks then he needs to withdraw from Ukraine.
I agree. Less bombing more talking is required. Russia should move out of Ukraine. Israel should move out of Lebanon and Gaza. America should move out from Iran.

If only.

Exactly. I am only surprised that something hasn't happened yet as a result of it.

But we have been training Ukraine troops and supply all sorts Havant we since the start but Putin has decided this latest help is an escalation and it's one that we are going to defend with a severely depleated defense budget

Is going openly for Putin really on our agenda ?if it is then shouldn't we rapidly up our denfence spending now ( even though it will take years to build our resources up ) and get aligned for this scenrio ?

What is our national agenda and plan ?

Putin was /is also behind pushing the boat style immigration here and across Europe across borders. Now they wash people smugglers money and assist in other ways.

And let’s not forget the small matter of disinformation campaigns and a certain referendum. That one successfully disrupted the U.K. and the EU for years.

Mizzeldrizzle · Yesterday 12:01

@RafaistheKingofClay let's not forget that the EU didnt really do it self any favours or sell itself to the UK public , was Putin behind that also ?

Presidential Elections can't take place in Ukraine when martial law is in effect. This has to be agreed every 90 days in parliament.

RafaistheKingofClay · Yesterday 12:08

It didn’t need to sell itself. It wouldn’t have been an issue if it weren’t for Russian disinformation. And Kremlin disinformation campaigns are more than a match for any facts. This stuff is their bread and butter.

Look how long it took for Kremlin disinformation to turn up on this thread.

True.
I have no doubt that Putin could poison most government officials around the world if he really wanted to do it, he has agents in every wormhole around the world, mass executions doesn’t seem to be his thing. That’s more Trump and Netanyahu’s fight style.
Putin can cause carnage through media.

Of course he can. You’ve already spouted some of the Russian disruption talking points.

Mizzeldrizzle · Yesterday 12:10

Shall we turn this into a Brexit thread ? We joined a single market and then it changed without consent into something much bigger and far more bloated which included free movement and much social attempts at cohesion.

Many people did not like that and quite rightly the people were offered a choice .

They chose out.
The end.

I'll throw another conspiracy theory, there was a very anti Jewish stance from a lot of the Ukraine (we've conveniently forgotten how right wing they were). Zelensky went into politics because he wanted to redress the balance and bring/change some laws, especially around schools. The new, emerging Ukraine is going to be much more to his liking. There's a lot of men in hiding in Ukraine, they don't want to be conscripted. There's a lot of the population wondering if a deal with Russia couldn't have been done. Zelensky still won't answer questions about his Russian investments.
How much power does Russia have re cyber attacks, seeing how their own citizens were left with no access to banks? Were does that power really come from? Re attacks on our streets, it's laughable to mention them. Yet other attacks/murders/bombing etc aren't part of a big plan.

FudgeFudy · Yesterday 12:11

Yes but he was a threat anyway. The latest sabre-rattling is just a man who's clearly made a catastrophic misjudgment that could well lead to the end of Russia as we know it trying to look hard for his domestic audience. Changes nothing and I back Andy Burnham 100% on this.

RafaistheKingofClay · Yesterday 12:14

I have no wish to turn it into a thread about Brexit. But you cannot talk about a thread in threats to the uk from Russia and not mention the elephant in the room. In the same way that you can’t not mention the Salisbury poisonings, DDOS and ransomware attacks on major organisations and critical infrastructure in this country.

itsgettingweird · Yesterday 12:18

Always is and always has been.

He’s a global threat.

Mizzeldrizzle · Yesterday 12:27

@RafaistheKingofClay I don't doubt with all the net taker weak countries in the EU Putin would have gladly wanted us the second ? Strongest and net contributung country to leave but to try and say all leavers voted leave becusee of Putin is utter nonsense .

In fact I vaguely remember arguements that the EU was a dream for Putin because he could just get all his information in one go.
I think it was the ex head of MI6 sir Richard dearlove who said during that time , when we are all chained together we are as strong as our weakest link which was Romania . An absolute gift to Putin.

But his mistake is not being accountable and transparent. When he was asked recently about the threat posed to the UK he didn’t even answer the question just spouted off a load of ‘we must support Ukraine’ stuff when he actually needed to detail and reassure. To say for example that we have intelligence working on it and plans in place to counter anything that may happen as a consequence and that as well as supporting Ukraine he is committed to protecting U.K. citizens.
