Is Putin a threat to UK ?

HumbleStumble · Yesterday 11:22

With the CIA flying into Moscow, Russia appears to be ramping up the offensive. Is Russia a threat to the UK? Putin wants unconditional surrender from Ukraine which they will never agree to. Is Burnham right to poke the bear ?

USA and Israel are significantly bigger threats to the entire world.

True.it doesn’t mean Putin isn’t a threat, he is. But yes USA and Israel are a big threat to the world.

@RafaistheKingofClay I don't doubt with all the net taker weak countries in the EU Putin would have gladly wanted us the second ? Strongest and net contributung country to leave but to try and say all leavers voted leave becusee of Putin is utter nonsense .

In fact I vaguely remember arguements that the EU was a dream for Putin because he could just get all his information in one go.
I think it was the ex head of MI6 sir Richard dearlove who said during that time , when we are all chained together we are as strong as our weakest link which was Romania . An absolute gift to Putin.

At no point did I argue all leave voters voted leave because of Putin. That would be a ridiculous argument.

I’m not even sure he cared about the result tbh. But we do know there most likely was interference. And that when it was looked into the deliberately avoided looking for Russian interference. And we all brushed that under the carpet too.

But his mistake is not being accountable and transparent. When he was asked recently about the threat posed to the UK he didn’t even answer the question just spouted off a load of ‘we must support Ukraine’ stuff when he actually needed to detail and reassure. To say for example that we have intelligence working on it and plans in place to counter anything that may happen as a consequence and that as well as supporting Ukraine he is committed to protecting U.K. citizens.

Right so if he'd come out with a load of platitudes that describe the basic workings of the security services then you'd be fine would you? Since I don't detect many people losing their minds with worry I reckon most people take that as read, and that you'd be having a go no matter what

I have no wish to turn it into a thread about Brexit. But you cannot talk about a thread in threats to the uk from Russia and not mention the elephant in the room. In the same way that you can’t not mention the Salisbury poisonings, DDOS and ransomware attacks on major organisations and critical infrastructure in this country.

Exactly. Johnson, Cummings and Farage were in Putin's pocket. Russia funded the Leave Campaign. Nigel Farage remains Putin's weapon in the UK.

Just as Trump is his weapon in the US and beyond.

Putin owns Trump. Trump is Putin's most effective WMD.

IonianNerveGrip · Yesterday 13:07

He's a threat to the UK and it's in our interests to arm the Ukrainians to fight him. Appeasement doesn't work in those situations.

I feel like Netanyahu owns him too. I wonder what both of them have got on Trump 🤔

Lemonfrost · Yesterday 13:11

He isn’t poking the bear. Russia is the bad guy here OP, be in no doubt as to that.

RafaistheKingofClay · Yesterday 13:12

I am a bit confused about what people think we should do if we don’t support Ukraine? Just let Putin march straight into Europe? What if he doesn’t stop with Ukraine? What if decides that little bit of Latvia or Estonia or Poland ought to be his too?

Exactly. Threads like this always depress me when I reflect on the number of spineless, ignorant and downright stupid replies. Supporting Ukraine is 100% the right thing to do, and we should have down far more far earlier.

Putin is a threat to everybody.

Hoppinggreen · Yesterday 13:27

He was not responsible for the invasion in Ceuta. We know who infiltrated that one.

Some sources say he was, although Morocco had just taken money from the US immediately before that happened

I agree. The number of posters who'd surrender their community and country so quickly and easily, to a foreign despot, is depressing.😕

Seems like a lot of rich billionaires own Trump. He is clearly a big puppet as Netanyahu and Putin ignore his pleas yet he moves towards satisfying them over his own country.

Genuine question, why would America give money to Morocco?

Mizzeldrizzle · Yesterday 13:36

I don't think a single poster on this thread has said Putin should be allowed to walk over anyone including the op.
What has happened in asking a question some replies have projected what they think they hear and jump straight in .

My personal concern is our defence capabilities when we had a very dramatic resignation over a weak defence budget and what I've heard from people in the army saying we are worryingly weak.

Judicioususeofthewordgirdle · Yesterday 13:37

Yes, of course he’s a threat. That’s not a reason not to tackle him and hide under the covers.

Sanctions.
Supporting Ukraine.
Supporting our NATO allies.

Why don’t you ask a military strategist?

Mizzeldrizzle · Yesterday 13:44

@Judicioususeofthewordgirdle no I mean when he attacks us on our soil what can we do because apparnrly our drones would last a a few hours ?

Military strategists I've listened to have said we are woefully unprepared for any combat and we need urgent money yesterday to get us anywhere near combat ready.
