By which I mean, would most voters support this as opposed to a change in policy to refuse in greater numbers? I honestly can't tell what "the majority" actually wants. I would prefer fewer having seen how things went in Germany thanks to the Merkel wave but I am willing to believe I'm a backwards old boomer and a majority would be more welcoming.

They (UK governments) tend to say they have no choice due to the echr but this isn't true. There are a lot of operational choices they could make (eg sometimes when people are denied entry at the border they are actually allowed into the country for a few days and instructed to report back to the airport when it's time for the removal flight).

I agree we need better background checking.

Anyone who voted for brexit wrecked our ability to do that though. This is the exact reason why people are now spending years on asylum waiting lists.

You do know Germany, France and other EU countries have had similarly horrendous crimes? It’s not Brexit related.

The pp didn’t answer but perhaps you can, if a man commits a horrendous crime in Afghanistan, travels through Europe without claiming and enters the U.K. how would anyone know?

The Taliban won’t hold records, so what then?

They want to be safe, they want to be able to work and integrate, they want to learn English. Many want to stay and bring their wives and children here safely. Many want to leave and join their extended families in other countries. Most really wish they could go back to their country of origin but know they can't and there is a huge amount of grief around that. Mostly they just want to build a life.

Do you think everyone in the world who wants to come here and seek asylum, or to seek a better life, should be able to?

If yes, is there a number that you would say enough is enough, we can’t take anymore, or is it unlimited?

DebbieSavage · 15/08/2026 16:02

You know, I sort of understood when leftists wanted to make the argument that no group of men were inherently more violent/oppressive than any other because on the face of it, I can see the argument that we are all the same no matter where we're from, even if I don't believe it myself.

But...

...to actually make the argument that white British men are MORE of a danger than men from places like Syria, Eritrea and Afghanistan, well that begs the question, what are they doing differently over there that means they respect women more than our own men apparently do? Should we start covering up our flesh? Is that the path we need to go down?

Parts of the UK (a settled country currently at peace) currently have the highest rates of femicide in Western Europe.

You can't compare that effectively with countries currently at war. But you can look at the fact that men statistically are the issue. And at the moment white local men statistically are a significant risk to women in the UK.

I've already said I'm not for unvetted, unlimited migration.

Why? They aren't doing anything wrong by being here. They're exercising their right to seek asylum here.

Everyone has the right to decide where they live and how they live. Everyone, you included, has the right to seek asylum where needed and its only by the grace of God you haven't needed to exercise that right.

The reality is that people have witnessed too many incidents now - either serious ones like rape and murder, or just the petty harrassment and indecent exposure. And thanks to social media like X, people are aware now, including of the similar patterns in Europe.
You clearly have your earnest beliefs, but the public mood has shifted.

Also people don't just have the right to decide where they live. I couldn't just up and go and live in Iceland or Australia because I fancied it, I'd have to follow the immigration rules.
As things stand, we get the people who are happy to break the flaw and flout the rules. It's not a recipe for law-abiding citizens, really, is it?

It is brexit related. Prior to brexit we had data sharing with other countries in the eu. So if an asylum seeker was denied leave to remain in another eu country we knew why that was including if they'd found evidence of violent crimes in their country of origin or while in that Eu country while waiting on refugee status being awarded so they would have been automatically declined in the UK.

Post brexit we don't have access to that information so any asylum seeker who falls into that category can be rejected in the eu and still come here to start a totally fresh claim and the home office need to start from scratch with much more limited data to investigate their circumstances.

They don’t like the culture, it’s not as bad as the country they’ve left but doesn’t hold the same values. They get free housing and benefits,
Clearly time has shown that they do not want to integrate or learn the language, millions is spent on interpreter services in hospitals, police, prison, etc for people who have spent years in the country.

There is no incentive to go to work when the benefits are close to a full time unskilled work.

Only a handful come from war torn countries.
The men are relatively safe in Morocco but it didn’t stop 60,000 taking the shot.

They want to come for economic reasons and that’s it.

I would welcome a boat of women from Afghanistan. I’d help them, offer food and clothing, but it’s not women, it’s self serving men who make it unsafe for women to board the boat, they’d be raped on the crossing. The few that tried learned the hard way.

You need to follow the rules because you are not seeking asylum. If the UK was hit by extreme crisis tomorrow and you were unable to remain here safely then you would need to seek asylum and use the same rights and legal framework to get yourself to safety.

Well you've heard it from a person who allegedly works directly with migrants. Afghani men are safer to be around than British men. Therefore, if we just get rid of all the white British men and replace them with Afghani or Pakistani men, cover our faces and bodies and NEVER go out without a chaperone, we will be safer than ever.

I am already googling my local mosque so I can get ahead of the game and get myself in with a community that will keep me safe from those dastardly evil British men.

Sorry to quote you again. I don’t think Brexit alone wrecked the ability. European countries aren’t doing background checks either. There has been many arrests in Ireland where the person has serious previous convictions in other European countries. No one is checking. Finger print is it.

What records does the Taliban or Sudan, which is in a state of war, share?

Ireland with a tiny population compared to the UK.

This year 2026, femicide as surpassed 2025.
2025 was a terrible year too.

8 women by July 26.

One Irish man.

Femicide in Ireland: Were 85% of women murdered this year killed by foreign migrants?

Oh and here’s me thinking that during my teenage years in Rotherham, in the late 90s, when my friends and I along with at least 1400 other girls endured what we did, we were part of the EU! It’s almost as if it’s everything to do with a certain ‘culture’ and fuck all to do with Brexit.

"They don’t like the culture"
"they do not want to integrate or learn the language"
"There is no incentive to go to work"

How many refugees and asylum seekers do you actually properly know? Because from your posts I'm guessing very few if any.

All of the asylum seekers I know are actively learning English - as is the case for any person learning any new language it's easier for some people than it is for others. The money is spent on interpretors for things like legal appointments and medical appointments. Which is what you'd expect since legal or medical terms are not easy or available quickly to learn and in those circumstances it's crucial people are fully understanding what's being discussed. That's completely different to day to day conversation. I can speak two other languages conversationally but I wouldn't have a clue about medical or legal terms. English is also one of the most complex languages you can learn.

For the many asylums seekers I know, all (bar none) have tried hard to integrate, understand local culture, many go to local churches and Christian holidays with their friends despite being Muslim. All have spent their time waiting on leave to remain volunteering or studying. All bar none have got a minimum wage job and work ridiculous hours as soon as they were allowed to work.

Most of the people abusing women on the journey are the traffickers who are staying in place along the journey. Many men are also raped and put into forced labour.

You know Afghan women would also want to bring their sons and husbands with them? Some may not but why would you expect them to come alone. They'd be vulnerable here in the UK alone as you well know. There's no win for Afghan women in only allowing the women. Women from Afghanistan are reliant on family reunification schemes to get out safely. Which is why its been predominantly making the journeys. This is why our process needs overhauled.

I’m so sorry. I truly am. It’s heartbreaking. 💞

Unfortunately Sex traffickers have increased all over Europe. It’s at an all time high, still ignore as it mainly impacts poorer people.

I get you have your own agenda in this and I've tried to engage with you in good faith and respectfully.

You are clearly determined to miss the points I'm making so this is just a waste of energy.

I think it's quite sad that people are so determined to score points and be 'right' that they can't have proper discussions about social issues any more.
