To ask if you think the prime minister has a democratic duty to house asylum seekers in middle class areas

By which I mean, would most voters support this as opposed to a change in policy to refuse in greater numbers? I honestly can't tell what "the majority" actually wants. I would prefer fewer having seen how things went in Germany thanks to the Merkel wave but I am willing to believe I'm a backwards old boomer and a majority would be more welcoming.

They (UK governments) tend to say they have no choice due to the echr but this isn't true. There are a lot of operational choices they could make (eg sometimes when people are denied entry at the border they are actually allowed into the country for a few days and instructed to report back to the airport when it's time for the removal flight).

If you can't have a debate with someone who has a different opinion to you without stooping to insults then you're not really worth debating with.

Edited

I actually don't see any insults but I see someone getting twitchy at the mention of Pakistani Grooming Gangs. I wonder why ?

Yes, I am a Christian who has lived in Israel.
My experience informs me. Not propaganda.
So I think we need to end this conversation here.

It is not propaganda. The Israel times reports on these incidents. As well as other media sources, video evidence. It is factual whether you choose to ignore it or not.

Fiction. The countries they're coming from are not even developed. They're usually violent and in constant civil war. A country like this isn't conducive to providing advanced education or training.

I wonder how many of these boat people are being sponsored by third parties or are kicked out by their own country. They're not all funding themselves.

SpaceRaccoon · 15/08/2026 15:51

Why do you think the majority of asylum seekers are men? Potentially due to the high levels of sex trafficking, sexual abuse and additional exploitation women and girls face per chance? If you had no choice but to get your family to safety how would you approach it? If you can only afford to send one or two and knowing that females might not make it?

Indeed. So why on earth would I want their abusers here?

It is not illegal to seek asylum. So anyone coming here on a small boat is not doing anything illegal unless they don't make a claim for asylum as soon as possible when they land."

" entering the UK by boat without prior permission, a valid visa, or by bypassing designated port controls is illegal under British immigration law"

They have protection under international law once they claim asylum, but they've still broken UK law, and they are exactly doing something illegal.

Add to that, I suspect the number of actual genuine claimants is a tiny percentage. Some will be looking for economic opportunities, and some are probably fleeing justice because they're criminals.

There seems to be a high incidence of casualty for women and girls on the crossing.

Why would we not be wary of the men involved @Lavender14?

I'm not saying you can't be wary of men. I'm saying that tarring all migrant men with one brush because some are harmful to women is illogical when local white men are statistically more lethal to women in this country. In all the years I've worked with migrant communities and local communities I've never been hurt or made to feel unsafe or uncomfortable by migrant men. I have by white local men fairly regularly though. The double standard around that is what I have a problem with.

There’s no way to know which of those men are responsible for crimes in their own country or on the crossing even.

I don’t see why that’s an acceptable risk.

There are currently only two countries where people can seek asylum in advance of arrival in the UK. So people from other countries quite literally do not have any other means to enter the UK to seek asylum which is their right. That's why asylum seekers are not punished for arriving - it's not illegal.

Spot the pattern.

Literacy Rate by Country 2026

Global literacy stands at 87.74% in 2026. Uzbekistan (100%), North Korea (100%), and Norway (100%) lead with universal literacy, while Mali (35.47%), Chad (30.63%), and South Sudan (26.83%) face the greatest challenges.

I wish she and her ilk would just be honest and say it's because I am beneath her by dint of being part of the dirty 'lower class community'.

It's hard on the Internet because on here we all have to rub shoulders with one another as 'equals' , but in everyday life she can just stick with her own and pretend we don't exist.

So let's lock up all local men too then since we can't tell which ones of them are harmful and which aren't. Given the high rates of dv and femicide in the UK I don't think having them loose is an acceptable risk. Or is it only men who look a certain way that you think should loose their rights? If so, why is that?

Hi lavender. I am interested to know. What do they want? Where do they hope to be housed? Do they want their extended family to come over?

They want to be safe, they want to be able to work and integrate, they want to learn English. Many want to stay and bring their wives and children here safely. Many want to leave and join their extended families in other countries. Most really wish they could go back to their country of origin but know they can't and there is a huge amount of grief around that. Mostly they just want to build a life.

It’s not necessary to add men who have committed horrendous crimes. It’s not oh well you got unlucky let’s carry on anyway.

The government basic duty is to vet who comes in and if they can’t tell who killed women on a crossing even, or crimes elsewhere then it’s not good enough.

You know, I sort of understood when leftists wanted to make the argument that no group of men were inherently more violent/oppressive than any other because on the face of it, I can see the argument that we are all the same no matter where we're from, even if I don't believe it myself.

But...

...to actually make the argument that white British men are MORE of a danger than men from places like Syria, Eritrea and Afghanistan, well that begs the question, what are they doing differently over there that means they respect women more than our own men apparently do? Should we start covering up our flesh? Is that the path we need to go down?

I agree we need better background checking.

Anyone who voted for brexit wrecked our ability to do that though. This is the exact reason why people are now spending years on asylum waiting lists.
