To ask if you think the prime minister has a democratic duty to house asylum seekers in middle class areas

By which I mean, would most voters support this as opposed to a change in policy to refuse in greater numbers? I honestly can't tell what "the majority" actually wants. I would prefer fewer having seen how things went in Germany thanks to the Merkel wave but I am willing to believe I'm a backwards old boomer and a majority would be more welcoming.

They (UK governments) tend to say they have no choice due to the echr but this isn't true. There are a lot of operational choices they could make (eg sometimes when people are denied entry at the border they are actually allowed into the country for a few days and instructed to report back to the airport when it's time for the removal flight).

Oh don't worry. Housing these men in pleasant little villages and hamlets up and down the country is going to make a whole bunch more 'racists' as you would describe them.

You have no idea what you've just done by making sure the entire country gets to see the benefits of having people who are entirely untouchable by order of the state roaming around doing whatever the hell they want to.

But by all means, tell us all why men from third world countries who saunter over on inflatable dinghies have more of a right to live in nicer areas of this country than someone like me who has ancestors dating back for hundreds of years at the very least. That will do so much for cultural cohesion.

  • there are plenty of female asylum seekers
-asylum seekers make up a tiny percentage of overall migration and we take in significantly fewer than other parts of Europe
  • the people most against migrants tend to be those most affected by col and resource pressures because that's how the government and media have manipulated people to avoid taking the heat, so no it will not automatically create more racists.
  • people who are untouchable? Explain please because asylum seekers are expected to observe the law just as anyone else is. Noone is 'untouchable' and asylum seekers have restrictions they are not left to 'roam around doing whatever the hell they want to'
  • I take it you are not informed on the horrific nature of small boat journeys if you'd describe it as a 'saunter' perhaps do some research on that before you use such inappropriate terms.
  • they have as much of a right to live in any particular area of the UK as you or I do. What exactly is stopping you from living somewhere nice other than your own salary? Asylum seekers are not the ones driving up house prices. That's a much much broader and older issue stemming from government policy impact.
  • how many generations of ancestors do you need before people are 'worthy' or 'deserving' of living here? One generation? Hundreds? What if that only applies on one parents side and not the other parents side? You do realise the vast, vast, vast majority of people in the UK will be descended from migrants somewhere along the way?

How ridiculous.

How was this fictional man meant to “stop them” himself? Sail into the channel and start firing missiles at boats?

Alternatively, we as a country could simply tell our politicians to implement sensible, workable, evidence-based policies to address the problem as I have set out above, rather than either having ineffectual politicians who pretend they want to address this but refuse to take obvious measures to do so, or listen to populist looneys suggesting completely unworkable policies that would involve us declaring war on France.

The type of emotive hyperbole you describe in that video is aimed at the easy to manipulate who are incapable of rational thought and considering actual solutions: people who are, therefore, susceptible to extreme ideologies and populist nonsense. You might want to check who produced this material.

The fictional man, is all men, the man in government, the man in a powerful role, the man who gets up every day to work for his family, the man who respects his culture, the brothers, cousins, uncles and fathers.

I am sure that the Christian people in Ukraine, Sudan, Congo, Nigeria, Israel once thought they were safe and not going to forced out, killed or imprisoned.

I am sure that native American and Australian people thought they’d never be taken over.
Women and men need to start making noise across the classes instead of point scoring.

When people do protest or make noise they’re called racist so it stops any action.

One day it will be too late.

What?! Christians have never been "forced out" of Israel. There is a big Christian community in Israel and yes, they are equal citizens under the law.
Get your facts right.

I'm not fine with that happening to me, but I'm also not seeing that happening here or even close. It's perfectly possible to live alongside people who have different cultures even when you're in the minority you know. Plus the British have one of the longest and most extensive histories of doing exactly what you are so against. In many cases contributing to the instability people are now fleeing from.

Maybe people don't want to become a minority culture in their native country? That's a perfectly reasonable position to take.

No-one alive today played a part in UK colonial history, bar possibly a tiny handful of incredibly old people - the current population is not responsible for the sins of the fathers so that's irrelevant.

Get your facts right.

Christian communities are not treated well in Israel.
They face discrimination, assaults and harassment.

It is not exactly a welcoming environment for them.
Maybe you should check up on the facts.

There you go folks, you've got it straight from the horses mouth.

The destruction of a people with a proud legacy well over a thousand years in the making is because you colonised India and I am mad about it.

Brilliant.

No it's not everyone, but also not everyone is an unskilled individual as you claimed.

Also let's just look at criminals here - plenty of skilled professionals have committed horrendous crimes in the UK. Northern Ireland is now the most dangerous place to be female due to the high numbers of women being murdered. The overwhelming majority of perpetrators being white men, from skilled and unskilled backgrounds.

It's unreasonable to look at our current home office system and leave traumatised individuals with limited support, unable to work and limited support around proper integration and not expect some level of crime. Some vulnerable and traumatised individuals will always become violent just as the local ones do. The only difference is that we don't look at white local men and say jesus we should kick the lot of them out/ lock them all up as a precaution because of how dangerous they statistically are.

Given that they launch from France, they could just not, if they're that horrific. They're in no danger in France.
I will agree that they seem to be pretty horrific for any woman who attempts them, that part is true.

they have as much of a right to live in any particular area of the UK as you or I do.

In short, the narrative has shifted, no-one believes this stuff any more.

You quoted another poster, I didn’t claim they were all unskilled.

The issue is we can’t know who is a greater risk. Many are not ok with accepting that risk, especially since women and girls often bear the brunt.

Although I’ll add if people have skills we do have work visas and pathways that are better than smuggling.

So we're supposed to sacrifice ourselves due to the actions of men who lived over a 150 years ago?!

And look up what has happened to other countries who have been colonised by islam. Peaceful, Christian countries like ourselves. We are not going to be living side by side singing kumbaya and sharing recipes. We are going to end up dominated and pushed out into smaller and smaller areas. Some people will leave the UK, others will go north or into the countryside away from the cities and towns. We will lose gradually political representation and power as voices more pushy, insistent and entitled than ours come out fighting. Pockets of resistance will spring up, cause violence and be quashed by the government.

If they're skilled individuals, they can go the legal route and apply for a visa. It's probably cheaper, and certainly safer, than paying a people smuggler.

Kgfs · 15/08/2026 15:05

I feel for him

I do too. However, his plight has nothing to do with asylum seekers. A very small proportion of them work even when their claim is granted: they certainly aren’t competing with UK graduates for jobs.

The difficulties that young people now face obtaining employment are due to a lack of industrial strategy and appropriate trade and economic policy in the UK, extortionate tax rates and onerous expensive regulations meaning businesses are laying off staff and reticent to employ more, global economic issues, and AI making many lower-level roles that used to be done by trainees not economically viable. Business investment into the UK is falling off a cliff, our balance of payments is appalling, we are losing skilled workers due to punitive tax rates which further reduces the incentive for companies to be located here or to expand because they can’t get appropriately skilled workers and those from elsewhere don’t want to relocate here due to our top-heavy tax system penalising anybody earning above average salaries far more than in comparable countries, companies are relocating to the EU and elsewhere still due to the impact of Brexit and our self-imposed trading barriers and us having the highest energy prices in Europe, nowhere near enough money is being spent on the education system and links to businesses to build skills, our infrastructure is crumbling, so companies don’t want to invest here particularly they also have limited access to the European market. It’s not a favourable place for entrepreneurs to start businesses with access to funding and those which are successful are not protected from foreign takeovers and if you sell one the tax is much higher than in many other countries which offer better infrastructure and similar rule of law, stability etc. These are the types of issues that need to be addressed to improve the prospects of young people.

In short, the narrative has shifted, no-one believes this stuff any more.

It is not illegal to seek asylum. So anyone coming here on a small boat is not doing anything illegal unless they don't make a claim for asylum as soon as possible when they land.

Why do you think the majority of asylum seekers are men? Potentially due to the high levels of sex trafficking, sexual abuse and additional exploitation women and girls face per chance? If you had no choice but to get your family to safety how would you approach it? If you can only afford to send one or two and knowing that females might not make it?

People often become seperated along the way because of the nature of the journey so many asylum seekers agree an end destination to try and reunify as a family. Or where they know someone already there to help them build a life from scratch. Also other countries in Europe are much more hostile and I'm not sure you'd fancy living in a refugee camp would you?

"Someone who has arrived here legally and has valid residency has a right to be here, as long as they don't break the law"

So asylum seekers then... glad we cleared that up.

This is not the thread for it. They are treated horrendously in Israel. Spat on, holy buildings vandalised, did you see the video of the nun being beaten on the ground? The Christian family being intimated by settlers, they’re attacking monasteries and historic churches.
If you don’t consider that been forced out. I don’t understand why? Feel free to do some research on the disgusting acts happening in the holy place of Jesus, Jerusalem.

@smallglassbottle Poland are refusing to take people. How?

because they have the political will to do it.
The EU is fining them for not taking their "quota", but to them paying the "fine" is cheaper than having to deal with all the disruptive immigrants who want feeding, clothing, housing, and bringing all their 3rd-world issues into Europe.

Likewise Slovakia, Czech republic, and Hungary.
Interestingly all those countries are strongly Catholic and have a race-memory of atrocities committed against them under the Ottoman Empire (Moslem) and don't want a repeat, as most migrants are Moslem.
Austria and Denmark have also tightened up their borders, as has Italy.

Oh, right, thanks for explaining. It seemed a mystery as to how they're getting away with it. Their economy is doing well I understand. Good luck to them. Good point about the Ottoman empire. Most people don't know what went on, sadly. Handy how we're not taught about this in school.
