That Green voting areas should take more migrants if they are so pro-immigration.

The problem with the policy is that pointy elbowed middle classes are more likely to find ways to block this than less well off / educated areas - just as they are with house building. It will be just more opportunities for the NIMBYS.

That is exactly what is wrong with this country. We don't fix shit, we just spread it around so more people can share in the misery.

It’s pretty much rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic at this stage. The way things are going, and Burnham has given no indication he’s going to do anything to stop the massive influx of young men on boats, everyone is going to be “taking their share” fairly soon anyway.

I mean, I suppose there’s a certain satisfaction in knowing that the middle classes will no longer be totally protected from the consequences which the working class have faced and been demonised for complaining about for so long. But moving “asylum seekers” round the country is really not the answer to the problem, is it?

I have no objection to living near asylum seekers. I have a HUGE problem with ANYONE living near illegal immigrants,. No one should be able to live here illegally. A political party that can not or won’t protect its boarders is not fit to govern.

He specifically said he wanted to put "Detention centres" in the places that voted green. The detention centres in mind were the Reform alternative to the current system so it was a bit weird because presumably people voting Green wouldn't be in favour of those anyway. It's also different to talk about distributing things like that based on voting patterns, than to talk about distributing them fairly/putting them in wealthier areas. Yes you could infer Green voting areas are more likely to be wealthy but it's not the same thing. It would be like a Green government threatening to "punish" areas that vote reform by putting wind turbines there. Rather than saying they would build more wind turbines.

I often think with threads I’d like there to be an indicator system where certain demographics of posters have to br displayed if you wanted to post (so like on MIL threads, it would display if you were a MIL or DIL).

On this thread I’d like it to display

• do you live in a 90% + white area?
• have you every called a working class person racist for complaining about the effects of mass immigration on their community?

You can't apply for asylum outside of the UK.
The way the law works is you first have to come to the UK then, once there, you can submit an asylum application. This either means coming to the UK by plane on a different sort of visa or entering it in an "irregular" fashion (the small boats). Usually people entering in this way will make themselves immediately known to the authorities, at which point they become asylum seekers and their claim is processed. If their claim is successful they then become refugees. While waiting for their claim to be processed they aren't living here illegally. The migrants in the migrant centres/hotels are living where they are told to live.

I don't like the current system, but we chose to make the laws the way they are. People following those laws/that system may be good people or may be awful people. But the term "illegal" isn't a helpful one.
