I want to get Mounjaro for a month, to lose 3/4 stone-1 stone. Am I mad?

I'm post meno, mid-fifties. I train hard in the gym. I try really hard to watch what I eat and i'm really healthy and knowledgeable about food and nutrition. And yet. The weight has crept up. I'm about 3/4 stone heavier than I want to be.

It depresses the hell out of me.

I thought I'd try Mounjaro for a month. Get a reset.

Am I wrong for doing this?

Try it but be prepared for it to take longer. Some people do lose enough weight on low doses, some have to wait months for it to have an effect.

Deadleaves77 · 03/08/2026 10:13

If only using it for a month its unlikely to work

Firstly a stone in a month is a very drastic weightloss assuming your already reasonably slim. Your forcing your body to starve

Secondly if the weight is creeping up and you can't lose it despite excercising heavily and eating healthily then its unlikely you will be able to maintain the weightloss in anyway even if you do manage to lose it that quickly. You havent made any actual changes you've just crash dieted

fuckeditupbadly · 03/08/2026 10:15

Its a tool. Its very helpful. Its not a moral issue any more than taking paracetamol for a mild headache would be. The scare mongering about side effects has mostly blown over. Leaving aside issues of eligibility and getting it privateky prescribed, its your choice and your business. The only thing i would caution is getting it from an under the counter beauty provision that may not be legit.

Another goady Mounjaro post, seem to be daily lately

Ineedanewsofa · 03/08/2026 10:16

Not sure if the UK prescribing criteria has changed much but if you’re not BMI 25 you’ll struggle to get from a legit source, at which point you’re effectively injecting god knows what bought under the counter from a salon/some dude at the gym. You might be fine but you might not.

It works pretty much instantly for me. I had a break recently, have gone back on and the suppression is straight back. For me the lower dose is much more effective than the higher. There is no one correct truth here, just individual experiences.

itsquietinside · 03/08/2026 10:19

I lost a roughly stone in a month on it, and then another stone over the next two months from 11 to 9. I stopped then in January and have maintained since. Maintaining has been easy in comparison to years of trying to eat under the calories I was using each day. I feel like I can eat so much! I do weight train 3 times a week which helps. I look fit and well and have visible muscle tone. It’s the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. If you can get it do it! I went through Voy at a starting BMI of 27 and no health conditions. I’m now BMI 22.

MyPlumHelper · 03/08/2026 10:19

I always thought it wasn't for a short term use. Doesn't the hunger just come back very badly if you just stop taking it?

itsquietinside · 03/08/2026 10:19

To add I stated on 2.5 mostly, but did try 5 for a couple of weeks but the suppression was too strong so went back to 2.5

kookieCrumbles · 03/08/2026 10:20

Why not just do a VLCD eg new you diet? You’d drop a stone in 1-2 months.

I'm not being goady, FFS. I'm asking a question.

If you’re less than a stone overweight, you don’t even fit the BMI criteria for WLI. And you won’t lost 3/4 stone in 1 month.

I’ve been using Mounjaro for 18months. Lost over 5 stone over about 14 months and am on a maintenance dose now. I lost an average of 4/5lbs most months and sometimes no weight loss at all, it just depends how your body responds.

Using it for a month is not going to ‘reset’ anything, and you’ll most likely put the weight back on as soon as you come off it.

SilenceInside · 03/08/2026 10:24

Where are you going to get a prescription for Mounjaro from if you are not overweight by BMI?

You mean a crash diet? Doesn’t the weight go back on as quickly as it comes off?

I just feel so depressed by all my hard, hard work and no results

I'm probably teetering on the edge BMI wise right now

If you fit the prescribing criteria and want to try, go for it. It is possible you might lose up to a stone or so, aa you are at least 3 or 4 stone overweight.

Would I recommend taking MJ to support your weight loss journey? Yes, absolutely!

Would I recommend taking it for one month only? No. You will probably be disappointed once you stop taking it and the support it gives wains. Or, you might not respond immediately, so have no real effect.

Edit. I may have misread in the OP 3/4 stone overweight. Are you 0.75 stone overweight, or 3 to 4?

She's not 3-4 stone overweight, she meant a quarter of a stone to a stone

InfoSecInTheCity · 03/08/2026 10:34

I’m reading this as you being 3 quarters of a stone over where you want to be, rather than 3 - 4 stone overweight. You mention teetering on the edge of healthy BMI. You won’t meet any prescribing criteria so your only option will be to buy from an unregulated seller. That alone would be enough for me to say this isn’t a great idea.

Other than that, it may very well help you to lose what you need in a short time but some people don’t lose much in the first 4 weeks because that’s the ‘getting your body used to it’ phase, it’s also not very long to re-train yourself into better long term habits and if you don’t form those then it’s unlikely to do much more than provide a temporary loss that you then put back on when you stop.

ZaraCC · 03/08/2026 10:35

Take it and it will definitely help. It is not just appetite suppression, it helps lose the weight that is so hard to get off as you get older. Only thing is, you will probably want to stay on it which is fine if you can afford that. Maybe stay on a micro dose.

Perhaps, which is why I'd edited. I don't know how short someone must be that 0.75 of a stone has you teetering on the edge of Obese (or Overweight with some prescribers) BMI, which is the criteria, as no other applicable factors have been mentioned.

SilenceInside · 03/08/2026 10:38

It's not "wrong" assuming you aren't going to acquire medication from black market sources, or lie to access it fraudulently.

If there are clinics that will prescribe legitimately to you at your current weight, you can afford it, you are aware of the risks and have a plan for what to do when you stop so that you don't end up back at the same position, then it's just a decision making process for you.

I don't think that using Mounjaro for a month will "reset" anything though, once you stop taking it. As with any medication, when you stop taking it, it stops working.

MyDarlingRose · 03/08/2026 10:39

You won’t lose that much in a single month straight away. It took me around 2m to lose a stone. The large drops are often not people only a little overweight.

Normalized · 03/08/2026 10:41

3 months is more realistic, but go for it. Mounjaro really is the miracle drug it's touted to be (though it doesn't work for everyone).

I lost a stone a month for the first 2 months, plus another stone by the fourth month. It's really not unusual. It then slowed and took me a year to lose the full 100lb to my goal.
