I want to get Mounjaro for a month, to lose 3/4 stone-1 stone. Am I mad?

I'm post meno, mid-fifties. I train hard in the gym. I try really hard to watch what I eat and i'm really healthy and knowledgeable about food and nutrition. And yet. The weight has crept up. I'm about 3/4 stone heavier than I want to be.

It depresses the hell out of me.

I thought I'd try Mounjaro for a month. Get a reset.

Am I wrong for doing this?

I used it for 2 months and I was very happy with the result. Reached target weight and have maintained. Am also doing more exercise than before. If you’re eligible I’d say go for it.

AelinAG · 03/08/2026 10:45

Definitely do it but I’d commit to three months.

MargoLivebetter · 03/08/2026 10:46

You're not mad but I don't think wanting to lose 1 stone in a month is a good idea at all.

If you have qualifying conditions, you can get MJ with some suppliers with a BMI over 25.

Floratheexplorer57 · 03/08/2026 10:46

Try the Human Being Diet - the first sixteen days are very do-able and most people usually lose quite a bit of weight and you may even develop some new good eating habits. The book is worth reading anyway because it explains about how blood sugar impacts hunger/energy levels/sleep/weight gain/bloating etc. There is a thread on here about it somewhere.

FormerFatty · 03/08/2026 10:49

Go for it. I lost 4lb a week, from when I started.

FlorenceLawrence · 03/08/2026 10:50

I wouldn't object to anyone trying MJ - I'm on it and it's changed my life. It's a fantastic tool for weight loss.
But it's a long-term treatment. Yes, you might lose a stone in the first month (I did!) but coming off it again after just one month means you are highly likely to put the weight back on pretty quickly.
I don't think it'll be the 'reset' you're looking for after one month - people often find their appetite comes back with vengeance when they stop. Tapering the dose off can be more helpful, but you will be on the lowest dose anyway.

flippinnorastights · 03/08/2026 10:54

Go for it. I did one month, lost 8lb and I’ve lost another 4lb since. Totally reset my eating habits

thenightsky · 03/08/2026 10:55

I thought of doing this too OP. But the shortest sign up at BMI 25 I could find was 3 months with Voy. In the end I didn't do it as it was just too expensive for me.

RoseField1 · 03/08/2026 10:56

Budget for 3 months and try it, it's likely to work. It's a lot of money to lose a stone only though.

MimiEva · 03/08/2026 11:00

It’s not a bad idea to try it. You’ll have to say you are shorter than you are, to get it.

Lifejigsaw · 03/08/2026 11:07

How are you planning on getting around the eligibility requirements?

Clarabell77 · 03/08/2026 11:08

LionsManeforthebrain · 03/08/2026 10:25

I just feel so depressed by all my hard, hard work and no results

Being depressed about 10lbs is a bit much. Are you sure you even need to lose this amount of weight and you’re not just setting on a particular weight because you feel it’s what you should be? If you are lifting weights then size-wise you could be smaller but weight wise bigger because of the muscle density. I’ve dropped a dress size before but stayed pretty much the same weight due to weigh lifting.

Also look into set point weight. You might have hit yours and you can reduce it but I don’t think the mounjaro idea will work, it’s more about slow and consistent changes.

Which is quite a bad idea really..

NewGoldFox · 03/08/2026 11:09

I would think it would be a very temporary fix. As soon as I stop taking it the weight starts creeping back on…

How is it utter crap?

Losing 10lbs - 1 stone in one month would be considered drastic weight loss if that’s the total amount of weight someone needs to lose. It would still be a significant loss for someone who has a lot of weight to lose.

And it’s very well known that maintenance post-mounjaro is difficult - most people need to keep taking a “maintenance dose” and come off it slowly for that very reason - and are advised to by the prescribers (medical experts).

So what part of the comment is utter crap?

It works pretty much instantly for me. I had a break recently, have gone back on and the suppression is straight back. For me the lower dose is much more effective than the higher. There is no one correct truth here, just individual experiences.

It will work to lose weight, but not long term is what I meant. Yes OP may lose a stone but after only being on it for a month once she stops she'll just put it straight back on again.

Im sure you can maintain weight loss with mounjaro but its unlikely that a month is enough to do this, and dropping a stone in a month when your BMI is 25 is never healthy, even if you did it without feeling hungry.

OttersOnAPlane · 03/08/2026 11:22

With such a small amount to lose, the 2.5 dose (which is lower than the therapeutic dose) is unlikely to help you lose 10lbs in a month. That is more common in those with a lot to lose, where a smaller level of appetite suppression has a more noticeable result in terms of numbers (but not in visible effects).

If you qualify for the treatment, you will be more than 10lbs overweight. And if you do qualify, very best of luck. For many people it's transformative.

BalakayAARon · 03/08/2026 10:44

I lost a stone a month for the first 2 months, plus another stone by the fourth month. It's really not unusual. It then slowed and took me a year to lose the full 100lb to my goal.

Similar for me, but the speed of loss is every different for those of us with over 100 pounds to lose, compared to the OP who is talking about 10-14 lbs. 19 stone to 18 stone in a month is very different to 11 stone to 10 stone in the same time period.

LionsManeforthebrain · 03/08/2026 10:25

I'm probably teetering on the edge BMI wise right now

If your BMI is high enough, go and talk to your local pharmacist. They almost certainly can prescribe. Mine work hand-in-glove with the local surgery and are very supportive and give great care and advice. Hopefully yours will be the same. I know a couple of people who have used MJ short term to get them over a plateau that sounds similar to yours. But your BMI will have to be high enough.

'Being depressed about 10lbs is a bit much."

A bit much for who? With all due respect, I don't think it's anyone else's right to tell me what to feel depressed about. You're not in my head, you don't have my feelings or self-image.

OneKhakiFish · 03/08/2026 11:37

You'd be better off asking in "Weight loss injections/treatments" as I'm sure others must have done it

BalakayAARon · 03/08/2026 11:38

@LionsManeforthebrain Can you please clarify how much weight you have to lose in total, or your BMI? Your post isn't clear if it is 0.75 stone or 3 to 4 stone. I read it as the latter, and that you were looking for a 1 stone kick-start on MJ.

MeridaBrave · 03/08/2026 11:38

I mean ok but I wouldn’t bother unless you can afford to take long term otherwise surely you’ll just gain the weight back. I don’t think it’s worth it for a month as that’s short enough for a dose of willpower.

Davros · 03/08/2026 11:39

It took a year before I lost any weight 😢 but I did start on a low dose and increase slowly under the supervision of an NHS Bariatric consultant. Another year later and I’ve lost nearly 4 stone. My issue has been long term steroids, no “food noise” to overcome, just a fucked metabolism. What I’m saying is, be warned, if you can even get them, its very likely won’t happen the way you hope
