I want to get Mounjaro for a month, to lose 3/4 stone-1 stone. Am I mad?

I'm post meno, mid-fifties. I train hard in the gym. I try really hard to watch what I eat and i'm really healthy and knowledgeable about food and nutrition. And yet. The weight has crept up. I'm about 3/4 stone heavier than I want to be.

It depresses the hell out of me.

I thought I'd try Mounjaro for a month. Get a reset.

Am I wrong for doing this?

Similar for me, but the speed of loss is every different for those of us with over 100 pounds to lose, compared to the OP who is talking about 10-14 lbs. 19 stone to 18 stone in a month is very different to 11 stone to 10 stone in the same time period.

This, I lost big amounts weekly when I had 100+ lbs to lose, once I was into the final stone it was almost unbearably slow. The tolerance between eating too many calories and eating at a deficit is tiny and your body is less keen on shedding the surplus’s its holding on to.

MrsPepperpotty · 03/08/2026 11:53

You can give it a try OP, but bear in mind that you have to start on 2.5mg and go up in 2.5mg stages. Some people respond to the low doses but a lot of people don't see much difference until the higher doses. So you might need to be on it for a few months.

mjloser2026 · 03/08/2026 12:50

I am/was about a 1-1.5 stone overweight (over top of 25 BMI weight, giving me a BMI of about 26.5) and have been on and off for about 10 years. To lose a few pounds took monumental discipline and about 1200-1300 calories a day. It was almost impossible on willpower alone. Weekends caught me out all the time. I started Mounjaro in June and have lost 10lbs on 2.5mg over 10 weeks (with a holiday in the middle), not increased my dose and now on third pen. It makes it so much easier to eat fewer calories. I can now easily have 1000 calories and hardly feel hungry, as opposed to trying to eat my arm off on 1300 calories without mounjaro. Side effects were mild nausea for a couple of weeks and constipation, which I have to be wary of all the time and eat plenty of fibre for. I cut an inch off my height and added half a stone to my weight to make sure I'd get it, although I think i could have kept my data accurate for some providers. Why not try it and forget the trial by other people?

slimming world, sp days a lot... much safer and cheaper and more enjoyable.

I always thought it wasn't for a short term use. Doesn't the hunger just come back very badly if you just stop taking it?

No

Nothing not enjoyable about MJ?

Your post resonates with me but I do think 1 month is too short and 3 months would be more realistic

I’m 47 and think I’m perimenopausal however my only symptoms are not being able to lose weight despite healthy eating, smaller meals/portions and exercise/gym visits

My BMI is 26.2 currently (161 cm height & around 67 kg

I would love to get to 60kgs and I feel that WLI could help me drop 5-10kg and at least if I can hit that target I’d be able to do what it takes to maintain

@LionsManeforthebrain Can you please clarify how much weight you have to lose in total, or your BMI? Your post isn't clear if it is 0.75 stone or 3 to 4 stone. I read it as the latter, and that you were looking for a 1 stone kick-start on MJ.

I have about 1 stone to lose. My BMI is probably around 25

It's so hard to convey how dispiriting it is when you take responsibility for yourself, do everything right and still end up feeling overweight and unhappy. And regardless of BMI, i look much heavier than I used to.

I know post meno makes it really hard. I just want a kick start. I have the willpower for the long term.

Anyway, thanks to everyone for your thoughts, I'll mull it over.

MJ isn’t for people who want to loose a stone to get holiday ready. They are for people with chronic obesity

wishingonastar101 · 03/08/2026 13:52

I would say a lot of weight gain is due to modern food and sedentary lifestyle - cheap, easy food was a fix to hunter gathering. to compensate for this easy fix we now have a new easy fix to loose the weight again. It's evolution invented to make people rich.

I wonder when the jabs will be cheaper than healthy food?

TeenLifeMum · 03/08/2026 13:55

I’m an advocate for mj but I don’t lose at 2.5 so first month me feels frustrating. I’m expecting 3 months to lose 1 stone.

Sefal · 03/08/2026 13:59

I’ve been on it a month and lost 13lbs so I’d say go for it, I’m now a healthy BMI, so I didn’t start out as massive x

Sartre · 03/08/2026 14:00

BalakayAARon · 03/08/2026 10:44

I lost a stone a month for the first 2 months, plus another stone by the fourth month. It's really not unusual. It then slowed and took me a year to lose the full 100lb to my goal.

If you needed to lose 100lbs you were very big to begin with. OP has said her BMI is likely close to or just about 25 so upper limit of normal but not really overweight.

The only way you’d be prescribed it is if you lie and say you’re fatter than you are. I don’t agree with this crazy fad. The people I know on it can’t eat, food makes them feel ill. Everyone on here really loves it but to me it’s the same as atkins or cabbage soup.

Yes to this. Everyone is abusing a drug designed to help the obese.

Not true. I was prescribed at BMI 26, so only ‘overweight’. Lots of prescribers will do it off label for lower BMI’s - medexpress, Voy etc.

SilenceInside · 03/08/2026 14:05

@Sefal if the OP isn't quite BMI 25 (or equivalent for specific ethnicities) then the only legitimate option are the "microdosing" clinics who charge a lot of money to prescribe you a tiny dose of medication.

With a BMI of 25 then there are a couple of the weight loss pharmacies as you say who might prescribe, but even they may decline after a video consult.

toomanycoffeecups · 03/08/2026 14:12

If you can get it prescribed by one of the online pharmacies then by all means give it a whirl . I think it’s miraculous. I lost 8 stone n 2024/25. I maintain my size 8 frame on 7.5mg. (I was a 22/24) . However , as you can see from my maintenance dose .. some of us have to take quite a high dose to lose anything. I really didn’t lose anything until 10mg. That a month each on 2.5, 5, and 7.5. Literally not a kilo lost for first 3 1/2 months.
So many stories on here of people who have lost half their body weight on 2.5mg.. but be aware this is NOT the norm. 2.5 is only a therapeutic dose to see if your body tolerates the drug. . Good luck but you might want to be on it longer .

Strangesally20 · 03/08/2026 14:24

Well I done exactly that about a year ago, I had about 2 stone to lose and just wanted mounjaro for a month to kick start my motivation, I lost just under a stone in the first month then lost the rest myself over a few months. Kept it off no problem. I’ve recently put about a stone on after a few holidays and a house renovation meaning relying on take away more than normal, I’ve got another month supply to do the same again, I don’t intend to be on it longer than a month and I know I will need to do the work myself but I feel it gives me motivation to keep going.

People with much higher BMIs always lose faster at first.OP is barely overweight.

It’s definitely worth a go, I’ve lost 13lbs on 2.5mg, I’m moving up to 5mg (I want to lose another stone), I’m hopeful I won’t need to go any higher than that x

I was barely overweight (BMI 26) and I’ve lost almost a stone on the lowest dose in 4 weeks.

"I'm about 3/4 stone heavier than I want to be." I had read this in the OP as 3 or 4 stone, and that she wanted a stone off as a kick-start. I had even said as much and asked for clarity.

However, what you quoted wasn't to OP, as I was responding to a now edited PP, who said that she couldn't lose 1 stone in a month. With what could be read as up to 4 stone to lose, I was responding that it was possible. I see that StrangeSally confirmed she'd done so with only 2 stone to lose.

OP confirmed after I wrote that she only needed to lose a stone and her BMI of almost 25. I would have thought it would be incredibly difficult to get prescribed with a starting healthy weight.

Also, I'm well aware that I had a lot to lose, thanks for letting me know. Aren't you a 🍑 peach?

If you had that much to lose then you were much larger than the OP. Which was what I said - those with a lot to lose, lose it quickly. Those with less to lose it’s more slow.

Any idea what they charge for micro dosing
