WHat's your particular issue? You 'diet' but don't lose weight, or you can't stick to a healthy eating/reduced calorie diet?
I'm similar to you in that I'm 50 something, active and a stone heavier than I'd like to be. In my case I almost certainly eat too much, drink too much, snack too much. My TDEE is well over 2000 calories a day, so I should lose weight on 16-1800 calories a day, but I have trouble sticking to it consistently and sometimes I eat so much, I'm surprised I'm not a lot heavier.
I've told myself I will lose weight over the next few weeks or I'll likely get WLI. But you definitely aren't BU to give it a try because if you're like me, maintaining weight feels doable, but actually losing it doesn't. So if you lost the weight, you could maintain it.
Anyway, after seeing a recommendation on here, I've bought this book:
Filling Meals: 100 simple hunger-busting recipes for sustainable weight loss - The Sunday Times Bestseller: Amazon.co.uk: Wilson, Lindsay: 9781529982282: Books
All the recipes are aimed at people like us and if you eat the recommended breakfasts and lunches, and a normal dinner with little/no snacking, you should be eating around 1500-2000 calories a day and lose weight. The stories in the book certainly are inspirational.
Good luck whatever you decide. I think a lot of the 'just eat less to lose a few pounds' people are quite often a lot younger than us and/or the types of people who aren't particularly interested in food, drinks, snacks etc and could quite easily mainly eat small portions of 'protein and veg' without feeling like they're missing out on life.
