It’s a hen party one. Annoyed my DSis

Lau226 · Today 20:03

DSis is 7 years younger than me and I’ve agreed to go on her abroad hen weekend next month. Every detail has been planned by her MoH and there’s an in depth itinerary.

Last night, MoH put a message in the group to say for 2 of the events (a meal and a beach club) there will be consistent outfits required, one of these will be swimwear.

She is ordering the swimwear and put a poll in the group to ask people to record their size.

I take issue with this because 1. The swimwear in question is a thong bikini and 2. I find it embarrassing to share my size in front of the group (I am larger than them all, which is why I mentioned the age gap).

I privately messaged MoH to say I’ll bring my own swimwear which will also be white so it matches.

Dsis called me an hour later (she’s not in the group) - she said that I should just wear it for the photo at the start and then change straight out of it l, that she wants me to get involved and she’d be gutted if I’m not in any photos and not matching. I shared why I’m reluctant but she’s having none of it.

Am I being awkward here? I feel like it’s a lot to expect. Before anyone suggests it, I can’t cancel and I will be going on the hen, she’s my sister and it’s paid for.

Just do it for the photo and then change or get a sarong on. Mumsnet will tell you absolutly not and a thong is disgusting etc but real life will tell you to do it for the sake of a photo, push yourself out of your comfort zone and get yourself some good karma

Grow up. No one with any self respect needs to push themselves out of their comfort zone on SM for someone else's validation of their hen party.
"Good karma?" Get a fuckin grip.

Greenleavesandsunshine · Today 21:43

A behind bum photo! If a male friend was insisting on this the word abuse would be used.
No way on Gods green earth would I agree to this and would probably be quite abrupt with anyone who suggested yet alone insisted.

PollyBell · Today 21:43

No way would I agree to this it is ridiculous

Rightsraptor · Today 21:44

That bloody photo will be around for years to torture you for years, so I can't understand the idea of 'just' wearing the cheese wire bikini for the photo. My sympathies but I have no advice, being to old thank God to be of the age when these tortures were invented.

FFS, no

What has age got to do with size?

Got some bad news for this guy 😬

Urgh why the hell would they want a picture "from behind"?!

Tacky, classless? Does sound grim but otherwise why not just have everyone in white swimwear?

Absolutely not. I don't believe in karma, and even if I did I doubt wearing a thong bikini has anything to do with it.

AnonyMumAuDHD · Today 21:48

There is no circumstance and no person on this earth that could induce me to wear a thong bikini. Absolute no from me, whether I were 18 or 80.

"Sorry sis, but I will absolutely NOT be wearing a thong bikini, and that is non negotiable. I am happy to not be in the photos"

@Lau226 or do as a pp suggested and order the wrong size and then say it is too small so you are happy to miss the photo shoot or wear your usual costume with a sarong over it.

I am a very very big people pleaser and this would be a very hard no from me.
Even for one photo would be a no, I wouldn’t want anyone to have a photo of my arse in a thong!

I know it’s hard when everyone is on at you but I would definitely stand firm on this. There is plenty of other photos you can be in fully dressed in to show your attendance.

This ^
and I feel for you OP - these demands are so ridiculous whatever size you are and no way these thong swimwear will make your sister’s marriage happier but clearly she can’t think straight.

UncharteredWaters · Today 21:50

I could be a size 8 tiny tan tastic beach body and I still wouldn’t be wearing a thong bikini for anyone, let alone social media!!

Nonunifiedworkerworking · Today 21:52

no.

Cornishclio · Today 21:54

No they can’t make you.

PyongyangKipperbang · Today 21:55

Very good point about SM. I would not be virtually naked for my OWN SM so no way in hell would I be doing it for someone elses, especially when I would have no control over who is sharing it!

For that reason alone it would be a hard no. If she keeps pushing just say "I dont want to be on social media in a bikini, I am not doing it"

Whynottryagain · Today 21:55

I wouldn't wear a thong bikini. I find thongs super uncomfortable. I also wouldn't buy something to wear for one photo - so wasteful.

RampantIvy · Today 21:56

Why do people allow themselves to be guilt tripped into doing something they feel very uncomfortable doing?

I don't get asked to do stuff like this. Maybe it is because people know that when I say no I mean it.

Pinkchickenwine · Today 21:56

I will not be dictated to when ive paid to go away! I will not dress up as if I’ve got a uniform that everyone has to wear!

ForeverNowWithin · Today 21:58

I've seen this latest thing of all the girls on an already expensive and extravagant hen do now expected to have colour co-ordinated or matching outfits and the bride has a special hen outfit as well.

It's absolutely fucking ridiculous the lengths people are expected to go to for weddings these days, just to make it look like something special on instagram. I'd refuse to buy into this bollocks. I either go and I wear my own swimsuit and my own clothes thank you very much, or I don't go at all. No way on God's earth am I lining up next a bunch of women all slimmer than me, in a thong that I never in a million years would have chosen for myself, so that I can be plastered all over social media without my blessing.

Honestly, where is all this going to end?

FriendlyMedusa · Today 21:59

This actually sounds like a stress dream.

Hopefully you'll wake up in 30-60 minutes and find that your sister isn't really completely mental.

Failing that, er... Offer to be the photo-taker?

RampantIvy · Today 22:00

Honestly, where is all this going to end?

When the sheep hens kick back and say no.

ChelseaFox · Today 22:00

Ask your sister why it’s so important to her for you to have your bottom on show during her hen do.

Sassylovesbooks · Today 22:05

I think your sister is being unreasonable. She wants you wearing something that makes you feel uncomfortable, you dislike and you don't feel flatters you. The photo opportunity is more important to her, than your feelings. Your sister is treating her hens as props, rather than the friends/family they actually are.

Expecting people to buy particular outfits for a hen weekend, is a bloody cheek in my opinion. If people want to do that, and can afford to do so, that's their choice but it should be optional.

You have made a compromise OP, and you should stick to it.

This.
it’s just a firm no.
