AIBU to feel awkward about my cleaner's very revealing work outfit?

My cleaner wears what i'd describe as an extremely skimpy gym outfit. I'm not sure of the exact name of clothes like this but hopefully you can imagine what I mean. It leaves basically nothing to the imagination - basically painted on fabric, and not much of it.

I get it (especially in these temperatures) - sweaty manual work, wear what your comfortable in, it's current fashion for people in their early 20s, want to show off body, whatever.

But I can't help but feel its a little inappropriate and awkward, especially when husband and other males are around in the house.
I don't want to make it a thing but AIBU? Would you say anything?

I'd guess the weather is a big factor here in terms of how your cleaner has been dressing, but it's also possible that he has somewhere else to be before or after his shifts that necessitate that kind of outfit. Or possibly he can't afford separate clothes for work vs what he wears in general.

Are the cleaner, your husband and the random other males all getting naked in the same room?

I’m just grateful my cleaners show up in this hot weather, even if they did bring 3 dc this week. With dh working from home, three primary age dc, our own teens (x3) and 2 cleaners was a lot of people in our house. Dd1 entertained them in the garden but I’m hoping that was a one off.

I wear gymwear often, but you can get looser fitting sweat wicking stuff. I only wanted to post this because lots of people have said they feel nervous about going to the gym because they don't want to wear tight things, and all the adverts they see show things they'd e uncomfortable in. For those of you saying that's obvious, we know, that's fine, but for anyone thinking you can't get modern, sweatwicking gymwear that will keep you cool, there's lots, and everyone should be able to choose something they're comfortable with and it's fine to have different styles.

If a gym outfit makes the men in your house feel uncomfortable, then you have an issue with the men in your house. Do they experience this discomfort on the beach? Or in the gym? Or anywhere else where a woman might wear tight or revealing clothing? Or is it just a case of sticking a pair of marigolds on her that causes them to be uncomfortable? Or, as I suspect is the case, you’re worrying that your husband and sons might be a little too comfortable with her outfit and she’s either going to ruin your marriage or corrupt your sons?

It’s boiling hot and she’s scrubbing your toilets because you and the men in your house can’t be bothered to do it yourselves. Does it really matter what she’s wearing?

No it’s not awkward to wear gym wear. Who feels awkward? If your DH and other males in the house feel awkward tell them to stop looking at the cleaner inappropriately or if it’s you that feels awkward, why?

I have had to ask employees to cover up, as no matter what you think, your eyes are naturally drawn to body parts, I don't want to see someone's t*ts hanging out. For those interested I can send you the link to psychology sites.

You pay her, presumably she's self employed, there are potential issues if she is a direct employee and then it'll come down to contractual law) it's your home, you can ask her to wear appropriate clothing.

What you do and don't want to see doesn't need to be referenced with 'psychology sites'. This woman is highly unlikely to be the OP's employee. Unless she and her husband and the 'other males' are actually following the cleaner from room to room, it's unclear why they would catch more than a glimpse of her anyway. If I'm at home when our cleaner comes on a weekday morning, I'm in my home office working, DH ditto-- she might put her head around the door to say hello, but that's about it unless we make a point of going into whichever room she's in.

My boss would have sent me home if I had turn up in some of the outfits worn by the preschool teachers. Nothing inappropriate or wrong, but unprofessional in MY corporate environmemt

If my cleaner was wearing a lace push up bra and nothing else, I would raise an eyebrow.

If she was wearing normal gym wear, I would just think she's too hot. If I was thinking anything.

If it's ok for me to wear that, why would a cleaner not be allowed when she's cleaning?

Going against the grain, but I think it's unprofessional to wear skimpy clothing in a work situation. Nothing to do with men's roving eyes or whatever. Shorts and a t-shirt or vest top is fine, but gym clothes are suitable only for the gym or one's own home.

The problem is g what she’s wearing nor that she may attract the attention of the males in the household wearing it.

Thats that you have a problem with what she’s wearing and you have an insecurity around people noticing her body.

she is appropriately casually dressed not meeting clients or in court she isn't in a professional role snd is doing manual sweating in a hot climate so gym gear is v v v appropriate to be wearing

shes young so wearing the fashion of youth which is shaped to the buttocks

Next time, include a dress code in your specification, with a line drawing of example clothing. A rubber boiler suit with integral feet and hands would be both modest and practical, with a burqa-style headpiece.
