AIBU to feel awkward about my cleaner's very revealing work outfit?

My cleaner wears what i'd describe as an extremely skimpy gym outfit. I'm not sure of the exact name of clothes like this but hopefully you can imagine what I mean. It leaves basically nothing to the imagination - basically painted on fabric, and not much of it.

I get it (especially in these temperatures) - sweaty manual work, wear what your comfortable in, it's current fashion for people in their early 20s, want to show off body, whatever.

But I can't help but feel its a little inappropriate and awkward, especially when husband and other males are around in the house.
I don't want to make it a thing but AIBU? Would you say anything?

I just don't get it.
You're in a womens changing room at a swimming pool. It's not awkward, right? Now imagine that changing room is 50/50 men and women. It could be more awkward, right?
Anyway I think i'll leave it there, some of these responses are plain wierd.

So, is the problem that your husband and "other males" ( his friends?) have told you that they find it embarrassing or what?

Onmytod24 · 24/07/2026 16:18

You employ her what she’s wearing is appropriate for a hym but not for the job she’s doing tell her

But it's not a changing room, and noones unnclothed.

If I get my genitals out in public. It's going to make pretty much everyone uncomfortable, men, women children. Maybe fair enough then that you'd worry about your familys discomfort. But this isn't that situation.

In this situation, everyones got their clothes on, but a woman is wearing less clothes than you'd like. It's made you feel uncomfortable, but you've ignored that and decided to focus on the entirely mythical discomfort of the men in your household instead. You're putting the blame for your feelings on them, instead of your own hangups.

Urm, is the cleaner actually naked?

Because I get dressed into my skimpy gym/swimwear in the changing room, and then walk into the mixed sex gym or pool wearing it and it’s not awkward at all? Sometimes I go to the shops on the way home (admittedly not in the swimwear 🤣) and hadn’t at all considered i was making it awkward for other people by just existing in my clothes.

Now if your cleaner is getting naked and getting changed in front of your husband, I agree that’s wildly inappropriate.

Defoncforthis · 24/07/2026 16:21

When you employed her how did she dress? Was it different to what she's wearing now? I do think a lot of the new gym wear younger women wear is made for the male gaze. Perhaps get a less sexy cleaner moving forwards 😏

CalamityLane · 24/07/2026 16:22

Classic...

Speak to the woman when it is the man's issue. Maybe speak to your husband/sons etc.

Weeellokthen · 24/07/2026 16:23

MeridaBrave · 24/07/2026 15:45

If you are worried about your husband assaulting her you have bigger problems. I would tell your husband not to ogle and say nothing to the cleaner

Ffs🙄

The bit where she says the cleaner should dress differently because her "husband and other males are in the house"

Yeah but where did she state her husband was "watching" the cleaner?

I use the private cubicles, I don't parade naked around strangers male or female, but you do you..

You still lost me as "especially when husband and other males are around in the house."

hugasaurus · 24/07/2026 14:59

My husband is able to be around women in gym gear without molesting them, cheating on me, ogling them, whatever else. What part is actually bothering you? I don’t really see how it matters.

One day you will.

Weeellokthen · 24/07/2026 16:26

I read it more that she was WORRIED the husband could see! Not that the guy was actually doing anything

care to elaborate? I really don't know what you mean by "one day you will"

You will what?

Why is it her fault that there are perverts where she is working?

Presumably you mean OP given that she’s clearly been paying a lot of attention?

nocoolnamesleft · 24/07/2026 16:29

Tell the “males” that if their eyes cause them to sin, they should pluck them out. That’s the traditional approach.

SpottyAlpaca · 24/07/2026 16:31

Tell her that you will be requiring her to wear a burqa in future, OP, so she does inflame the urges of any males in the vicinity. 🙄

pimplebum · 24/07/2026 16:37

ofcolitas · 24/07/2026 15:09

YANBU women shouldn't have their tits hanging out of their clothes or their arse cheeks visible when they're working, it's inappropriate.

At no point did the OP say this was the situation

everything is covered just in tight fitting fabric

We caught our cleaner stripped to her bra and shorts once , i came in when we am usually out and she was hoovering with ear buds in so did not hear us approaching
she jumped and apologised, I apologised for starling her and said carry on , please help yourself to a cold drink its very hot. And i dont mind if you want to cancell or come earlier / later so its cooler for you

my husband. Spun around and left the room his only concern was for her wellbeing in the heat

normal healthy men can cope with a bit of tight clothing or accidental bra visions

MyDarlingRose · 24/07/2026 16:37

She’s just hot and doing a physical job. Tell the males not to be perverts and look away.

MyPantsAreFartCentral · 24/07/2026 16:37

Calm down, people! Some of these comments are just bizarre 😂
So the OP's husband is a leering pervert who can't wait to assault the scantily clad cleaner? Flipping heck!

DyslexicPoster · 24/07/2026 16:39

seventeenofsumday · 24/07/2026 15:29

Come on, a bikini top is inappropriate to go to work in obviously. Gym gear, probably not inappropriate.

My sons carer would obviously disagree. I'm sure some here think I'm a prude. It's my house, not a office. I was wondering if I was out of touch prude until she showed too much interest in my older son and all started adding up.

Gym kit might be Nike Pro shorts. Which again are polarising in themselves. My 11 year wears them. But she is tiny and they are old size 8 so no butt cheek escapes. If I wore Nike Pro shorts my arse would fall out of them. No one wants to see that belive me.

Weeellokthen · 24/07/2026 16:40

Listen, I used to be young, I used to have a lovely figure, I used to enjoy showing it off and yes, it certainly was to get male attention.
So lets not pretend thats not what young women are still doing these days with their teeny, tiny skin tight clothing and boobs hangjng out.
No matter what anyone says, this is inappropriate and unprofessional attire.
I would be sent home by my employer if I rocked up dressed like that. Or is it because she's "just a cleaner" it's allowed?

BeetrootLentilsGoatsCheese · 24/07/2026 16:52

@FurierTransform

I am happy to admit that I am quite old fashioned and so am frequently shocked at the things you people wear these days. I include in this see through leggings, school length skirts, the batty rider shorts with half the bum hanging out etc. Fully happy to admit that I am "conservative"

However, I would never ever even think of saying anything to anyone.

I think where you perhaps fell down is this:

"But I can't help but feel its a little inappropriate and awkward, especially when husband and other males are around in the house."

We should not encourage the idea that men are unable to control themselves/avert their eyes/ leave the room if they feel so challenged by what a woman is wearing. That is a really bad slope to slide down.

I know right. 😆 I think it's a bra!

In the words of Mrs. Warboys ‘If that's water resistant, then I'm a Dutchman’

who said the MALE were doing anything?

It's the OP who is miffed because there are males around. If someone has strong insecurities, employ a male cleaner and problem solved?

BillieWiper · 24/07/2026 16:56

Do they have BO? If not I wouldn't care what they wear as long as it's more than bra and knickers. Even bra and knickers I wouldn't care if they didn't! I'd be slightly surprised for sure. But she's in shorts and some kind of crop top? That's fine in summer.

I don't look at the cleaner while they're working. You should just be in a different room or go out. If it's too offensive to your eyes.

That was a lot of words just to say "I'm insanely jealous of younger, pretty women and I don't trust my husband" 🙄
