AIBU to feel awkward about my cleaner's very revealing work outfit?

My cleaner wears what i'd describe as an extremely skimpy gym outfit. I'm not sure of the exact name of clothes like this but hopefully you can imagine what I mean. It leaves basically nothing to the imagination - basically painted on fabric, and not much of it.

I get it (especially in these temperatures) - sweaty manual work, wear what your comfortable in, it's current fashion for people in their early 20s, want to show off body, whatever.

But I can't help but feel its a little inappropriate and awkward, especially when husband and other males are around in the house.
I don't want to make it a thing but AIBU? Would you say anything?

Completely agree with you.

If my cleaner was wearing a lace push up bra and nothing else, I would raise an eyebrow.

If she was wearing normal gym wear, I would just think she's too hot. If I was thinking anything.

If it's ok for me to wear that, why would a cleaner not be allowed when she's cleaning?

Some women are so offended and jealous , it's painful

Yeah quite. Though If I looked like that pic I'd be doing more modelling than cleaning that's for sure! 😄
But it shouldn't matter a jot what someone wears as long as their work is professional.

SnoopyPajamas · 24/07/2026 18:20

You say you "get" that it's "hot, sweaty manual work" in these temperatures. I wonder if you actually do?

I'd suggest you do everything she does, at the same times of day and temperatures she's working in. Scrub, hoover, mop. Get off your arse and really get stuck in. See how fast you overheat. Then imagine you have to go out into the heat right after, travel to another house - without the luxury of a shower in between - and do the same thing all over again. And you're doing it all while some woman hangs about the house giving you the evil eye, because she's convinced you want to steal her out-of-shape husband, who hasn't been to the gym in eight years. But you must be gagging for him. Obviously 🙄

OP, I'm cleaning my own house in this heat, and by five minutes in I'm wishing I could strip off my skin. Walk a mile in her shoes before you start questioning her motives.

You are the one who seem to have an issue against young women are still doing these days with their teeny, tiny skin tight clothing and boobs hangjng out.
translation, normal women wearing normal clothes 😂

Why do you think i'm jealous?
I don't know, WHY could I possibly think that, let's see

😂is what I have stated NOT a FACT.
I WAS that young woman once 😂

CatrionaBalfour · 24/07/2026 18:31

Remember the heatwaves of 1976? I do.
I once came home from school to find my mum doing the housework in her bra and pants!
Didn't blame her.

So would I 😂

But you'd think that if one place was appropriate for gymwear, cleaning would be one?

People are weird. Let's not even start on the need for "ugly" au-pair or "ugly_ nannies 😂

Why are your DH and other males not capable of resisting your cleaner?

Yeah, you're behind closed doors and your client shouldn't be observing you anyway. Cleaners work better when not being stared at.

SleepingStandingUp · 24/07/2026 19:34

tell your husband to keep his eyes to himself, she doesn't deserve him staring at her whilst she's working to clean his house. surely it's awkward if she's cleaning around him cos hel is the same room or loitering nearby to chance a glance?

MyDarlingRose · 24/07/2026 19:42

chirrupybird · 24/07/2026 15:59

I think the op means her husband is embarrassed by a nearly naked woman floating about his house, not that he is likely to assault her. If it was a male cleaner walking about in see through budgie smugglers there would be no doubt he was a predatory male who should be fired however hot the weather was. The cleaners choice what she wears but it doesn't mean other people have to look at it in their own home. If she is making the op uncomfortable then she would be gone.

But she’s not in underwear… she’s in shorts and a sports top. Presumably because they’re cool and wick away sweat while she’s doing physical labour.

Not the same as a thing or bikini top.

WHERE did you see the husband was even staring?

The only thing the OP said was
SHE was uncomfortable especially when husband and other males are around in the house.

The husband seems to be minding his own business, it's the OP who having a strop because he's in the same house

It's hot sweaty work and it's a heatwave, leave her be! She's not wearing it for "the males" she's trying to be comfortable.

She might be wearing it for the males also....you can't possibly know....

I was a domestic cleaner when I was younger. The vast majority of the time you're cleaning properties where either nobody is home because they're all at work, or its a housewife at home with the kids. Its very seldom you go to a property where there are any males around. As another poster mentioned, she will be cleaning other homes throughout the day. Does OP really think her cleaner specifically changes her outfit just to do what is probably her only job that day where males are present?

Hajjihajjo · Yesterday 17:49

You employ her. If you are uncomfortable with her in any way, get another cleaner. . . I personally don’t understand the need some now feel to expose the female body so much under the guise of fashion and weather. Just as I won’t have my sons walking around with their bum cheeks hanging out, I feel same for my daughters. Each to his own but I won’t have it in my house. Send her parking.

Sunshine231 · Yesterday 17:50

I don’t really see why your husband or anyone else should have to be in the room with the cleaner while she is cleaning? Isn’t it usual protocol to at least move into another room to let the cleaner do their job? Surely you are not going to be around the cleaner for much longer than it takes to say a quick hi and bye 🤷‍♀️ and there is no way to tell her you’re unhappy with her clothing without making her feel uncomfortable so if she is a good cleaner I would recommend keeping quiet, I doubt she would want to come back after being told something like that and good cleaners are in high demand!

Booboobagins · Yesterday 17:59

Seriously if we don't get into sisterhood soon, we really are doomed!

A woman dressed in gym gear is not wearing it to turn men on just like your cleaner isn't wearing her clothes to turn men on!!!

I don’t understand why you’re so uncomfortable with the human body. I would hate to be so prudish.

Well, I would suggest if you are bothered by the clothing you're cleaner wears, it might be easier to do the cleaning yourself or perhaps any other males or females in the house. That way there would be less distraction for any ooglers.

honeylulu · Yesterday 18:07

It sounds like a completely practical outfit for doing physical work on a hot day. I wouldn't bat an eyelid. My husband might notice if she had an eye catching figure but he's perfectly capable of not staring/leering.⁷

brightnails · Yesterday 18:07

I don’t want to feel my own sweaty tummy under my arm for example as I’m reaching to clean my own house, or see my not great boobs as I lean forward to clean a mirror or something so I cover up a bit, I also get really hot at work in the heatwave but still wear scrubs. I’m also getting really bored of seeing topless men in shorts day after day on neighbours roof when I’m trying to use my garden. sometimes you do need to cover up 🤷🏽‍♀️

If she had an amazing body she’ll be doing it for the attention.

Yes because God forbid women who work hard on themselves let anyone else see it 😂

Allergictoironing · Yesterday 18:16

I'm still failing to see where the OP says that the cleaner's tits and arse are hanging out.

OK I agree the word "skimpy" could suggest that, but she goes on to say it's the fact that the fabric is very form fitting and that "leaves nothing to the imagination". From that I was imagining something like the picture posted by someone up thread - top and leggings with maybe a gap across the midriff

MammarOfOne · Yesterday 18:28

If you can’t trust your husband to not stare at your cleaner, that’s a husband problem, not a cleaner problem.

I would not be happy for my cleaner to turn up in this
