Do you feel nervous or uneasy using unisex loos?

It is a bit offputting when several men are washing hands and whistling away and you are only woman there. Or if you leave a loo at same time and clock eyes with a bloke.

IME that’ll be coming from the women. I’ve been in women’s toilets that had period blood and shit smeared all over the walls

Are you sure it’s not over enthusiastic flushes? I’ve been horrified to see a wet seat as I leave, and realised it’s the water jumping back out of the cistern.

Goodness, never encountered that. No, I’m pretty sure it’s the male users, on the basis that the gender specific (women’s) toilets elsewhere in the terminal are fine.

I do not believe anyone could genuinely use female loo in normal airports, shopping centres, restaurants.. and claim they are never "dirty" of have never come across seats with pee on them.

Women's public toilets are vile, unless they have a full-time attendant in them.

Not all unisex loos have sinks inside the cubicles even though they should.

I have cleaned loo’s and I can tell you categorically the men’s stink beyond anything that I have ever encountered in the ladies.

As long as I can find a toilet to use, I really don't care how they're designated, or who else uses them. I do mind finding other people's bodily waste in the cubicle, and since I tend to use public toilets built for women, I can only conclude that not all women leave the place as they (or I) would wish to find it. It's not just the manky men leaving the place filthy.
Anyway. No, unisex doesn't bother me. Actually, my best toilet experience at a gig was the time I bypassed the queue for the ladies and went into the one for 'all genders'. Not sure where, but Brighton is probably as good a guess as anywhere else. It was totally empty and sparkling in there. I presume nobody else fancied it.

One venue near me decided to introduce all unisex loos when they increased their toilet provision. A mix of specially designed unisex toilets and a rather bodged conversion of the existing facilities. It didn't last.

They still have one set of the new unisex loos (a long row of little rooms on a narrow corridor) but they soon restored a set of women's loos. These were the old cubicles with shared basins in the middle and were just embarrassing for both sexes when they were mixed-sex. Epic fail. Each sex tried to use a different side of the room.

Before they restored the women's toilets I was reluctant to go to events there and I don't use the unisex ones now.

I’ve only seen unisex loos where they’re individual/ standalone cubicle with its own entrance, sink etc. not where they’re multiple cubicles with a common door and sinks.

I’ve only used one once and I hated it. Self-contained loos (ie with a washbasin) that are unisex are ok. Communal ones are not. They feel very unsafe to me.

They're hugely variable. I've been in some which are roomy and pristine - they're fine. I've been in others which are cramped, dark, and with a wet floor which is distinctly unpleasant, as well as narrow corridor outside where you have to squeeze past men to get out. I'd rather queue for the women's than have to navigate those ones.

I definitely avoid unisex toilets if i can. My most recent experience has been at the Design museum where all the toilets are unisex. Predictably the toilets are disgusting, pee all over the floors, toilets left unflushed and just much dirtier than any women only toilets in a museum I've ever had to use.

If you can make assumptions like that about other women purely because of their views on toilets then you are not the feminist you think you are and you do not fucking speak for victims of physical and sexual violence like me.

If you really gave a shit about women like me at all, you would never make that assumption in a million years.

If you consider yourself a feminist, you really, REALLY need to do better and you need to understand that you are not supporting other women by denying their experiences. Perfectly fine for you disagree with me on toilets, but not fucking fine at all to deny my experiences or accuse me of being privileged.

It is better when the cubicle is floor to ceiling but with a gab is worse. ALso if you have to walk past urinals when men are 'busy' that is dire, not had that yet but in one place that had a urinal section separate but 2 loos for ladies...still grim and unsettling. ANd awkward at the sinks!! Always. I dont think most people are comfortable

On a sidenote, I assume everyone here puts loo paper on the seat and doesnt sit rght on the seat?!😶
