Do you feel nervous or uneasy using unisex loos?

It is a bit offputting when several men are washing hands and whistling away and you are only woman there. Or if you leave a loo at same time and clock eyes with a bloke.

Not nervous, just disgusted that men can’t bloody clean up after themselves so I have to go to the loo with piss over the floor and on the seat.

Not per se. In my goth days the lads would often come into the ladies' loos to do their hair and makeup and I have, in the past, gone into the gents if the queue for the ladies was too long.

My only issue would be their lack of aim and, let's be frank, boys' loos stink lol

All the unisex facilities I've ever come across in the UK have lockable enclosed cubicles with floor-to-ceiling doors. No gaps at the top of bottom of doors or partitions.

No because after men use them they smell like a gents.

I've used the gents before in an emergency, I don't care about the presence of males, but on a regular basis I don't want to share the facilities because male urine stinksand makes the whole cubicle smelly, men are less careful with hand washing and it feeels unhygeinic. I'm well aware women can make a mess as well but the smell seldom hits you as you walk in.

I don’t mind a communal loo as all the ones I have visited have been seperate cubicles with sinks. And much better in terms of queuing.

I did cleaning when I was younger and the ladies was always more disgusting than the men’s.

I don't care. I don't really put much thought into toilets, I go in, pee, wash my hands and leave. I don't really clock who else in there. Public toilets aren't particularly known as being pleasant place to hang around so I just mind my business and get in and out.

Yeah that's illegal as far as I know. Sink must be inside cubicle and each cubicle marked m/f. Not shared sinks outside of the cubicles.

It's always trotted out, but in my experience (including my time as a cleaner) the gents are always horrific

Disabled people (who in general are far less likely to be able to protect themselves/run away than most of you) have had to deal with this forever.

No, I don't have a problem at all, and if anything, I think their toilets need to be made safer.

Why would pronouns be an issue? It's not hard to avoid speaking to strangers in the washroom.

I wouldn't use a unisex loo unless I was absolutely desperate and there was no alternative. I would avoid, and have avoided, places where only unisex loos are available. I think a lot of people, both men and women, find them uncomfortable.
*I'm referring to multi-cubicle facilities here. I would use a self-contained unisex loo.

I don’t even like using unisex changing rooms, let alone toilets. They should be seperate with seperate entrances as far as I’m concerned.

Hate it and should have a choice. Im more concerned about wee sploshed everywhere and toilet seats left up.

If it's an all in one unit - toilet plus sink - and enclosed floor to ceiling then no problem.

Actually while this is usually okay - I can think of one local example when it's going to be a time of day it okay and maybe not other times.

It's off the beaten track pub - lovely food - the toilet are two self contained but they are in what was clearly one sex toilet area. It's down a corridor with a turn away from main pub or staff area - and in day end of corridor door opens onto neigbouing food court.

During day when we eat there - we tend to automatcially stagger men and women in family going and it feels safe.

At night that door at end of corridor is closed - the door to pub is closed - and the pub gets busy. I don't think it would be safe as you are some distance - and few corner turns away from people and staff in sound proof area with music piped in- if an attacker could get you into one of the two floor to ceiling and with no-one around or in hearing distance you could easily get in trouble and only reason to go near that area would be to use toilets. I think in a pub with alchol imparing judgement it does feel worse.

I've seen other layout - one in mussum recently which was uni sex and cubilces with basins which again was very away from everyone - two flights of stairs and a basement and did meet couple of older men when teen DD2 and I were using it - who looked very put out and unsettled by arrangement - I didn't feel unsafe but glad I'd gone with teen DD2. Again it was a long way from anyone else if there had been problems.

The poster originally quoted was taking issue with having to meet with the CEO AFTER they had done a poo. Where’s the risk when said poo is already over? I think that poster was implying disgust or embarrassment, which is a separate issue. Or is it perhaps reasonable to feel a stronger reaction when the CEO is male?

Despise them. I’m not intimidated - as one of the lucky ones who has never experienced SA - I just resent having to breathe in stinking particles of male piss. It reminds me why I make DH and DS sit down to wee at home (and to stay the fuck out of my bathroom). Ugh.

I don’t like the ones at the Royal Festival Hall - on every floor now except one they’re unisex. They’ve converted the existing set up, so each cubicle is self contained with sink etc. sounds good but all the cubicles are off what is now a narrow corridor with a dead end, due to how they’ve done the conversion.

The little corridor is poorly lit as well as being narrow. So no, I didn’t feel safe. I wasn’t impressed overall.

I wouldn't allow my kids to be in a toilet being used by any of our male relatives, so WHY THE FUCK should they be exposed to random unidentified men in public toilets?

All these fucking misogynist ten a penny creeps who "forget" to lock the door, or walk about still zipping up, man spreading into the whole space, eyeing us up, and obviously the huge potential for worse in an area with no CCTV.

It's as if the people "in charge" enjoy and choose to make such dangerous decisions without regard for safeguarding of children' and woman...I wonder why that could be?

unisex loos are awful. The bar nearer my work has unisex loos and it’s full of men and women looking uncomfortable or looking for the single sex option. I know some folk from work have shagged in there too. 🤮

There was one in a ski resort in France. I would normally let DD go on her own to the loo in restaurants but this one was unisex, in the basement and dark. Men were using the loos with the doors open and the toilet seats were covered in piss. I had to wipe it before DD could use it. It was very intimidating.

I cleaned loos when I was younger too and the men’s was always far far worse than the women’s.
