To think that it’s a bit sad that women on this site look to Sex and the City as some sort of life guru?l

Honestly you can barely open a thread without cries of ‘he’s just not that into you’ or ‘sounds like you’re a post-it girl’.

It was a (brilliant) show but it was just a show. It’s not real. It’s not real life situations. It’s not advice to live your life by. It makes you sound stupid.

Charlotte was the best out of the bunch.

Carrie was one of the worst characters that has ever graced television IMO and how anyone could like her, let alone aspire to be like her is beyond me.

Totally agree.

AnonyMumAuDHD · 22/07/2026 21:50

All the bots and oddbods are out starting threads tonight, aren’t they? Yet another bizarre and implausible OP.

I’ve never watched it, even though I was the target demographic for it when it came out in the late 1990s.

Also never seen it referenced on this site before, albeit I’ve only been on here for a couple of years.

mondaytosunday · 22/07/2026 21:53

Yea but ‘he’s just not that into you’ is often very true. Never heard of ‘post-it girl’ though.

EmeraldRoulette · 22/07/2026 21:54

@Calliopespa Emily in Paris

Same producer and some canny references to S&TC. There's a lot of hate watcher for it on here but it's "such fun".

Implausible? You can read the threads.

Abso-fucking-lutely.

Shloopie · 22/07/2026 21:58

Googling tells me Carrie was dumped by post-it in an episode. But I'm not completely clear what a 'post-it girl' is. Someone who's dumped via text? 🤔

I don't know either - it's not a term that was ever used in the show

WerewolfOfLoudon · 22/07/2026 21:59

EmeraldRoulette · 22/07/2026 21:43

it wasn’t on a pillow
It was on her laptop screen

You’re referring to “ I’m sorry, I can’t, don’t hate me” right?

For some reason I thought it was the pillow, but yes that's the Berger post it note.

DancingNotDrowning · 22/07/2026 22:00

Thepeopleversuswork · 22/07/2026 21:27

It actually was inspired by SATC: the people who wrote the book, Greg Behrendt and Liz Tucillo were writers on SATC.

It's still an odd example: that phrase has been in near-universal coinage for 20+ years and isn't particularly associated with SATC.

You’ve just made my point in different words.

Whilst the phrase was spoken in Sex and the City, Sex and City was not what made it famous. That came with the book and subsequent franchise.

the term “being into” someone was commonplace in the 80s so saying someone is not that into you was likely in common parlance then and wouldn’t have attracted any attention.

Link these threads then

orangehandles · 22/07/2026 22:01

Never seen Sex and the City, and you'd have to pull my eyelashes out one by one to force me to do so.

I have, on the other hand, seen the phrase 'he's just not that into you' on here, but had no idea it was from that programme.

Backedoffhackedoff · 22/07/2026 22:01

I loved satc but it was 25 years ago. No one thinks about it now, let alone thinks of it as a “life guru”

DontrockthecaravanGeoffrey · 22/07/2026 22:02

I think a post-it girl means something like Miss Right Now.
Someone who you have in your life for a short time but not permanently. She's temporary like a post-it note you put on your desk to remind you to buy sugar. Important right now, but not something you want on your desk forever and that you will bin as soon as the moment's over.

Edited to add - I don't remember this ever being in the show. But it was over two decades ago now.

Luddite26 · 22/07/2026 22:03

Can't say I've noticed any of what you are saying but I never watched it. I think you're exaggerating.

WerewolfOfLoudon · 22/07/2026 21:59

Paper covers rock

How times have changed - that day became "the day I (carrie) got arrested for smoking a Doobie". Now nobody would give a shit.

Snufkin88 · 22/07/2026 22:03

I’ve never seen it so have no idea

singthing · 22/07/2026 22:03

Puley · 22/07/2026 21:18

Those are also annoying but at least those aren’t quoting lines from sitcoms as if it’s safe advice they’re imparting.

I would hazard a guess that a shit load more people quote a CGI meerkat ("simples") and that gets a pass without comment.

That gets more on my tits than a bit of common sense advice that was used in at least one TV show, and more than likely many more.

echt · 22/07/2026 22:05

Puley · 22/07/2026 21:55

Implausible? You can read the threads.

What a strange and overblown "thesis" for a thread. Life guru indeed.

Quoting a TV show - one I've never watched - does not mean you live by its precepts, if a TV show can ever be said to have such an ideology.
"He's just not that into you" is memorable and very likely applicable to RL cases. It works. So what?

By the way, what threads do you refer to? The resounding WTF are you on about responses on this thread show you're wide of the mark.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

I suppose its a similar formula - ie; actually about a city (NY/Paris) more than anything else?

Another one who has never seen either of those comments on any thread, so ‘barely open a thread’ seems to be quite the exaggeration.

and you know what they say….if you have to exaggerate to make a point, then you probably don’t have a point.
