Honestly you can barely open a thread without cries of ‘he’s just not that into you’ or ‘sounds like you’re a post-it girl’.

It was a (brilliant) show but it was just a show. It’s not real. It’s not real life situations. It’s not advice to live your life by. It makes you sound stupid.

What's a post it note girl? I've never heard of it before, certainly not on here. Google just gives me pictures of girls with post it notes on their foreheads.

'He's just not that into you' can be true and makes sense as advice. Not sure what your issue is really.

It actually was inspired by SATC: the people who wrote the book, Greg Behrendt and Liz Tucillo were writers on SATC.

It's still an odd example: that phrase has been in near-universal coinage for 20+ years and isn't particularly associated with SATC.

Being "into" someone originated in the 1970s. So, assumedly, would not being into someone @Puley .

Generations have used different terms to iterate that someone isn't feeling the attraction/devotion to someone else. It is just a term, not a lifestyle from SATC.

There is a thread today where multiple posters are accusing the OP of being a post it girl. Clearly trying to be sneering and nasty, by quoting a TV show.

It’s just how culture works. Something is popular, then becomes part of the vernacular. See Friends, Jaws, EastEnders. It’s not advice just a turn of phrase. It’s how language develops through popular culture.

I’m also a big fan of the show, but it’s what 25 years old now? If lines are coming out in posts, it’s probably because they became part of common parlance. It’s not likely to be because the whole of MN is watching or re-watching the show.

I've been on Mumsnet for at least a decade and I've never come across anyone saying these things. Well maybe I've read the phrase "he's just not that into you", but that phrase existed long before SATC. I've definitely never seen "post it girl" on here. So it's most definitely not "constant" as you say. I think you're talking nonsense.

Carrie is NOT the woman we should be looking up to. All her friends were way better people. They all did so much for Carrie and she ditched them for a man that didn’t even like her all that much. Samantha is my icon, personally.

and to be honest, nobody is using it for advice. If you take the phrase “he’s just not that into you” without the context of the show though, that IS good advice. It’s got nothing to do with the show.

Carrie was one of the worst characters that has ever graced television IMO and how anyone could like her, let alone aspire to be like her is beyond me.

You timed this thread badly in terms of negative input from me because I have not really thought about it for some time ( and not for years before the last movie) and then just tonight was thinking is there a series that has the same "collapse in front of the screen with a tub of ice cream" satisfaction as SATC used to.
