Yabu!

Lucky you I presume you can afford to heat your house rather than being sat wrapped in a blanket

Supersimkin7 · 22/07/2026 20:42

Cold AND sunny.

Bliss.

RhosynCymru · 22/07/2026 20:42

Not unreasonable at all but sadly we don’t get these conditions enough.

Clafoutie · 22/07/2026 20:47

I agree in theory OP, except that we never seem to get the crisp Autumn /Winter weather we imagine we will! It inevitably seems to be just grey and actually too warm for the season, so it ends up just sort of yuck ☹️ Anyway, we can but hope I suppose!

Noooo sorry to be the misery here but …

Up here in the true north of the UK - northern Scotland - and not having access to gas, at the mercy of global oil prices thanks to Trump especially, I am dreading colder days and particularly November to end March.

Been eking out my heating oil as I’m expecting it to cost hundreds of pounds more for each fill, which cannot be less than 500 litres. No cap on heating oil! You hear about help but it’s only for people on certain benefits. Just being a pensioner on the so called pension benefit doesn’t count. I have saved but honestly I really worry for many people up here unless the price goes down or wilder help is available

From all the comments I’m guessing you’re mainly in England and also mainly the southern half

Sorry!!!!!!

Sorry @Dogwaterbottle x

Yes i'm a londoner - I wish cold for the south and an oil price crash for you in Scotland 💜

I’m not a fan of winter, I love the summer (from London too). But, even in winter, I can’t imagine wishing my life away like that! Not sure London is for you, or maybe you just need a bit more excitement in your life to stop wishing the days away!

Nothing is done properly anymore, including the weather

This time of year with loads of daylight and sunshine is the best.

People like to witter on about crisp and bright and crunching through leaves and frost whereas it's more likely to be wet, foggy and dull.

This is true, if I could make heating cheaper for everyone, I would xx

But we don’t get cold frosty mornings in England, in winter. It’s grey, mild(ish) and damp. Maybe three days if we’re lucky.

Remember how many days of blue skies (and therefore very cold temperatures) we had last winter? Almost none!

Thank you- yes, if only we could share!!! Ive not envied the temperatures you’ve had this year, I love the sun but not at that level!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 22/07/2026 21:07

I think YABU, and would say this to someone “excited” for summer in mid December / January too, because you’re wishing your life away.

I’m not mad keen on the furthest extremes either way (so when it’s a heatwave like we’ve had recently or when it’s very cold and snowy) or on rain, but basically I like some things about every season. Otherwise you’re discounting half your life!

VillageFete · 22/07/2026 21:11

I’m amongst my people (Those longing for frost)

I’m certain that we usually get at least a few frosty days in the North West, in Nov and Dec - although as I mentioned upthread, we didn’t last year.

Is this the same for the whole of the UK? Why is frost becoming a rarity?

I love a proper autumn and winter. Autumn being a bit chilly, you need a jumper, the trees are blazing red and chestnut brown. Winter - You can see your breath when you’re outside, you need a coat, sometimes gloves, and my beloved frost isn’t a rarity!

Carsexitthroughthecarpark · 22/07/2026 21:17

Not in the south. We get a handful of cold frosty mornings and very rarely in the autumn.

But I do like them. We had mist this morning. Praying for the end of the heatwave and for neighbour to stop having weekend firepits - because, summer.

Things I don’t like about winter - fuel prices and the struggle some have to heat their homes adequately and pay for it; Scottish people having to get up and walk/work in the dark; people struggling to entertain their children; drying laundry.

Things I do like about autumn and winter = literally everything else. I love wearing winter clothes, boots, extra socks, jumpers, tucking your bottom layer in, candles, closing your curtains early, hot drinks, seeing your breath outside for the first time, scarves, the list goes on and on.

I don’t think people are wishing their lives away any more than people booking their summer holiday in January and looking forward to it, or looking forward to their new baby or birthday etc.

But the two groups of people are just different from each other. Maybe there should be an autumn/winter board. But even then people would complain, like they do when they see a Christmas thread in the Christmas section. It would depend on people being proactive and hiding that section from their Active view.

I do agree about there being no frosts last winter though. I did hear people scraping their windscreens a few times but that was always well before 6, and by 7ish when most people started to leave there was no ice left to scrape.

SummerPeonies2026 · 22/07/2026 21:49

Do you not love the garden full of roses and flowers? Meadows full of wild flowers? Butterflies, bees. Bird song. Sweet scent of baked grsss. Lying in the garden staring at vivid blue skies, friends over for bbqs. Summer cocktails. Swimming outside. Feeling like it is endless and carefree.

Op there is so much to enjoy about summer - but maybe London is stifling. Come here 🌸

Middlemarch123 · 22/07/2026 22:00

My perfect 24 hours would be in April, so clocks have gone forward, just right amount of daylight hours . A.M temp 12, highest temp P.M 16. Dry, bright with light breeze, so I can enjoy hanging out laundry, feeding the birds, gardening and tending the beautiful spring flowers. Cool evening, then two hours heavy rain late evening. All year round. Could be October, because I like the colours, but Spring is best because nature is beginning not winding down.

Lentilcakes · 22/07/2026 22:00
