Why is there no solution to the 'used-once-but-not-dirty' clothes pile?

We all have this, don't we? A pile of clothes on a chair in the bedroom that aren't dirty enough to wash but not clean enough to go back in the wardrobe.

Mine sit on a chair looking untidy.

Try as I might, I can't find a solution. Blanket ladders aren't sturdy enough to put up with daily use, chairs take up a lot of space, hooks don't work for two people's worth of clothes.

AIBU for being frustrated there is not a magical solution to this? Or is there one that is being gate-kept by the eternally tidy and house proud crew?

OP you need an exercise bike. They're designed for hanging clothes on.

I hang them on the back of the WFH office chair to wear the next day.

Dirty outerwear shouldn’t go in your clean clothes wardrobe.

Worn clothes can attract moths in the summer (they love a bit of natural skin oil and sweat), and will also be the most likely culprits to introduce mould or mildew into your wardrobe in the winter - especially if you’ve got a lot of clothes and have items that go back in and don’t get worn again for months.

Perfumes, toiletries, general dirt from public transport or shops, invisible spills - there’ll be stuff on there even if the clothes look and smell perfectly fine.

I have a row of wall hooks, OP, and always put things on hangers so I can easily see what needs rewearing. If it’s been sat there sadly for a few weeks I just chuck it back in the wash.

I do exactly the same, even jeans. I never wear things twice.
But then I did used to be really sweaty so was always worried things would smell. I'm not so much now but still can't shake the worry.

You are too dismissive of hooks. I found a nice double-spike style and have 3 of them arranged vertically on the wall next to my wardrobe. 6 spikes is plenty, if they are full I put effort into choosing my clothes from the items on the hooks so that they can go in the laundty after a 2nd wear. If I had a 2nd person to worry about the clothes of I would put another 3 on the other side

I wear most things once. Occasionally jeans two days running but they're just folded up ready to wear again next to my bed.
I wouldn't ever wear something once and put in with clean stuff. Seems weird.

I wouldn’t wear trousers/skirts twice when the temperatures have been in the 30oC. Esp when theyre not cotton or linen. Desk job or not

I hang such clothes in the airing cupboard for a few days, then they go back in the wardrobe.

What do you do with ‘foldy’ things as opposed to ‘hangy’ things, so to speak?

I have a clothes rail in the bedroom where the things I need all the time, like fleeces, cardigans etc, hang. Worn-but-not-dirty things hang at one end of it, where I can see them.

I fold clean but worn things at the bottom
of the bed and hang dresses behind the door.

I either with buying a Floordrobe, but they’re still on the chair yet.

Mine go back in the wardrobe … or stay at the end of my bed if I’m being lazy

My washer/dryer has a ‘dry clean’ setting so i use that.

No, because I might wear a pair of trousers 2 or 3 times, but if I put it back in the wardrobe I would think it was clean or would have no idea how often it had been worn.

I have a basket on one of my shelves that the things are neatly folded into. If it fills up and I haven't worn them - I transfer the oldest to the washing basket

No matter how clean you are, your clothes will have a very slight worn smell to them after they have been worn. If you put all your worn clothes in the closed environment of a wardrobe the smell of all your clothes will get worse. Just air them until the next wear.
