AIBU to think school giving out awards to exceptional children is unfair?

Year 6 leavers assembly, some children were invited beforehand to a private invite only special awards ceremony for exceptional achievements. They then stood up and showed their awards at the general leavers assembly. Does this seem unfair? I felt for all the children who didn’t get a special award.

Because they said so. And asked why my son was getting special treatment and favouritism.

It just simply due to his intellect and mathematical skills.

It's no hardship to work hard at something you're naturally good at - it's satisfying.
just because YOU find it satisfying doesn't mean others wouldn't prefer to be doing something else.

Maybe you had nothing better to do than study, it doesn't mean all the others shouldn't be acknowledged and rewarded for reaching top marks.

It's a very strange mindset to dismiss the top students, it's usually people who look for excuse to justify failure who do that.

I have, you are convinced that someone who has a nicer environment cannot have worked as hard or harder, and doesn't deserve recognition because his circumstances are unfairly giving him an advantage.
