To find tea drinkers exhausting? 🍵
I might have the very odd cup in the rare event of a hangover. Dh would only have one if a guest is present. When we have tea - drinking guests they will drink about 3 cups in a row , five times per day. I've started telling them to help themselves to a cup because it's so exhausting keeping up with making cups of tea. Why not have a glass of water every now & then? There really is no need for copious amounts imo- especially in this weather. Are they addicted?

Op I’m with you but don’t drink any hot drinks ever - I drink water through the day, takes about 10 seconds to pour and drink.
Some people treat tea/coffee drinking as some kind of ritual! Jesus the amount of time spent on boiling, brewing, sitting and waiting for it to be the right temperature to be able to drink…
I don’t get it myself as a non hot drink drinker and find it tedious being out and about with people who want to stop for half an hour for a cup of tea 🫠🫠

But tea is treated as "special" in the UK.

Yes - because it is. It's not about everyone liking it, it's just because it's historically been part of British culture. Similarly, coffee is treated as 'special' in Italy, fresh bread daily is treated as 'special' in France, vodka is treated as 'special' in Russia etc. Most cultures have specific foods and drinks that are considered culturally significant. That's one of the things that's interesting about different countries and cultures.

When you say chats while making tea, that is the same as the way tea is usually drunk in China. You all sit at the table and make the tea at the table. And the tea is poured into small cups as you sit and chat, or watch TV, or sit on your phone.

Depending on the house, or where you are, the tea making can be a ceremony. Special tea tables, kettles, loads of different types of small pots. Tea bags are around, but not really used in the house. It is mostly loose tea, all different sorts, usually plantation specific.

It's the tea making that is the social thing. Rather then bung a bag in a mug in the kitchen.

It is a really nice way to do it.

I drink either tea or lift lemon tea, I dislike coffee with a passion. The cup size for me would be the issue, if it is a cup on the smaller side then I would probably want another one. If it was a huge mug then I am sure 1 would be enough. I would not say it is exhausting being a tea drinker!

boil kettle - make a big family sized pot of tea.

give a jug of milk, sugar a spoon and a mug and let them enjoy.

often do that at the weekend - a massive pot of tea just for me to pour myself loads of mugs from!

or make a couple of big insulated travel mugs full to the brim.

I will easily drink 8 cups of tea a day. In big mugs too. It’s my comfort. Don’t offer tea if you don’t want to make it.

I hate it when people always offer wine. I don’t want booze, I want tea!

But.. it’s English culture to drink a lot of tea. I drink 2-4 cups of tea a day. I have a coffee in the morning. Almost everyone I’ve ever known (well) has drank a few cups of tea daily.

Lots of suggestions to use a teapot. Think I'll buy one if it makes life easier 😁 Any suggestions on a nice/funny one?

If the idea is to make a pot and leave it for second and third helpings, I’d try to get one with a basket for the leaves (idk if there’s a technical term) so the remaining tea isn’t stewing too much. And a cosy to keep it warm of course.

And then there’s Japan - though obviously the ritual with a tea house isn’t an everyday brew!

Though I must admit that as a young twenty-something, starting out in the professional world, it was always a bit uncomfortable to respond to "tea or coffee?" with "do you have any squash?" 🤣

Get some massive mugs OP. We have tea around four times a day but we use pint size mugs. I hate being offered tea in a tea cup!

Tea is great. Healthy and comforting. Much better than all the sugary shit some people seem to drink all day instead.

I wouldn’t want a pint mug, it’d be cold before I’d finished it. A normal mug is about half a pint, whereas a traditional teacup is only about a quarter pint (5floz).

😂 Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a few alcoholic beverages too! Can't beat the sound of wine glugging into a glass either.

despite growing up with a mum who was a tea ‘addict’, she even had a teasmaid 😱🤣 next to her bed (yup I’m an 80’s baby) I absolutely 100% despise the stuff! I realise I’m very much on my own and classed as a weirdo, but I totally get you OP.

Most? No. I don't know anyone (and I make tea for lots at work) who still has sugar in tea.

Even those who do have much less than e.g. in a can of Coke. 9 teaspoons of sugar in a can of Coke, 5 teaspoons of sugar in a glass of orange juice. No one's having that much sugar in tea.

I love PG Tips, with milk and 2 saccharin and have 1, sometimes 2 mugs a day at work, which is Monday to Saturday, and regular Sundays, then a mug at home with dinner, and sometimes sitting on the edge of the bed in the early hours guzzling another mug. Not exhausting at all!

I also drink up to 4 litres of water a day too, as I have a reusable water bottle on my work desk, 2 on my bedside table, and another on my home desk, all of which I'm constantly drinking from then refilling!

I once had a domestic cleaner who drank coffee with milk and two sugars. I would spend the two hours constantly putting the kettle on and I've never bought so much sugar in my life! My latest lady got the job when she said she drank black coffee 😂

If you do want to pity me, pity me for the fact that the smell of tea / coffee, tea /coffee stains, tea bags, unwashed tea / coffee mugs / spoons etc make me nauseous!!! And don't get me started on coffee breath 🤢

I absolutely love tea. It's calming when I'm stressed, it's a pick-me-up when I'm tired, it's just lovely. I drink 3-4 cups a day.

I'm not sure how it could be exhausting to prepare tea. Switch on kettle, teabag in cup, pour water, add a splash of milk. Probably takes 30 seconds. If you make a pot with loose tea, that might take a bit more time, maybe an additional 20 seconds.
