AIBU to think Andy Burnham might call a general election soon?

To think Andy Burnham will call a general election before Christmas? Yes it would be a massive roll of the dice but,

Reform - don't have the numbers for a GE and there's all frog faces suspicious money bringing him a lot of heat.

Torys - kemi doesn't have a lot of depth, I feel and she hasn't changed much in the polls. She's good at the dispatch box but let's face it anyone could stand up and insult the other side.

By calling a GE Andy would have his own mandate and break the deadlock of the back benchers.

Not being unreasonable = he needs to call a GE

Your being unreasonable = Robotic Kier and Ratchet Reeves have gone and Andy just needs to get on with it now.

I think he should - but I don't think he will. Too risky for his own position and party. He will do what everyone else does, ignore the manifesto and do what he wants anyway.

I doubt it.. politicians call elections when they are forced to, or when they think they can win/increase their majority.

I think he needs to get his feet under the desk, make some early bold changes, and then see how things are panning out at the polls. It does look like Reform have peaked and are now tanking somewhat; why give them them three years to regroup? That said, the polls are still not good for Labour.

The Labour Party may want AB but the majority of the country do not.

The working population is poorer, taxes are at ridiculous levels and the number who live off benefits when they don't need to is out of control.

We have immigrant gangs running scams and money laundering on every high street.

NhS waiting lists are improving but education is a total mess. Our food security has been undermined. The grooming gangs have not been stopped. Our young people have been priced out of work. Small businesses are struggling.

Our system is designed to allow for transfer of leadership between elections, unnecessary disruption won't help anyone.

Politically it would only happen if he gets a significant poll bounce.

He has 3 years to make a difference, without needing to go through the distraction and disruption of a general election. Whether he can make any progress is down to him and whomever he chooses to serve with him in his Cabinet.

We need someone to stick in the role longer than has happened in recent years and a General Election would just be an expensive distraction.

Not a chance, he'd risk losing. I'd rather he goes the full term, by which time Kemi might have gained more support. I think she's really impressive, and Farage has had his day now.

Not a chance. He stood in leadership elections twice before he actually became leader, he won’t let it slip away now.

Considering that he wasn’t even an MP until a few weeks ago, I find it difficult to believe he has a legitimate right to become PM.
If he’d been an MP following the last general election, no problem, the Conservatives swapped leader several times, although each time Labour insisted there should be a general election, so what’s changed? 🤔
