How to approach neighbour about 6am screaming…

My neighbour opposite has young children, I sympathise and understand kids that age are going to make noise, it’s just what they do.

However every single weekend for the past 6 months since then moved in (and I imagine most of the summer hols) the neighbour has been letting them play out in the front garden from 6am or getting them in the car and they just scream full pelt non stop.
It’s right opposite my bedroom window, they wake me up and I can’t get back to sleep.
I am absolutely sick of it. They are council tenants can I put in a noise complaint? I have mentioned it to the mother before and she didn’t seem to see the issue using the excuse they’re little.

This morning it was from 5.45am.

Have you considered kidnapping them and leaving them in the middle of a forest?

Go round and explain she’s waking up half the street who are getting grumpy. Ask if she can put the kids in a different room.

I wonder what time thy go to bed if they are up at 6? Probably quite early? you are allowed to be noisy in the evening till about 9-10 pm. Just saying.

A, I live next door to a screamer. She screams about 10 times an hour. Including in those hours of the day she's shouting (instead of talking) and running around or on her scooter indoors.
B, She always screams and shouts when she leaves the house. Apparently it's exciting?
C, Have some sympathy for the OP, it's obviously happening enough to start to get her down.
D, Parents are more entitled shits who really could teach their children not to scream and shout but don't.

Trust me private tenants aren't allowed to make loads of noise, depending on your landlord. Our ex landlord had no qualms bollocking us for our noise

My screaming next door monster goes to bed when her parents do. Anything from 11-1am. She turned 4 this year.

I actually think some of her behavioural problems (screams, shouts, cries instantly) is down to bad parenting and lack of sleep & routing.

My autistic 8 year old yells out in excitement on the trampoline sometimes. We do tell him not to and he only occasionally goes on there. No need for constant screaming

Wow, that's really bad! Shit parenting. Would lead to a lot of issues later in life! Also odd as kids this young generally just switch off when they need to sleep - is she up early as well, or is her schedule screwed up?

I would shout to "shut up" and start to make an absolute racket evening bang on things middle of the night.

When the neighbour has enough of the noise waking HER up, then she'll calm down on her own noise.

move, get some earplugs, close your window.?

It's not easy for a home owner to just move house and they certainly shouldn't have to use ear plugs or close their windows.

OP keep a diary of hiw often it happens and if you've any trust worthy neighbours ask those if they're being disturbed.

If it's to OTT the council will advise a recording app that you can record the noise on and then go from there.

It certainly never used to be like this, in my case because I couldn't stand my kids' noise myself! What happened to "give it a rest, " "put a sock in it," or just "be quiet!" I expect some ineffective parents will ask their children to reflect on the volume of their voices and ask the precious darlings to use their indoor voices or some such nonsense. I have three foghorn voiced kids next door, they don't scream much but they (and their gormless father) are Very Loud. Earplugs have saved my sanity and I recommend them highly.

I've a bit more patience in these cases as I always think at least their neighbours at home are having a break from it.

Ironically I have two on the spectrum myself, they were never like this, they made noise but I didn’t let them out at stupid o’clock to wake the entire street up. So them being on the spectrum isn’t an excuse that flies by me.

The woman who lives opposite should be keeping her kids indoors as no way should they be out side screaming at 06:00 that is just totally out of order.

Contact the council, fill in a log include time the noise started and duration as well as the impact it is having on you and hopefully she wil get a warning, noise abatement order.

The council will keep your name private for data protection reasons.

I get why this is annoying……I cannot stand to hear kids screaming and squealing anything other than extreme danger, my neighbours grandkids do it all the time!
It's a bit like the boy who cried wolf…….do it all too often and no one takes a blind bit of notice……then when danger strikes and a kids screams, no one takes any notice because it’s the normal way for that child to communicate.
The adults need to educate these children and I think the OP’ s best approach is to report to the council, that way there’s a formal record of a noise complaint.

Of course you’re not unreasonable. We all knkw what screaming is and kids these days seem to do it almost constantly. No way would I have allowed mine out at that time and no way they would have been allowed to screech/scream/make high pitched migraine inducing noises. Good that they are council tenants so you stand a chance or something actually being done.
