To ask which city you'd move to in England if you didn't live there already

I am thinking about it. Would prefer not London tbh although appreciate that's where the jobs are (and in some ways it's probably the easiest fit for outsiders).

Where is friendly, has stuff to do, jobs and the like. I think my answer is going to end up being Newcastle (but I like York).

Im bristolian, live outside now. No just no. Expensive, shite transport links, no decent bands ever play there, the council are dreadful....imagine you have a competitor building a complete new docks and all you have to do it straighten a bend in the river...then you own the docks and sell it for a pittance...or drive cars out of the centre of town and wonder why its dead.

London is Absolutely full of kids all the time! Just as it was 10 years ago! I should know because kids really get on my nerves 😂

I'm also baffled about you being the oldest person on the Tube.

I'm relieved you're finally thinking about moving though - but any city is going to have similar problems to what you've got now.

Cardiff - too Welsh
Worcester - too parochial
Manchester - lost Burnham
Newcastle - too far north
Edinburgh - too full of tourists
Bath - also too full of tourists
York - too wet (every time I’ve been there)
London - too up itself
Bristol - too up itself

I don’t really want to live in a city in England but if I had to I would choose Chester.

Would be tempted by Norwich if it had to be another city in England

Really don’t like York…but think this is a minority view as lots do.

I think I’d choose Nottingham. Loved my few years living there after uni. Lots going on.

i live slap bang in the middle of Cheltenham and Gloucester and would prefer to live in Gloucester than Cheltenham (and Cheltenham doesn’t fit the bill anyway as it’s a town). We lived in Cheltenham before kids and visit a lot now. It’s fine but a bit dull.

Hounslow. Preferably round the back of the Treaty Centre

I really wouldn't want to live in a city at all but if I had to then it would have to be either Newcastle (but only Jesmond or Tynemouth), Durham or Canterbury.

York, Newcastle, Sheffield

I’ve worked in all of them; lived in N & S. Would love to live in York, apart from anything else it would save me a moderately hefty commute a couple of times a week!

Love York but also have an affinity to Barnsley 😍
