Husband lying on bed in sweaty clothes

robothoover40 · 18/07/2026 13:57

Im wondering if I’m BU here as I’ve been told by my husband I am. He runs. When he runs often long runs he comes home and sits on our fabric chairs in the kitchen or goes up and lies on our bed. This morning I changed the bed put new sheets on and he come home lies on the bed whilst waiting for the water to heat up. Apparently I’m been precious.

OP posts:

Surely this is the reason we have duvet covers, sheets, pillow cases, blankets etc? So that they can get sweaty / dirty, then be taken off and washed? They're designed to get stuff on them.

In this heat my bed gets sweaty sleeping in it. I just wash my sheets more often.

Maybe OP likes one small opportunity to get in a nice clean bed after she went to the effort of changing the sheets? Not have a sweaty person drip all over them and make them smell first?

But plenty of women on the thread who get sweaty while running seem able to have the foresight to put a throw or towel down if they need to sit. It’s OP’s home too and she just changed the frickin sheets? Why should he get to be disrespectful of her wishes?

I am a woman. I don't clutter the house with throws or towels

I don't have upholstered chairs in the kitchen but no one is telling me where I am allowed or not allowed to sit in my own house! 😂

You don’t own towels? 🤔

SamAylward · 18/07/2026 19:09

Your DH is a VERY patient man.

It's his home as well as yours and frankly as such his comfort should come before your soft furnishings.

YABU.

I’d just go and shower. I’m not sure why it takes so long for water to heat up in peoples showers??

if it’s because the hot water hasn’t been on then that’s a planning issue. You know you’re going for run so put it on a boost before you go, or change the timer. Ours is on morning and evening so there’s enough hot water for everything.

if it’s because it takes 30s to go from cold to hot then just use that time to get undressed.

if I’m all sweaty i might cool down a bit outside or get a drink. But I’m not sitting on soft chairs as beds. Gross.

I’m surprised by this thread! 😂

And I’m glad I don’t live with you! Gross to sit on the bed smelly and sweaty from a run

Yeah, I’m here for the mystery of the water heating up for a hot sweaty bloke’s … what?? Bath? Shower? Cup of tea?

crazeekat · 18/07/2026 20:42

No that’s minging and disrespectful he could at least take the sweaty clothes off and sit with towel round him while he waits for water to heat up to which I’m wondering what decade do u live in?

Yeah, I think his armpits are on the bed when he's lying on the bed.

His armpits aren’t touching the bedlinen at all, unless he’s lying in a very strange position.

SquirrelGG · 18/07/2026 22:25

Oh for goodness sake! What is it with all these precious posters these days?

Eh?! Haha not sure how you lie on beds but yeah, they definitely can/do touch bed linen, especially when you pull up the duvet. Also, sweat travels, especially huge sweat patches on tops.

I know.

Sweat is 99% water and a bit of salt, and actually doesn't in itself smell.

Utterly absurd.

ThisSereneGoose · 18/07/2026 14:54

not people, the MAN. Because men are dirty (and sporty) and women are house-proud and do chores while the men do sport. Apparently. We couldn't possibly run and get sweaty ourselves!

That's what I find the most ridiculous, these horrible stereotypes.

Agreed. I’m constantly amazed by how many Mumsnetters seem to be perpetually repulsed by literally everything about the male body and seem to think men are intrinsically disgusting and smelly. God knows how these people maintain a sex life.

It reminds me of shrieking little girls at infant school screaming “Urghh, boys can’t play with us, they’re stinky”.

I’m also amazed at how many just seem to live for laundry and housework and make a rod for their own backs obsessing over it.

FWIW, in our house I’m the runner and DP does the laundry. I couldn’t even tell you how often he changes the sheets tbh. I mean, I always notice when they’re changed and I always say “Aw, thanks for doing the bed, mate” but I’m not marking the date on a calendar each time. And if he got all prissy about me flopping down on the bed after a run, I’d think he was being a tiresome fuss-pot. Fortunately he isn’t repulsed by me.

He’s not IN the bed. He’s lying ON it after a run. He’s not getting under the duvet.

Toohardtofindaproperusername · 18/07/2026 22:44

He does a long run and gets home and you think he shouldn't sit down on your fabric chairs or your bed. I think "precious" is exactly the right word.

lazyarse123 · 18/07/2026 23:05

That's grim and I'm a towel sharer. This last couple of weeks have been awful with the heat, we live in a park home and it's been boiling in here i have been sat here dripping and have been putting a towel on my chair so as to protect the fabric. I'm not particularly house proud but I don't want sweaty bodies on my furniture.

Spiffingdarling88 · 18/07/2026 23:08

Do you not have sex?

DeterminedRat · 18/07/2026 23:11

I've been sweating buckets after I run lately, I can't get straight into the shower because I keep sweating for a while afterwards and it would be pointless so I put a towel under me while I wait. If normal weather I'm not really a sweater and wouldn't bother but lately it's sweat pouring from everywhere, if your husband is like this he really should put a towel down.

Yanbu. Thats filthy

PretendToBeToastWithMe · 18/07/2026 23:57

YANBU it’s grim. I wouldn’t even want to lie my own body down on my clean bed after exercise. Straight to the shower, then he can lie around afterward!

CherryBlossom321 · 19/07/2026 00:06

I wouldn’t like it. Personally, I’d be straight into the shower. I don’t know why anyone would need to transfer sweat needlessly onto bedsheets instead of washing it off their body. Same applies to any bodily fluids, really.

SquirrelGG · 19/07/2026 00:11

I agree with this. It's like we've regressed to some earlier time where women are competing over who has the cleanest house and laundry. Some of the posts are just madness, sniping over "hygiene" and the washing of towels. Honestly, I thought we as women moved past this decades ago.
