Husband lying on bed in sweaty clothes

Im wondering if I’m BU here as I’ve been told by my husband I am. He runs. When he runs often long runs he comes home and sits on our fabric chairs in the kitchen or goes up and lies on our bed. This morning I changed the bed put new sheets on and he come home lies on the bed whilst waiting for the water to heat up. Apparently I’m been precious.

The vast majority of sweat doesn’t stink of BO either.

There are two types of sweat gland. The only ones that the produce the BO smell are the ones in the armpits and (to a much lesser extent) the groin, because they secrete fats and proteins as well as water.

The others (so the ones that make your scalp, back, chest, face etc sweat when you run) just excrete water and sodium, so that kind of sweat doesn’t smell. That’s why deodorants are designed for armpits. That’s where the BO comes from. It’s only armpit sweat that smells like that.

It's probably illogical but to me there's a difference between sweat from sleeping in your own bed, and sweat produced from running outside (and probably running through mud, dirt and whatever that gets all over you).

I’m with you OP. I sit outside to cool and get straight into the shower. Sofa, bed…ew.

Unless the Op has been indoors all day the sweat during sleep will just be mixing with all the other dirt from the Op being outdoors at a different time.

Maybe OP is like me and only gets in bed to sleep? It's not uncommon. I sit on the sofa during the day with blankets that get washed regularly but only lie on or in my bed at bedtime.

It’s grim. I get the tube twice a week and there’s no way I would sit on my bed without showering or changing clothes first. I don’t even like to sit on my sofa. It’s different if I have been in my car but even then no sweaty clothes on the bed or sofa.

But that doesn't change how much dirt you pick up during the day or how much you sweat at night. Unless you shower before bed.

It’s gross. We have a gym and dh would love to flop on the bed after a workout dripping with sweat. Not a hill he wants to die on though.

There's a difference between your "home dirt" and the muck you pick up out of the house though. I'm outdoors all day for work and come home covered in dust, dirt, muck from the pavements etc.

Yes I completely agree. But unless you shower every night before bed that muck is still being brought into the bed.

I was a runner and I think this is grim - I wouldn’t even sit on my sofa. I have sat on the front step or back garden chairs to cool down before my shower though!

Yep - which is why I shower when I get home for the day so outdoor dirt is never brought into the bed.

I'm doing life all wrong too because I vacuum my mattress and wash the topper and duvet regularly. I also don't shower my partner before sex but definitely after because he will be sweaty! Maybe more understandable as to why I wash things so often.

Couldn't care one iota if he lay on top of the bed with sweaty clothes on, just no shoes.

You are being precious @robothoover40, could maybe care a bit if DP sat his sweaty naked butt on my fabric chairs but if he wants cat hair stuck to him that's his choice.

Yeah, I think his armpits are on the bed when he's lying on the bed.

what do you do on your sofa that it needs to be sterile at all time? You survive in the tube, how would your sofa impact you if you just sat on it with clothes that have been worn during the day?

I agree that tube is grim, but there are limits. Do you make your guests shower before coming in? I don't even want to know the state of the friends my kids invite in when they rush after school and after 1 hour in the park 😂

I understand being clean, I tend to take 2 showers a day, but when it starts impacting your day to day life it's a bit much?

Surely this is the reason we have duvet covers, sheets, pillow cases, blankets etc? So that they can get sweaty / dirty, then be taken off and washed? They're designed to get stuff on them.

In this heat my bed gets sweaty sleeping in it. I just wash my sheets more often.

Don't you have a shower room in your gym?

I'm with you on this one. That is pretty discusting. My husband runs but wouldn't come in and sit on the furniture. He tends to jump straight in the shower or ask me to start running the bath taps as he's due to get back.

YANBU. I run. I put a towel on the car seat for afterwards, and I do not sit on the sofa or on the bed in sweaty clothes. If I am waiting for the water to heat up I might sit on the carpet.

Ditto.
If I'm waiting for water to heat up I'll sit on the edge of the bath. If I'm hanging around in the kitchen after a run I'll sit on a wooden chair or leather seated dining chair, not on anything upholstered.

But plenty of women on the thread who get sweaty while running seem able to have the foresight to put a throw or towel down if they need to sit. It’s OP’s home too and she just changed the frickin sheets? Why should he get to be disrespectful of her wishes?

Same. Evening showers here. Couldn’t stand going to bed with the days sweat and grub!
