I'm sick to death already of seeing Andy Burnham and hearing his voice. And he isnt even PM yet. Come back Keir Starmer. All is forgiven. I dont know how I'm going to suffer 3 or four more years of him in charge. Playing the part of the working class hero who is going to save the country. Give me strength.

Thatcher being the bogeyman is a tactic to not blame Brexit and move on.
All will be fine if Mahmood is in charge of the purse. As long as strong women get in and actually rule the puppet strings, it will work out. Burnham can chat until the cows come home with lofty ideas and long term plans and a bit of feel good.

It comes down to how they want to close the gap between top and bottom

lifting people up is great - you lift the top a little and the bottom disproportionately more

but the current angle seems to be just to push the top down.

i don’t actually mind if I pay more tax as long as it isn’t a new expensive to introduce and administer tax and yet another admin burden. Our system is over complicated and bulky. I would support a simplification drive

there was an interesting radio program and the swede they spoke to found the VAT system bizarrely over complicated as they have a very simple system - no court cases to determine if it’s a Jaffa cake or biscuit!!!

At Holyrood someone always takes pity on the future FM and runs against them in the leadership contest for the illusion of legitimacy, no matter how much support the front-runner seems to have internally. It's just polite. How is this man supposed to interact with other heads of government when they're all thinking he carpetbagged his way out of nowhere (sorry, Mancunians, but it's no London or Glasgow) and got the PM position handed to him for no reason anyone can articulate?

Sitting in a heatwave sandwich - will be keen to see if he's brave on the environment and makes Ed Miliband chancellor. If he sees net zero as non urgent - then he's not for me. Food inflation is going to go wild next year which they are predicting will be even hotter and hit farming.

He does seem a bit like he thinks he's epic. But trying to hold judgement until I see what he does.

Probably right on the council housing the amount we are all paying that goes through housing benefit to private landlords is eye watering.
