And the denial within society isn’t helpful

FrustratedApples · 14/07/2026 16:32

If you mean middle aged, I'd say that starts in your mid 40s or so. Probably mid 40s to 60ish.

wheresmeaircon · 14/07/2026 16:32

TheIdlerReturns · 14/07/2026 16:28

I'm guessing from your user name that you're meaning age. These days 60 is probably middle-aged. The goal posts keep moving. What is society in denial about?

No 60 isn’t middle aged.

wheresmeaircon · 14/07/2026 16:33

then whatever we want to call the other bit when in your sixties and seventies.

Why has old become a dirty word?

Nopuedeser · 14/07/2026 16:35

Well you can’t mean middle aged, because obviously the average life expectancy isn’t 60. So what do you mean by ‘middle’?

Hellohelga · 14/07/2026 16:36

Middle aged is whenever you lose the ability to finish a

Minasama · 14/07/2026 16:36

I think it depends on your lifestyle and demographic. I think the average British woman now lives to either 84 or 87?

I’m 50 and 30 looks young from here - really young. But I have tweens and some people have those at 30, albeit most likely without senior-level international career experience as well. I grew up through both my professional and my marital/family experience. I had some of the professional experience at 30, marriage and family came several years later.

I weighed more than a stone less as well!

I swear we have this exact thread every few months.

Fifthtimelucky · 14/07/2026 16:38

I definitely didn’t feel middle aged at 40 as I had two pre-school children.

I’m now 65, happy to be middle-aged, and don’t plan to be old until I’m in my 80s.

Yes. The one with the age gap relationship as well.

hugasaurus · 14/07/2026 16:39

I don’t think you can be middle-aged and simultaneously a total normal age for giving birth nowadays. Maybe in the 1500s.

Not finishing a sentence isn't helpful

I don't think an OP which is so brief and non-explanatory deserves all these replies.

LilyBunch25 · 14/07/2026 16:41

You've already got a thread on this pointless non-issue. Find something else to do.

OP doesn't know what they mean. They've got another thread running on pretty much the same non subject, they hardly post, they are merely bored or slightly askew.

Middle aged?
Mid life = Middle of your life.
Average life expectancy for women in the uk = 83.
83÷2 = 41.5
You hit your 40s as a woman in the uk and you are middle aged.

Globally the average life expectancy generally is 73.8 years.
73.8÷2= 36.9.
Getting closer
But globally for women specifically?
76.4.
76.4÷2= 38.4
Back up a bit again

So yeah, I'm going with Middle aged = 40.
Its a nice round number.

Dillydollydingdong · 14/07/2026 16:44

So in my mind I'm middle aged... how old am I?

50s-60s ish?

BauhausOfEliott · 14/07/2026 16:47

This again?

Tableforjoan · 14/07/2026 16:48

I’d say Middle Aged is 35-45.

Giving a life expectancy of 70-90.

But you’ll get 50-60 year olds telling you they are middle aged like they are going to live to 100-120 🤣

HappiestSleeping · 14/07/2026 16:49

30 is definitely in the middle of the amount of cups of tea I have per day ☕️

Boreded · 14/07/2026 16:49

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 14/07/2026 15:15

Why are you so obsessed with 30 being middle aged? You posted similar the other day. It’s a bit odd you’re so concerned about it.

you can think of it as middle aged if you like. You don’t seem to be able to take reasonable viewpoints on board so I’m not sure there’s much point trying to convince you otherwise

Because her 23 year old (birthday was today) is dating a 29 year old, and she isn’t happy about it. She will be back soon with a post about her daughter going non-contact ORRRRRRR saying the boyfriend is abusing her by isolating her from her mum (when she clearly is pushing her daughter away)

amber763 · 14/07/2026 16:50

60 is very young to plan on dying

Aren't you the person who described your 23 year old daughter's 29 year old boyfriend as 'middle aged'?
