Filling a pool. it will take the exact same amount to fill using a bucket or hose unless you give up.

For a given value of "fill". If you have to hand fill it, you might decide you're happy for it to be an inch shallower. That could be a hundred litres less used.

so not everyone on benefits then because you do know there are some ppl on benefits without kids who live in sweatbucket tiny flats and dont have a garden anyway.

The hosepipe ban should apply to everyone or no-one. There should be no exemption for those on benefits.

It is only a hosepipe ban though, you can still use water in a bucket etc to fill a pool, or water plants. Not sure anyone will be policing this though.

You could still have exemptions for people who need lots of water for whatever reason.

Maybe ppl should see it as payback for poorer ppl who had to endure lockdowns and Covid restrictions Twasnt the poor who kept going on those ski trips in Feb/March 2020 when Covid was well known about and yet they had to endure the restrictions along with everyone else so if LBC want to discuss two tier,,,,,,,😑

Its quite abused. My friend is on this because her son has adhd. They have absolutely no need to use a hosepipe more than anyone else during a water shortage. One can only assume the water companies are deliberately relaxed about it to keep some revenue coming in while reducing usage overall - note that you have to be on a meter. They want to limit the people on standing charge as this reduces costs with no hit on their revenues.

Shame on you. How can you begrudge allowing people living in difficult circumstances (eg disability) to continue making their lives a little easier/safer.

On this basis I shall continue to water my lawn and my pollinators - my resident daughter is both a PIP recipient and a blue badge holder so we are exempt. I wasn’t going to make use of her exemption but, given my DH pays a six figure tax sum every year to subsidise all those benefits, spent a fortune in money and all his leisure time for years building and maintaining our garden, I am now of the fuck’em mindset.

I wouldn't take too much notice. They think that women should be sterilised before they are able to claim benefits.

Maybe seek out the facts? If you must proffer an opinion, make it an informed one.

My water company is asking us to think carefully about the amount we use (ie use less) and to try not to waste water. We have also been sent suggestions about reusing greywater, not running the tap for ages and other avoidable things.

No actually - I checked it out on the actual websites, including my own water supplier (who has not implemented a ban yet). Like I say …. Our household is already exempt so compliance would be completely voluntary.
