Tbh I think any company that adopts this policy will be doing it because non-compliance is largely unenforceable without considerable cost - and where you are dealing with a benefit claimant on an adjusted tariff what is the chances you would get a fine paid? The whole system operates on goodwill - or rather social fear. It relies on the idea that people don’t want to be caught and judged by their neighbours, or reported by them. However, once the consensus has drifted to people feeling either too aggrieved or just indifferent, it loses its power.

My area has announced a ‘red’ alert. Yet I hear and see everyone watering their plants daily despite the almost daily emails exhorting us not to and bragging about how much headway they have made fixing leaks. So no one seems at all bothered and will definitely not be reporting anyone.

Fortunately, drip-fed systems are exempt (we have this around the whole of our garden borders). So I shall do as everyone else is doing, which is try to water the lawn enough to keep it sufficiently alive until a ban is actually announced. Am hoping I don’t have to make the choice to comply or not - because for us it is a choice as, for once, we actually have the advantage of being exempt due to a blue badge holder.

So let's take a look at who is exempt from the ban and why, and when this "two-tier" situation came about (spoiler - it's nothing new!)

We should all be in this together to save water apart from people who have mobility struggles not necessarily people on benefits

You’re all genuinely thick. People on the watersure scheme have physical disabilities requiring more water eg. Stomas, incontinence etc. if you’re genuinely begrudging them being allowed to water their plants (unable to carry watering cans) or cleaning wheelchair wheels down before entering their home, you’re awful.

If she’s got a blue badge she’d likely be exempt and able to go on the priority services register.

It’s nuts. I’m disabled, but I don’t need to fill paddling pools or over use water. 🙄
