It's got nothing to do with the government, it's a scheme run by the water companies themselves. I would direct your anger at the sheer greed and incompetence of the water companies who are merrily lining the pockets of shareholders and giving fat cat executives obscene salaries whilst pumping raw sewage into our waterways and presiding over a system not fit for purpose.

If there was a genuine water shortage they’d be rationing water, asking us to use less, halting new AI data centres etc etc. They are simply saying not to use a hosepipe. You can still fill a pool with a bucket and use the same amount of water as if you used a hose. It’s got people arguing over a ridiculous issue!

Exactly. The council paddling pools would be closed. The allotments water supplies would be off at the mains.

And tin foil hat those of us on smart meters shown to use a lot would have our pressure cut if that’s possible. I know they can drop pressure for entire areas so maybe individual houses.

A hosepipe used LOADS more than needed. I wash my car with 3 buckets of water. I bet a hose uses about 20 times that.
We are not in a water crisis. If all the hp owners reduce their usage it’s less likely we will reach a stage where we really are rationed.

l’m old enough to remember the sustained heatwave in 1976. There was a water shortage as a result. There were fines for being caught watering your garden regardless of what method you used and in many areas mains supplies were staggered and you had to queue at stand pipes.

You should be pissed off with hosepipe ban fullstop. We don't have one in our area and haven't since 1976. It's bullshit.

Because a hose DOES use far more water than using a watering can. Apart from using more water than needed on individual flowers or pots, there's the fact that the hose continues to use water while walking between pots etc, whereas you're not going to do that with a watering can or bucket. So the ban encourages people fo use more efficient methods.

Yes, but that one is obvious.

I agree about using more in general however.

Filling a pool. it will take the exact same amount to fill using a bucket or hose unless you give up.

Watering plants you can with a spray nozzle stop spraying while walking In between.

However I do agree you are likely to give the plant more water while hosing than using a can as it will give more water faster.

Funny enough our water company said we can use a hose to fill our watering cans or buckets. So I can stand in my garden next to my pool spray nozzle my watering can. Empty into pool and repeat as much as I want I don’t even have to move back and forth between the tap and pool.
