I’m not in a banned area yet, but was for the most part of last year.

I will mainly just ignore it 🤷‍♀️

They have also decided I need a water meter…despite not being able to fit one as I have no stop tap as I come off a farm supply and our waste is a septic tank.

They have known we don’t have enough resources/pumping stations or backup stations for years and would much rather pay their shareholders a small fortune than look into way to invest the infrastructure…they also dump all the shit from the new housing developments into the local river

We don't have one where I am, but we wouldn't waste water anyway.

Although nearly all of us waste good drinking water on flushing the loo. We all need rainwater harvesting systems but goodness knows how much it would cost to retrofit them.

@HosePipeNoMore absolutely I will not get a watering can out! I put the sprinkler on for its usual half an hour and I honestly couldn’t care less what you - or anyone else - thinks about that.

I’m exempt from the ban

I don’t have children.
I don’t have a paddling pool.
Our car is washed very rarely at a car wash.
I don’t use AI.
We only have a shower, no bath, and take short showers.
We are very conscious about water usage.
When I do water my garden, I do it about once or twice week at the most in those heatwaves, only late in the evening. I have planted sustainably and chosen drought resistant plants and trees as much as I could.

If there is a hosepipe ban, I will struggle very much to justify complying, when I see the utterly stupid wasting of water all around me by the council (leaks that take weeks to fix), and other people (bubble bath fiends, paddling pool enthusiasts, hot tub owners, ChatGPT users)

Hosepipe or watering can I’d use the same amount of water as I would only water the plants/trees that need it, ie young ones, or not drought tolerant. So a watering can would just make it a million times slower for me, while using the same amount of water. Hosepipe bans are more for those who turn on the hose and let their garden soak for ages. If that’s the case then yes it’s selfish to use such vast amounts of water.

But a hosepipe can also be used sparingly and sensibly as well as economically, it’s not a magic water overconsumption machine.

@HosePipeNoMore apart from the hosepipe obsession, do you do anything else to reduce your water consumption? Or is it all AI during the day and a nice soak in the bathtub in the evening, after sanctimonious watering can usage in the garden? Are you using the Eco modes of your washing machine and dishwasher? Do you collect any of the water as you’re waiting for the hot water to come through in the shower, and use it on your plants?

Erm OP, I just wanted to bring something to your urgent attention - there is another thread running, enquiring how MNers gardens are coping with the heat.

I am confident that there may be some hosepipe ban breachers on there, who require policing and the requisite opprobrium.

I will stick to it. I am not sure if there is one where I live. I have not had a text or email from my supplier. I did have one in the June heatwave saying water use should be for essential reasons only, and that was because they could not meet treat water fast enough to meet demand.

I don't really understand people saying that leaks etc is a justification for flaunting any restrictions. You are just adding to the problem.

My point is that if enough people disobey them, they’ll have to do something. At the moment when people follow along like sheep it means they don’t have to solve the actual problem

My supplier have been fixing leaks though.
But the restrictions I had last month was because they could not treat water fast enough to meet demand. I don't think that makes me a sheep.

46 billion litres a day are wasted. They have the capability to ensure they can meet demand. They choose not to.
