There are so many loopholes and exemptions, a ban is almost meaningless.

No it isn't. A hosepipe ban reduces demand by 3-10% which isn't nothing. If that's not enough then further restrictions kick in, mainly affecting businesses.

You’d have to have an absolutely humongous garden to be watering plants for over 14 mins. Ours is a decent size and it takes me about a minute and a half to water it with a hose (we don’t have a hosepipe ban so everyone can calm down 😉).
On the other hand my disabled child showers for up to an hour as it’s the only thing that regulates him. Dread to think how much water that is.

Businesses should be affected first.

Namely, the water companies. Who should be forced to use their money to pay for upgrades to the network instead of paying dividends.

I do abide by the ban but begrudgingly since southern water flooded our road and my garage when a major pipe burst that had been reported several times. We could not leave our road other than on foot as it’s a single track dead end. When asked about the damage from 6 inches of water they said that it was our problem and their legal team would fight any claim. Then they paid bonus’s.

It takes 38 10litre watering cans to water our flowers so 380 litres of water a day 😳

So more than double the average water consumption for a household on your flowers alone.
At least you don’t use your hose though, eh?

We stick to it. Using water freely is such a privilege but some people are not even aware of it. My 7 yests old understands why we can't fill her little paddling pool so I think most adults with reasonable intelligence can manage too.

I use 4 lots of 10 litre cans at the moment. I have some veg plants, acers, cordyline and a few potted flowers.
Oh, and I am stingy with watering them anyway. I am on a meter.
During the winter, my average use is about 40litres a day.

DM has 2 allotment plots and they are not allowed to use hope pipes at all. During the summer, she spends about 2 hours watering it all. I would rather just buy my veg than have to do all that 😂

To be absolutely honest, I do stick to it as I don’t want my neighbours to think I’m awful.
Our surrounding farms have reservoirs too and I can see how low or even empty they are. And how they started using them earlier in the year than before.

We only have a really grotty shower room atm so I don’t use that at all.

Are private schools exempt, we park near one for our dog walk at the weekend and they had sprinkles on their massive sport field. Why if the school is finished for the summer are they watering it. Sure they may have summer fixes but I think those sort of establishments should be made to be a bit more careful, not your average small gardener
