I'm half Scottish (dad) so always support both. In the past I'd probably want Scotland to win if it was them against England to be honest. Although now because of the Argentina support I'm going off supporting Scotland.

I desperately want England to win this one more than against any other team.

But really, I’d support England, maybe, They used to play like thugs..perhaps they’re better now. . I like underdogs to win in a way, but my money is on Argentina

Honestly, people in England, supporting England, have no idea what it’s like. I pay my licence fee, just like you do, but when England are competing, particularly in football, I have to listen to how whatever result, right from the play offs, effects England, a country I do not reside in. You have no idea.

The biased commentary, on both channels, is infuriating. It is hard to describe how it makes you feel both annoyed and sidelined at the same time. The only commentator I like hearing from is Ian Wright, it feels like he respects Scotland a bit and is able to view what Scotland is doing without an English biased lens.

I find the whole 'Anyone But England' thing really baffling. Or at least I did, until my sister pointed out that since the Hand of God, most English are 'Anyone but Argentina'.
I asked our Scottish priest who he'd be supporting on Wednesday, and he said he had no choice but to support Argentina 'in memory of Pope Francis' 😂

I quoted Billy Connolly on another similar thread. Apparently he said 'It's a waste of time hating England because they don't care'. It seems to be your fellow Scots who get more irritated by it

From what I've seen, Argentina are the most loathed team in the competition. The other South American countries can't seem to stand them. They are even making England look popular by comparison, so let them have the Scots at least.

It is a cliche but let’s hope the best team wins. I’m not an expert but I have read that Argentinian footballers play dirty. If that’s true, I wouldn’t want them to win against any nation. Again I don’t know a great deal of detail but most of these England players seem like a decent bunch? They don’t seem to be particularly arrogant or unpleasant, but maybe there are stories I don’t know about.

There is such intense xenophobia and pettiness on both sides on this thread. Thank goodness I don’t see it in real life. And my social media algorithms just show all the heartwarming stories from this year’s World Cup. Much nicer!

The excitement here for matches is infectious - I've never been into football much but it's hard to ignore it.

I have always supported them on the Las Malvinas (Falklands) issue, which is the main cause of friction for them with England - and in my opinion, understandably so.

And just to educate you - do you realise a large proportion of servicemen who died in the Falklands were Scottish? The Argentinians obviously did not care they were Scottish or English.
So if you want to bring the Falklands into it, maybe spare a thought for the Scottish families too.

The vast majority of Argentineans would agree that the war was wrong. It was carried out by a very repressive military regime that disappeared thousands of innocent Argentineans - often kidnapping them from their homes in the middle of the night never to be seen again. There are thousands of mothers who never saw their children again, never found out what happened to them, and died without justice. Still today there are people who were forcibly taken from their mother at birth, 'adopted', and have never been told the truth about their identity. It was a truly awful regime - and the impact is still felt here today.

There are always two sides to every story, and the reality is often far more complicated than it first appears.

None of that changes the fact that Las Malvinas should be under the jurisdiction of Argentina, rather than a British colony.

But why? It’s not a vote - it doesn’t matter at all who anyone is supporting. The players will do whatever and someone will win regardless of what I think in Scotland.

People support teams for all sorts of reasons and if always supporting the opponent of a team is your thing that’s just as valid as rooting for England because they are the country that borders you. Why is that relevant? I liked Norway’s fans so enjoyed watching them. I do not tend to enjoy watching England’s fans so don’t feel any connection to the team.

You can try - but the Scots hate the English so they will support literally anyone except the English. I hope Argentina loses because i cant stand Messi and how this is rigged for them to win, if the English dont win, (and the French beat Spain) I hope the french tear Argentina apart 😂

Most English people, that I know, do actually. But I hardly know any English people who don't have a Scottish, Welsh, Irish or another nationality parent or grandparent. Part of history is that people don't stay put.
