Aibu thinking Scots shouldn't be wanting Argentina to win against England?

Engerlund · 13/07/2026 18:49

It's getting beyond banter now imo.

I know plenty of Scots agree with me.

I'm half Scottish (dad) so always support both. In the past I'd probably want Scotland to win if it was them against England to be honest. Although now because of the Argentina support I'm going off supporting Scotland.

I desperately want England to win this one more than against any other team.

That’s the problem wasn’t it.
And now she is living in England. Couldn’t wait to leave.

I have noticed this about people in England, they tie the whole of Scotland, or even just the independence movement to one person. You're obsessed with Nicola Sturgeon. It would be like judging every English person, the England football team, or it's desire for maintaining the union, on just Nigel Farage, and his 5 million pound donation, or just Keir Starmer and his flip flopping on every issue.

Think your getting mixed up with the sheer amount of posters you’re insulting.

No, I've queried your passive aggressive views and the other fierce anti English hate. Do you mean football banter like looking forward to the England game?

She’ll be back. Your xenophobia and misogyny however can stay down there. 👍

What’s your national anthem?

if you don’t know that, I suggest you discover AI.
Has it reached up there?

A bit like the millions of people who've moved out of England to Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Spain and so on. They must have seen that same light.

I feel like I am in a minority. It would be great if England won! I live here and we need something good to happen. But I am fine with any other team winning, providing they are not nasty/racist/violent, play fair, and there is no corruption involved. I would be excited for another home nation to win too and would feel proud.

I love a good-natured tournament and have enjoyed the many heartwarming moments from this World Cup. Of course it’s competitive and there has to be passion and rivalry. But I cannot relate to the unpleasantness on this thread at all.

Considering the sheer amount of anti Scottish posts from you, you’re not doing a great job showing how much you don’t care. 🤣

Having lived there I am in a position to comment.
where have you lived in England?
Or anywhere else?
Have lived in many difficult countries, but Scotland was the only one which was awful. Racism beyond imagination.

"Racism beyond imagination"
Coming from Farage Land, that's an interesting take.

Seriously, who cares if Scotland fans want or don’t want England to win.

The Scots (and Welsh) are completely obsessed with England and our football team. The press are obsessed with their fans. They only have to smile and it makes the front pages. Pissed up Scotland fans falling asleep in some poor Yanks garden - the press celebrate it like it’s something really cute. If they raised a bit of money for a charity, you’d think they had cured cancer (btw England do this at every tournament and some qualifiers - but the press rarely say anything - except for Portugal in 2004)

I was delighted when Scotland lost and got sent home, was sick of hearing about them.

Now it’s Englands turn and if the Scots don’t like it, they can shove their haggis up their bloody kilt 😂😂😂

I have Scottish family and friends and we wind each other up all the time about the above.

Exactly. My partner's a Scot living in England for years. He gives and takes stick in the pub with his English mates. But then they've all got a SOH. He'll be there tonight wanting England to win because he's not a misery guts.

oops my bad. I must have misunderstood when I saw the news stating his party was the most popular party in England, by a significant margin.

"Says the country with the Anti English SNP in government."
You're absolutely right. Having a government that wants Scotland to be able to manage its own affairs, instead of the UK government, must make it anti-English, if the English perspective is that it deserves to control Scotland.

"Sorry, remind me where you have lived in England?"
I could make something up, like you probably have, to make a useless point, but honestly? I don't have it in me to claim I've lived there. 😅

"Because Inverness makes Blackpool look like the Provence…."

It does? On what matric? Inverness has a much higher GDP, and much lower crime. Inverness is one of the safest cities in the UK.

Ah but I have lived and worked in Aberdeen.

I was a senior sister in ARI.
My husband was a drilling manager.

Aberdeen? So not Inverness?
"I have experienced your world"
You claim to have experienced living in Aberdeen, not my "world".
If I lived in Hackney, England, for a while, can I claim to have "lived in your world" too?

"I was a senior sister in ARI.

OK? Good for you?

failing education

rising taxes

To be fair, I'm English and I'd support pretty much anyone over Scotland. So it cuts both ways.
