Middle age has to start at some point and seven years is a big gap depending on where it is. If it was say a 30 year old and 37 year old there would be no worry

Yes it does but that start is not 29.

Just stop.

You are being absolutely ridiculous.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with 22 and 29 or 23 and 30.

They are both way over the legal age of consent. They are both adults.

Wiennetta · 13/07/2026 20:36

I was 24 when I met DH, he was 30. That was 15 years ago 😂 I don’t think it’s a massive age gap. I was working in a professional role and living independently etc.

UnicornPug · 13/07/2026 20:49

I was 23 and my husband was 31 when we met. I turned 24 before he turned 32 if that helps. We got married within 2 years of meeting and have recently celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary. Our daughter is 20 and a) we wouldn’t think twice about her dating someone 8 years older and b) we don’t police her dating life even if we did have an opinion. She’s an adult and we trust her to pick someone she likes.

Bonkers1966 · 13/07/2026 20:58

He is not middle aged.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 13/07/2026 21:16

I’m 26 years older than the ‘middle-aged’ man and I’m not ready to refer to myself as middle-aged yet…

"Middle age has to start at some point" What?! What does that even, actually mean??

LilyBunch25 · 13/07/2026 21:23

Honestly, this really is one of the most ridiculous threads ever.

Housebashing · 13/07/2026 21:26

Well, he’s got 33% more life on her so that is quite a significant percentage
Is he a nice person?

TrishM80 · 13/07/2026 21:29

This thread has got to be a wind up.

I saw it because they are taking the piss on Tattle. 😂

shockmethen · 13/07/2026 21:56

For the love of god. I dated a 30 year old when I was 22. It was not weird

sugarapplelane · 13/07/2026 13:34

How old are you Op? Middle aged? I’m 51 which is middle aged. 29 is still a spring chicken.

I think this is a wind up

Well it has worked but I'd only give the o.p 3/10 for not really following up in the comments. Should have researched qhat tv programs or music a 29 year old would know and a 22 year old wouldn't

Yeah, “middle aged” starts roughly 45-55 according to most, not late 20’s you absolute cockwomble.

the Cambridge Dictionary describes middle age as between 45-60.

EmeraldDreams73 · 13/07/2026 22:40

So a 7 year age gap. I thought you were going to say she was 16 and he was 45.

Dh is 7 years older than me. My dad is 9 years older than my mum. My friend is 13 years younger than her husband. As adults it's about personality and whether they're a good fit for each other.

What utter rubbish.

Middle aged DOES NOT START AT 30!

You're going on as if DD is a child.

She's not.

FallenNight · 13/07/2026 11:52

She is a grownup a 22 year old woman dating a 29 year old man. This should not be a big news story in your life. I am glad everything else is going so smoothly for you.

This
Bloody hell

JFDIYOLO · 14/07/2026 00:29

How old are you, op?

DoNoTakeNo · 14/07/2026 00:39

At 25 I was in a relationship with a 50yo man. He was joyful, funny, sexy, intelligent. We moved on elsewhere, such is life; I’ll never forget him. That was an example of a young DD dating a middle aged man, and it was absolutely nothing for my DM to have worried about. Your situation? Nowt at all to raise even the slightest concern over- they’re less than 8 years apart! It is how they treat each other that matters. Please don’t express your anxieties to your DD about her relationship, just build on your relationship & be there for her as she enjoys her own life.

Wordsmithery · 14/07/2026 01:05

FFS. You ok, OP?----

Livinthedrama · 14/07/2026 01:15

Get a fucking grip.

Howmanycatsistoomany · 14/07/2026 01:21

He's only 7 years older than her. Get a grip OP!

SquirrelGG · 14/07/2026 02:23

You are being ridiculous - and no, 30 is far from being "middle aged".
