I too am dating a middle aged 30 yo and strongly recommend it.

tsmainsqueeze · 13/07/2026 15:16

You are absolutely unreasonable ! he's a young man !!!!

ginasevern · 13/07/2026 15:17

I thought you were going to say he was 50! He's only 7 years older than her and still very much in the same sort of ball park age bracket. So he's not looking for a nurse maid and he's hardly a cradle snatcher. Bloody hell OP.

Sgtmajormummy · 13/07/2026 15:29

At 23 I was dating a 30 year old man.
Now my husband of 31 years. Absolutely nothing wrong with it and, from my experience of other couples, a very good age gap to have.

ChamonixMountainBum · 13/07/2026 11:52

I was expecting her to be dating a 50something year old man based on that thread title.

Me too .

MyOliveCritic · 13/07/2026 15:40

Must be a joke ! Like lots of others I thought he must be at least 50 ! Ridiculous !

Dogstar78 · 13/07/2026 15:42

One poster has made a good point about maturity. My 23 niece has two kids, a partner and a mortgage. That is the sort of life she wanted and it makes her happy. Long haul flights, ridulous quantities of shoes and 3 day party weekends made me happy at 23.

I am now with someone who is 7 years older. It is nothing, but can be a reach if one partner is either very immature or mature when you are both younger. If he is respectful, looks after her and supports her with her ambitions, that would make me happy.

Support the relationship and let her know you are there for her. So, if it is not right she can come to you and not feel she has to lie in the bed she made. I see why you feel uncomfortable but our kids will make their own choices that might be different to choices we would make.

The only thing I would have my eye on is an older partner with kids and my daughter being taken advantage of. This is currently happening to my partner's daughter. Not that it matters, but it is a same sex relationship. I wanted to make a point that this dynamic can occur in other blended family scenarios.

Sassylovesbooks · 13/07/2026 15:44

Ermmm....he's 29 (nearly 30) not 50!! He's 7 years older than her, not 17 or 27 years older!

When I was 24, I was in a relationship with a 31 year old, exactly the same age gap as your daughter and her boyfriend. Mine, turned out to be an arsehole, but his age didn't make him an arsehole, his personality did!

Unless 30, has been mistyped twice, and this man is indeed 49 (nearly 50), then I don't think you have too much to worry about!

Marieb19 · 13/07/2026 15:45

Yes, you are being unreasonable. He is not even 7 years older than her.

hourglass2 · 13/07/2026 15:47

If he was 39 then yes I would agree with you but 29? Not ideal but I couldn't get too bothered about it

icingonmycupcake · 13/07/2026 15:48

Is this a wind up? If not then get a grip. 🙄

Bamboozledbylife · 13/07/2026 15:48

Yabu

Frazzled89 · 13/07/2026 15:50

Is this a joke? You'd be upset my age gap marriage then, met when it as 24 and he was 40. 22 and 29 isn't that far apart at all. Are there other reasons why you dislike the match?

nam3c4ang3 · 13/07/2026 15:50

Fucking hell - this thread is ridiculous OP 😂 - what is wrong with you?!

Loub1987 · 13/07/2026 16:01

If 29 is middle aged, I’m 37 what does that make me?! Elderly? I feel it but the label isn’t nice 😂

JulietteHasAGun · 13/07/2026 16:10

So she’s dating someone six years older? So what? When I was her age I was dating someone 14 years older and I married him!

I dated a 30 year old man when I was 19 but he was bossy so I ditched him. No harm done.

AprilMizzel · 13/07/2026 16:14

He's 29 and she's 22 - so 7 and a bit years age difference - that's hardly huge only bit more than more usual 1-4 years.

Maturity wise they may well match - honestly though at 22 you don't get a to say who they date - and less emphasis on age and more do they treat each other well.

Plus ealiest most people thing of as middle age is 35 - and my IL when they were hitting fifty were insiting they were only just becoming middle aged and many agreed with them.

ForeverNowWithin · 13/07/2026 16:20

30 isn't middle aged, don't be so ridiculous. In fact 30 is the new 23. And 23 is the new 18.

wishingonastar101 · 13/07/2026 16:20

omg he's old enough to be her father... oh no wait he's really not.

Vaxtable · 13/07/2026 16:27

Middle Ages is 40-65!

Middle aged man?????? You need to grow up.

inkgirl · 13/07/2026 16:34

30 is not middle aged. That age gap isn't bad. There's 8 years between me and my boyfriend. Its all about connection and how well they get on. If they are arguing all the time then yea thats an issue, if not then dont really see the problem
