She dating a 30 year old he’s 30 late July and she’s 22 23 one Tuesday. He’s middle aged and she’s still so young

I think you’re being ridiculous - seven years is not a significant age difference once you’re an adult. I had several relationships with age gaps of between 4 and 10 years before I met my husband and I only ever had one boyfriend who was the same age as me - I always expected an absolute minimum age difference of at least three years, preferably more.

Cue all the “30 is not middle aged!” comments.

I like how you mention he’s 30 in July like that makes a difference. He’s not a toddler who’s “2, but 3 in July”

Edited

This made me chuckle! 😆

Wetblanket78 · 13/07/2026 14:39

Thought you were going to say he’s in his 50’s. Ffs 29 isn’t middle aged. A lot of women have relationships with men a few years older than.

WonderWeeksArentReal · 13/07/2026 14:40

I met DH when I was 23 and he was 30. We've been together over 15 years and still going strong. When we met he was a much better catch than all the guys my own age (still is in many ways).

myglowupera · 13/07/2026 14:40

She’s old enough to make valid choices that suit her without having to manage people’s feelings about it. She’s an adult, stop infantilising her.

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 13/07/2026 14:33

I’m devastated to learn I’m elderly in my late 30’s

OP will be much older so don’t feel too bad 😂

Bookoftheyear · 13/07/2026 14:41

I’m no fan of big age gaps - I’ve known too many bad/tragic/unpleasant ones among friends, family and colleagues but this would not worry me (unless there are other red flags or complicating factors (not quite ex- wives, 6 children, serious health issues) I thought you were going to say that your teenage daughter was going out with a man in his late forties.

BlossomingSlowly · 13/07/2026 14:42

This is wild hahahaha. I was 21 when I met my 30 year old partner. Nearly a decade later and we’re homeowners and soon to be married

I met my DH when I was 22 and he was 30.

We are still happily married 40 years later

BuntyBeaufort · 13/07/2026 14:42

To echo others, don’t be bloody ridiculous.
DH and I were 21 & 29 respectively when we met, and have been together now for over 40 years. To make matters even worse I was the elder, and divorced to boot.
Get a fucking grip.

Wow. Just wow. Your ridiculousness left me speechless.

Saltysweetspicy · 13/07/2026 14:45

If it was daughter and she was happy and most importantly he treated her well then no I wouldn't be upset.

Is it JUST the age thing upsetting you?

SleepingStandingUp · 13/07/2026 14:46

from your user name, I assume YOU'RE middle aged, born in 77 so you're 49. old enough to be this guys mother. if he's middle aged , what does that make you? if they're both young enough to be your kids, the age gap is fine. also, 30/2+7 is 22 so he's fine

Kokonimater · 13/07/2026 14:47

Oh dear. Stop it. This is so controlling. She’s 23!!!

SemperIdem · 13/07/2026 14:55

I thought you were going to say he was 55!

YABU and weird.

MyDeftDuck · 13/07/2026 14:57

29 middle aged???? FFS that makes my daughter geriatric! Get a grip OP!

Whatwerewetalkingabout · 13/07/2026 14:59

This has got to be a wind up. I was expecting you to say your 18 year old was dating a 50 year old not your 23 year old is dating a 30 year old.... A 7 year age gap is totally acceptable, Christ right now they're both in their 20s. Noone's middle aged in this scenario or has an innapropriate, eyebrow raising age gap. Absolutley batshit. 😂

Steeleydan · 13/07/2026 14:59

Ffs,I thought you was going to say her was 55! Its only 8 years difference, I had boyfriends 8 years older than me when I was 19,so what. Give you head a wobble, first world problems!

Downatthebeach · 13/07/2026 14:59

OP - Seriously, are you for real?? Since when has 29 been middle aged?? When I was 19 I was dating a 31 yr old man.

When I was 20 I met a 28yr old & married him a few months later just after I turned 21. We are still married 55 yrs later and we refer to ourselves as ‘Upper Middle Aged’ Now 76 & 84 yrs young.
Your DD is old enough to make her own decisions about who she dates. Stop being a ‘helicopter’ parent.

Scarlettpixie · 13/07/2026 15:00

Why on earth is this a problem? 7 years is not a big age gap! You sound a bit insane OP.

Pinkgin00 · 13/07/2026 15:04

This has to be rage bait

30 year old middle aged 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

MajorProcrastination · 13/07/2026 15:08

I'm solidly in the "29 is not middle aged" camp. I'm 43 and I don't consider myself to be middle aged yet!

That's distracting us though.

So the real question is how we feel about the age gap between a 22 year old and a 29 year old. I can't get riled up about this one. They're both adults. If the 7 year age gap went the other way to 15 then yes I'd be phoning the police but if it went the other way again and the older person was 36 I'd be like "OK, what's the issue?".

At 22 and 29 most people are in full time employment, still making their way through the world, finding their career, maybe moving around or travelling, perhaps they're in long term relationships or dating, perhaps they're talking about kids and weddings and mortgages or perhaps they're talking about doing a masters and emigrating to Canada or living in a house-share or who knows.

I think your post says more about how you see your child as a child than how society sees adults in their twenties.

Delphiniumandlupins · 13/07/2026 15:09

6 or 7 year age gap between them then.

DinoLil · 13/07/2026 15:09

29 isn't middle aged!!!
