Misread the thread title as "my dad" and thought well, that's a bit homophobic of you but maybe it was a shock... slightly disappointed now tbh.

clearlyy · 13/07/2026 13:47

What the hell are you talking about? I’m 30 and not middle aged. He’s 29 for gods sake. I can’t tell whether this is rage bait or you need to get a grip. That is not a big age gap at all.

DH was 29 when we met, I was 19 and my Mum was less than impressed I have to say. I was a young 19, he was running his own business and had his own house. She felt that I'd miss out on certain experiences by going out with someone who'd already done what I hadn't.

She was entirely right, I so wish I'd listened.

You were 4 years younger than this woman is. That’s half the age gap again!

topcat2014 · 13/07/2026 13:48

I would be upset too. Big age and life experience.

LilyBunch25 · 13/07/2026 13:49

He's not middle aged. Don't be ridiculous.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 13/07/2026 13:51

This is at least the second time you’ve posted about this, you did it in April and everyone laughed at you then as well.

aintnospringchicken · 13/07/2026 13:51

Get a grip on yourself.Since when has 30 been middle aged.
I thought you were going to say your DD was dating someone 50+ yrs old

Lovewine1975 · 13/07/2026 13:53

I'm 7 years older than my DH, been together 16 years with a 14 year old daughter, somehow we coped with the age gap🙄

Iceandfire92 · 13/07/2026 13:57

To paraphrase the post without all the ridiculousness "a couple both in their twenties have started dating". In what realm could this possibly be an issue? This is probably the same poster who was aghast that her 19 year old DD had befriended a "middle-aged" 25 year old. Why the vitriol against those in their twenties over 25 OP? How peculiar.

I do hate to break it to you, but as your precious daughter enters the real world, there is a small possibility she will encounter people that are - shock horror- older than her. People aren't limited to interacting with, working with, forming friendships with or even dating people who happen to be older than them.

Bonkers1966 · 13/07/2026 13:59

Is the heat getting to you OP? He's 29.

HeyMoonPie · 13/07/2026 14:00

I started dating my husband when I was 20 - he was 29. I went away to college and he use to drive up to see me in between working abroad for a few weeks at a time. We married when I was 25 and he was 34. Next year we celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary ! Age is but a number !!

ScotiaLass · 13/07/2026 14:00

29 year old is not middle aged. And a 7 year age gap in your twenties is perfectly reasonable! Young men take longer to mature mentally and emotionally so 23 and 30 could be a perfectly good match.

NoSoapJustUseShowerGel · 13/07/2026 14:00

30 is a very long way from middle age!!

Also she’s 23, not a teenager.

Yabu

HoppingPavlova · 13/07/2026 14:02

And here I was expecting he would be 50yo from the thread title. Give your head a shake.

MargaretMeldrew · 13/07/2026 14:02

I sense another one post wonder🙄

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 13/07/2026 14:06

Wow I feel old now! The age gap is only a few years, they are both currently in their twenties. I don’t see the issue.

Based on the title I thought your 23 year old was going to be dating someone late 40s.

PinkArt · 13/07/2026 14:09

Those are the ages my parents were when they met. For their generation I think there was more of an age gap as I know my dad though that at 29 and divorcing his life was behind him. 29 now though can be barely out of the living with mum and dad stage thanks to the fucked housing market. They're both young adults, in their 20s, living a fun young person in their 20s life. It's hardly having to worry that he's about to retire and she's hitting her prime!

Leopardprintpyjamas · 13/07/2026 14:10

Log it with 101. He’s obviously up to no good

MrsKeats · 13/07/2026 14:10

He’s not middle aged. Stop being silly.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 13/07/2026 14:10

It’s hardly like he’s drawing his pension is it? Unclench.

WhatAMarvelousTune · 13/07/2026 14:11

7 yrs difference? Thats not that much. I thought you were going to say he was nearly 50, not nearly 30!

grumpygrape · 13/07/2026 14:13

OP, I think you need to check out Court of Protection.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Purplecatshopaholic · 13/07/2026 14:15

Jeezo. She’s not a child, and he’s not middle aged. It’s what, a 7 year gap? You are being silly.

BauhausOfEliott · 13/07/2026 14:16

Grow up
