AIBU to let my children use all inclusive on a group holiday?

Against my better judgement I agreed to a group holiday. Mixture of family and friends all know each other well. All have children ranging from baby-16

My BIL organised it but we all booked separately.

He sent a link to an all inclusive resort and that's what I and half of the group booked.

BIL and the half booked the same hotel but self catering.

It was £600 more for AI- which as we are here for 8 days works out as less than £20 per person per day (four of us)

First night was fine as we all went out for dinner but today has been hell.

We have had a pool day and my kids have been able to get snacks/drinks/etc as they like but to purchase it all is quite expensive.

We've just come back from dinner- which was 'free' for us but not for them and were told it wasn't fair if our kids used the AI.

I asked why they didn't book the AI and they said they didn't like AI- but they were at dinner having the same food as us.

I don't want to be say to our kids that they can't use the AI but equally don't want to fall out. I enquired how much it would cost to upgrade to AI and it was 2200€ per family.

Even if he wanted to protect his children from not having the snacks that your children have - that's life.
I used to go on holiday with my cousins (self catered) and their parents would buy ice creams and drinks constantly and eat out. We tended to eat at the caravan and maybe have an ice cream only. My parents wouldn't have told them to not buy food just because they don't.

Are you kidding @AIvSC ?

That wasn’t disappointing That was a fabulous update.

A man reflects on his behaviour and realises he was wrong and actually owns it. No fuss, no drama, an acknowledgement he’d been unreasonable and a happy holiday for everyone.

MammaofBree · 13/07/2026 23:47

Lovely outcome op 😊

tiptoptoemaytoe · 14/07/2026 00:37

I clicked YABU for even needing to start this thread- tell them to fuck the fuck off to the further side of fuck.

GOATYOAT · 14/07/2026 02:18

Just read you comments so someone else may have said this, but I bet your SIL is on MN and saw your post.😀

TrainyWainy · 14/07/2026 07:54

Yay!

Sorry that was longer than I meant.

TLDR Probably a disappointing update.

BIL realised the error of his ways and upgraded.
All is good.

Nothing more satisfying than having a man see the error of his ways. Great result.
I shall also keep fucknugget in my reserve.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Not disappointing at all, glad he saw the error of his ways!

Epidote · 14/07/2026 08:22

They didn't pay for the AI and their solution is for your kids not to use theirs because their kids feel bad.LOL.
No way.

Danikm151 · 14/07/2026 08:48

Glad he saw the error of his ways. On AI I would have challenged your kids to get more than your money’s worth!

They didn't read the whole thread and their solution is to spout completely irrelevant bollocks because the issue is resolved and they didn't know due to their haste in assuming their comment is relevant and original. LOL.

Your SIL is on MN and told your BIL last night that he's being a fucknugget😄

Came to say this! Waves at sensible SIL

NinjaCoffee · 14/07/2026 09:22

Wait… am I reading this right? You paid AI for your kids, they didn’t, now they are telling you that your kids can’t use the AI you paid for? WHAT. Simply say ‘we paid for it, they will
be using it’

sueelleker · 14/07/2026 09:28

Bloozie · 13/07/2026 15:03

It does indeed suck to be them and their kids, but you have paid for your children to be able to hydrate, snack and cool down without anyone having to think about it. They haven't.

I'd tell my bil that his request is understandable but unreasonable, and he needs to help his children understand that money doesn't grow on trees.

Totally agree. If you'd paid full board and he'd paid for B&B, does that mean you shouldn't eat dinner either?

sueelleker · 14/07/2026 09:33

SpaceRaccoon · 13/07/2026 16:23

And when OP is spotted by staff and asked to leave the resort, then what? Because it's against the T&Cs, and it's stealing.

That's why people who try to pay for only one person in a group at an all-you-can-eat buffet get chucked out.

sueelleker · 14/07/2026 09:39

PinkEasterbunny · 13/07/2026 19:06

Why don't you suggest they go to shop get a load of drinks and snacks then their dc won't miss out by the pool. Then if we're them I'd be off for a lovely dinner around the resort rather than stuck to the hotel. I'd book a boat trip, go for a walk and grab drinks and ice cream. Just get the benefit of not being AI really.

It amazes me that people still think you’re stuck in the hotel if you book AI

I agree. Eating/drinking in the hotel is an option, not an obligation. Even without AI, just normal board, we usually ate out several times during a holiday.

PinkEasterbunny · 14/07/2026 10:53

We go away later this week, on an AI basis - but we'll still have dinner out in the local town some nights, drink in the local bars and have day trips. But the AI deal was such a good offer, that we'll be quid's in even if we're not using it all the time.

The absolute best outcome!

TrainyWainy · 14/07/2026 10:56

That's what we do. I book an AI to cover all bases, then if we want to do things on top the option is there.

BurnTheWholeThingDown · 12/07/2026 21:49

This is the most batshit insane thing I’ve read all day, and the competition has been stiff.

Tell them to fuck off and stop being such complete fucknuggets. Don’t give them any hint that this is at all an acceptable request. It’s not.

Came here to say pretty much exactly the same 😅

On what planet do they think they have the right to tell someone they can't use the All Inclusive that they paid for? Absolutely mental behaviour

dh280125 · 14/07/2026 12:32

That is bonkers. Woah.

LouLou198 · 14/07/2026 12:46

OhBettyCalmDown · 12/07/2026 21:59

That’s exactly how you get thrown out of an AI hotel.

I was just thinking the same! Please do not get drinks/snacks for their children.
You have paid for it, so use it. AI is a godsend when you have small children that constantly need drinks in the hot weather. Ignore them!

weusedtobeapropercountry · 14/07/2026 13:16

He wants you to not make full use of the service you wanted and you paid for?

Is he going to reimburse you what the AI cost? Yk, since he's all about "fair".

Knob.

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 14/07/2026 14:12

READ THE THREAD PEOPLE!

They have now paid for the AI extra!
