AIBU to let my children use all inclusive on a group holiday?

Against my better judgement I agreed to a group holiday. Mixture of family and friends all know each other well. All have children ranging from baby-16

My BIL organised it but we all booked separately.

He sent a link to an all inclusive resort and that's what I and half of the group booked.

BIL and the half booked the same hotel but self catering.

It was £600 more for AI- which as we are here for 8 days works out as less than £20 per person per day (four of us)

First night was fine as we all went out for dinner but today has been hell.

We have had a pool day and my kids have been able to get snacks/drinks/etc as they like but to purchase it all is quite expensive.

We've just come back from dinner- which was 'free' for us but not for them and were told it wasn't fair if our kids used the AI.

I asked why they didn't book the AI and they said they didn't like AI- but they were at dinner having the same food as us.

I don't want to be say to our kids that they can't use the AI but equally don't want to fall out. I enquired how much it would cost to upgrade to AI and it was 2200€ per family.

On this occasion I’d be seeing if your kids can get some food and the treats available for their kids so they don’t miss out. Perhaps they assumed you’d be going out for meals and things so thought it wasn’t necessary. They should have discussed it but different people do different things on holiday. They will have to deal with the consequences of their actions.

What! Why should her kids have to be responsible for sneaking food and drinks to people. And the other people ‘don’t like AI’ so they will not be pleased.

MalcomVexx · 12/07/2026 22:05

I knew that’d get some holier than thou comments. The world won’t end because some kids got some extra drinks or chips at a location built on western excess and gluttony.

They aren't missing out, it's just pay as you go as opposed to AI. They aren't AI and OP shouldn't be encouraging her kids to take extra food and treats that other people haven't paid for.

The world won't end just because their parents haven't paid for AI either.

This is the most batshit insane thing I’ve read all day, and the competition has been stiff.

Tell them to fuck off and stop being such complete fucknuggets. Don’t give them any hint that this is at all an acceptable request. It’s not.

Fucknuggests 😂😂😂

Shinyandnew1 · 12/07/2026 22:10

I don’t understand. You’ve paid for your family-adults and children-to be all inclusive but they haven’t?

They want your children to not use the all inclusive food/drink because it’s not fair? Are they wanting you to not use it because that is unfair too?

britinnyc · 12/07/2026 22:10

What do they expect your kids to do, not eat because they didn’t pay for AI? I don’t get how their request can even be met, do they just mean snacks and drinks by the pool? Still that might be the most ridiculous request I have ever heard

ZenNudist · 12/07/2026 22:11

Why don't you suggest they go to shop get a load of drinks and snacks then their dc won't miss out by the pool. Then if we're them I'd be off for a lovely dinner around the resort rather than stuck to the hotel. I'd book a boat trip, go for a walk and grab drinks and ice cream. Just get the benefit of not being AI really.

Birdshitbridgegotme · 12/07/2026 22:11

What a cf he is! Use your AI that’s what you paid for. His kids, his problem! That’s what he gets for trying to do it cheaper.

Birdshitbridgegotme · 12/07/2026 22:13

I can’t believe the audacity of people!

Bestfootforward11 · 12/07/2026 22:15

A completely unreasonable request. So they want your kids to not use the AI that you have already paid for and instead you pay for food/snacks etc again??!

BirdLandedonmyHead · 12/07/2026 22:18

Why chose an AI hotel if they dont like AI?

dicentra365 · 12/07/2026 22:18

'Tell them to fuck off and stop being such complete fucknuggets'.

I mean, this is the best response you're going to get - you should use it, or at least embrace the spirit of it.

godmum56 · 12/07/2026 22:19

I had to read your OP twice because I couldn't believe it the first time. You are supposed to not let your kids have something that YOU have paid for? Really?

They can deal with the consequences of their actions by telling their DC the reason they can’t have the treats is that they have not paid for it, and the others have.

AI hotels which are not purely AI for all guests, are all over this.

Don’t pay, don’t get the drinks and snacks.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 12/07/2026 22:29

Absolutely ridiculous of him/ them to request that (not sure if it was just the BIL who said it).

Don’t give any quarter to this type of nonsense.

youvemadeyourpoint · 12/07/2026 22:32

@AIvSC it was quite hard to follow your OP tbh, didn’t make sense in places (on the free vino? 😂 ) but I managed to work out the gist of it.

Are they not wanting your DC to use the AI as it’s causing them problems with their own children? You would hardly start paying for food and drinks you’ve already paid for when booking. Their request is odd to say the least. They might be thinking your DC could order all the snacks/drinks etc… for all the kids using their AI bands, so they get it for free too. 🤷‍♀️

PanickingOnASunday · 12/07/2026 22:32

I'm going to go to the Ritz and tell people they should get out cos it's not fair as I'm not there.

People are fucking mental.

CinnamonBuns67 · 12/07/2026 22:34

Yanbu. You paid for it, so of course it's fair for your kids to use it. Tell them it's not your problem they didn't book on the all inclusive and you certainly won't be making it your kids problem.

Henriettina · 12/07/2026 22:37

Presumably they could have everything if they just pay, so it’s not like their kids are sitting there starving while yours scoff.

The parents just don’t want to pay for extras. Which is fine, but not your problem.

TokyoSushi · 12/07/2026 22:38

So they don’t want your DC to use their AI because their DC don’t have it and it’s unfair? That’s clearly absolutely ridiculous.

But one family on AI and one not was never going to end well.

Yetone · 12/07/2026 22:40

Does your BIL’s family intend to eat in the hotel restaurant every night or are they going to make their own food. Perhaps they thought other people might like to go out to a local restaurant.

Why the fuck should they????!!!!

Nearly50omg · 12/07/2026 22:43

Say it bluntly to your bil. So you are telling us NOT to use the facilities that we have PAID for in advance and to pay AGAIN because you haven’t done what we have?!! Are you on glue???!!!what an entitled cock wobble he is!! Just laugh at him and say “we’ve paid for the food already fuckwit!”

We had planned to go out for meals and are happy to do so, but it is hot so the kids are getting lots of drinks/slushies.

To a pp I can't ask the kids to get it for their cousin's, the hotel is rightly very clear that this is not allowed and we could be thrown out.

To the pp who asked what they said. It was more or less, 'it is unfair that your children can get unlimited drinks when ours can't, we can't afford to buy them a drink every time yours gets one.'

It seems to be the kids more than the adults that they have a problem with, but then DH and I don't drink alcohol so mainly we have been drinking from our water bottles so hadn't been an issue (we don't drink and yet I still think AI is a bargain)
