AIBU to let my children use all inclusive on a group holiday?

Against my better judgement I agreed to a group holiday. Mixture of family and friends all know each other well. All have children ranging from baby-16

My BIL organised it but we all booked separately.

He sent a link to an all inclusive resort and that's what I and half of the group booked.

BIL and the half booked the same hotel but self catering.

It was £600 more for AI- which as we are here for 8 days works out as less than £20 per person per day (four of us)

First night was fine as we all went out for dinner but today has been hell.

We have had a pool day and my kids have been able to get snacks/drinks/etc as they like but to purchase it all is quite expensive.

We've just come back from dinner- which was 'free' for us but not for them and were told it wasn't fair if our kids used the AI.

I asked why they didn't book the AI and they said they didn't like AI- but they were at dinner having the same food as us.

I don't want to be say to our kids that they can't use the AI but equally don't want to fall out. I enquired how much it would cost to upgrade to AI and it was 2200€ per family.

You paid for it so of course your DC should take advantage of it, your BIL was to mean to pay Al so it's his problem.

This is the most batshit insane thing I’ve read all day, and the competition has been stiff.

Tell them to fuck off and stop being such complete fucknuggets. Don’t give them any hint that this is at all an acceptable request. It’s not.

Howling at this but agree 💯! My kids would be constantly asking for stuff (big lads) so to avoid this we do AI even tho a) I would rather not and b) we will eat out on some nights as I like to still sample some local food ahem wine!

OneLimePombear · Yesterday 20:18

As he doesn’t like all inclusive he can pay for drinks, ice creams and experience all not included.

AgileMentor · Yesterday 20:45

Imagine being a grown man and getting the hump over kids having a couple snacks. I’d tell him to get fluffed and enjoy the rest of your time x

Peachy2005 · Yesterday 20:49

It’s really up to your DH to tell his brother he must be having a laugh and to get himself to the supermarket to fill his fridge and freezer with drinks, ice-creams, snacks etc. Not that anyone should need to tell him… Maybe just remember (both of you) that you don’t need to be quite so nice - it probably would have been more effective to just laugh in his face the first time than to do the diplomatic “let me think about it” or whatever, that left you stewing for a chunk of last night. Hopefully it’s all sorted by now 🤞💪 Have a great holiday x

CarpetofBluebells · Yesterday 20:58

If you had not gone all inclusive, what would your BiL have said if you had deeper pockets and allowed your DC more drinks and slushies that their cousins? Would he make your DC have drinks only at the same time as his?
His request is ridiculous btw.

Peachy2005 · Yesterday 21:01

Sorry, just re-read that you were gob-smacked and didn’t know what to say in the moment….make a plan for next time to have something ready to say or just laugh in his face😉 It seems likely there will be a next time…

Jeschara · Yesterday 21:03

Why are you even asking the question when the answer isovious? Your relatives did not pay all inclusive you did.
Your children should be able to have what you would agree to them to have. Do not listen to the relatives.
Have uou given in to these mean spirited tight buggers? If you have then they have put themselves in charge, and sorry I have no sympathy for you and your husband. If it was me I would not let them mug me off. I would tell them to mind their own business and if that did not work I am afraid it would be fuck off.

Phoenixfire1988 · Yesterday 21:17

So they went cheap and are now moaning its costing them more money ( morons) and expect your children not to use the AI you PAID for . .. tell them to fuck off i would of honestly laughed so bloody hard when they came out with that absolutely batshit demand !
We just came back from ai and my kids ate their weight in ice cream donuts waffles and pizza from the snack bar aswell as none stop drinks and kiddies cocktails it was worth the extra money .

Waterbaby41 · Yesterday 21:20

Anyone else waiting to hear how the conversation with the fucknugget went today? 🤣

I'm sorry I couldn't update after breakfast, I don't know if it was because I'm away but I couldn't log into MN at all, it kept coming up with server issues.

As it was I didn't need to have posted. This morning BIL announced good naturedly that he hadn't been fair to those that had bought the AI- not just my family. I imagine my sil had words.

As some people had guessed we had a good deal (which is why I thought my BIL had chosen the hotel) and it is much more expensive normally.

The hotel have been great and have offered a deal if everyone in the group upgraded - I don't know the full cost but he said it wasn't as good as ours but much better than what was initially offered (the 2200 extra was for a family of four, so a lot more expensive than what we paid) and everyone is happy.

We have had a lovely day at the beach and have been out for dinner, BIL worked out what he would have spent if he had stayed on resort and not had AI and even with being out most of the day he has still saved money- so I think he is converted 😂

Thanks for making me laugh and listening to me, a nights rest and everything was different.

Sadly he was so reasonable this morning I didn't get to use fucknugget, but I will have it ready for next time.

I don't know, I was just cross and hot. But yes I just wanted to check I wasn't being unreasonable to let my kids keep using the AI

I've cooled down in the room now and I'm going to bed. Thanks all.

I think this is the most mental thread I’ve ever read on here. How could you possibly think you were being unreasonable for letting your children eat food that you’ve paid for?

What’s next are you being unreasonable letting them sleep in their beds you’ve paid for as you have a bigger room than the others?

🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

AIvSC · Yesterday 21:22

Sorry that was longer than I meant.

TLDR Probably a disappointing update.

BIL realised the error of his ways and upgraded.
All is good.

@AIvSC happy it worked out. Just put fucknugget on the shelf- it might come in handy in the future

Housebashing · Yesterday 21:23

Bigreddog25 · Yesterday 18:16

Can't you just sneak their kids a few of the AI snacks?

Actually insane to expect you not to use what you paid for

Be careful, they will be building the gallows for you as we speak. You’re done for now.

YANBU

Not booking the AI is exactly the sort of thing DH and I would do 😭 but I would never expect friends/relatives to curtail their experiences because we were cheap.

murasaki · Yesterday 21:27

Glad he saw sense, or more likely had it hammered into him.

I bet SIL ripped him a new one when they got back to their room 😆

Glad all is well and maybe he’ll think about how ridiculous an idea sounds before he expresses it next time. Or maybe not, he is a man after all 🙄😆

IDrinkTeaAllTheTime · Yesterday 21:33

Great update, OP. I’m glad he finally saw sense, regardless of how he got there 😂. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Good news!

There was some kind of server issue this morning from what I could tell. I couldn’t get on either for a bit and it was mentioned on down detector

WhitePhantom · Yesterday 22:16

Your SIL is on MN and told your BIL last night that he's being a fucknugget😄

FWC2026 · Yesterday 22:25

I'm glad it's all sirte& you've had a great day!

im glad his wife he saw the error of his ways!!! blame it on the Sun!!

hooe you enjoy the rest of your holiday!!

PS. I THINK THAT WAS REALLY DECENT OF THE HOTEL TO LET THEM UPGRADE ONCE THEY REALISED THE ERROR OF THEIR WAYS

ThistleTits · Yesterday 22:25

@AIvSC I'll not be suprised if they try to get the snacks, drinks etc on your account. Don't because they can remove you from the hotel, if caught.
Is this your sister's husband or your husband's brother? If the former, have a word with your sister, the latter, your husband deals with it.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · Yesterday 23:27

Good to hear that Alls Well that Ends Well @AIvSC
Hope you enjoy the rest of the holiday.

Please don't consider this thread a waste as it has introduced us all to the invaluable term "Fucknugget" which will forever be your BIL's secret nickname and make you laugh when he next forgets to connect his Brain to his Gob before making a pronouncement.

(ps.. I can't remember which pp came up with it, but show yourself and take a bow it was v funny.)
