A nuisance and a let down

Too heavy to carry easily when shopping

Too unweildy to handle without looking like Stan Laurel (one for the young 'uns there)

Once home, dont really have a chopping board big enough to have enough space

Water everywhere, all over the chopping board and spilling over onto the worktops

Then the thing is tasteless

Then I cant fit the leftovers in the fridge properly

And I bought the smallest one I could find.

I agree that it's tasteless, I much prefer a Galia

Oh and don't forget watermelon is riddled with seeds so they all have to be scooped out. Far too much faff.

I love watermelon! I must be strange, I find it easier to prepare than other melons.

M&S baby watermelon is the way to go. DD will not accept substitutes 😂

I picked the most amazing sweet watermelon today from Aldi, first one I’ve had this year and it certainly isn’t a let down!

M&S do baby ones..much easier to carry. Lime juice squeezed onto watermelon is amazing and so refreshing in hot weather.

Can I offer you chopped apple and some grapes that were in the fridge? Or a slice of pineapple? Or a snack cucumber?

Chop it into large cubes and squeeze over the juice of a lime or two. Add a bunch of chopped fresh mint. And some crumbled / cubed feta. And if you're feeling extra decadent, a small handfull of pistachios. Or blueberries. Or both.

I am in Spain at the moment. The watermelon is superb, very, very juicy and sweet.
But it was probably picked when it was fully ripe - hugely important.
(Bought in a Mercadona supermarket.The cherries are also gorgeous.)

My local shop sells it already sectioned. It’s one of those times it’s worth the extra cost.

you get to see that it is ripe and juicy and avoid the production.

I’m practically living on the stuff right now. Chilled watermelon in the summer heat is the best food.

I'm meh on watermelon. Sometimes I just fancy a slice, dusted with ground ginger, but then I eat the seeds as well because I can't be bothered with the faff. I will probably get a watermelon plant growing in my stomach, won't I?

I find watermelons from Tesco tasteless, Waitrose a bit more pricey but taste so nice, and very refreshing.

I've also taken to cutting it with a serrated bread knife, slice as in downwards not a moon shape chunk like I do with honey dew/cantaloupe melons, so much easier and the juice doesn't seem to leak out.

It's so easy though just get it delivered and chop it with a big sharp knife - it's really delicious and refreshing

I’m not a fan but my family love it. They get through one a week. I will admit it’s nice with feta and onion. But eating it plain? Nope.

Normal melons are so much nicer.

Black pearl watermelons don’t have seeds and are about the size of a volleyball.
I (or available family member) carry watermelon in a string bag or tie it up in a Japanese furoshiki cloth.
We had half a small one today. Cut it around the equator and store it face down on a deep plate in the fridge.
Watermelon, mint and feta salad is delicious! Worth all the fuss.
