Metro article about prisoners and the heatwave, but if they behaved they would not be in prison ?

Im all for caring for humanity as a whole, but in terms of prisoners they did commit crimes and get locked up.

Fair enough, I thought what I was getting at was obvious.

But seriously, on the subject of prisoners suffering from the heat- I actually do think it's important to be considered, and I'm glad that there are people like you who prioritize prisoners' welfare (I'm honestly not being snarky). However, I do also think there an awful lot of people suffering in the heat- for example, I can pretty much guarantee that for every over heating prisoner there are ten seriously ill people on hospital wards suffering. The prisoners also have the great advantage of being on general much younger (which massively affects the ability of the body to cope with heat). There has to be a prioritization of public funds, and I think prisoners should be at the bottom of the list.

I think we are going to have to agree to disagree - but at least we can do it respectfully 😊thank you for your post.

That’s fair. Finding joy in prisoners overheating in overcrowded cells but no access to open windows, ice cubes, cold drinks, sweltering is not fair at all.
I know they’ve a tiny fridge between 3 in a 2 man cell.

Duvetdayneeded · 11/07/2026 23:02

So it sucks to be a prisoner.., hey, they shouldn’t have done the crime if they can’t do the time

ZanyPoet · 11/07/2026 23:06

ilovesooty · 11/07/2026 21:53

Thankfully someone who murdered a fellow prisoner wouldn't be allowed to do that.

That's a shame. Anyone who removes the risk of my child becoming the victim of a paedophile deserves at least a fan.

You realise these prisoner on prisoner attacks aren’t a good thing? They’re a sign of our failing justice system that fails to protect prisoners, and breeds a culture of violence?

Oh ffs OP, of course YABU.
Do try to think a little bit more widely than the obvious thing hitting you in the face

OonaStubbs · 11/07/2026 23:36

Why do prisoners deserve free air-con when so many law-abiding people can't afford it, not to mention, schools, hospitals etc. They already get enough free stuff, food, playstations etc. There has to be SOME consequences for breaking the law.

Loss of liberty is a pretty big consequence.

reprohensiletail · 11/07/2026 23:38

Some of my fellow humans don't deserve much sympathy. Conditions should be kept at a level that doesn't threaten life, but do I care if they're comfortable? No, not really.

OonaStubbs · 11/07/2026 23:40

iwasboredinbed · 11/07/2026 23:37

Loss of liberty is a pretty big consequence.

Plenty of our law-abiding people are confined to their homes, too scared to go outside because of the risk of crime.

The consequence is the loss of liberty, as has been explained multiple times on this thread.

pretty sure you are, when you kill said paedophile. They don't become zombies.

And that is going to be a disproportionate position for the majority of those people. It still has nothing to do with ensuring prisons are safe, humane environments.

Our justice system is already failing big time by letting people out when they shouldn't be, not locking them in full stop and not protecting victims and the rest of us.

Prisoners cleaning up and removing child abusers? Of well, unlucky.

Jesus, take a listen to yourself will you?

If we let prisoners do that, it won’t be long until they turn on staff.

check your privilege. Just because you obviously don't live in one of the worst areas in this country, doesn't mean others have that luxury.

JMSA · 11/07/2026 23:46

Agreed. I work in a high school and the conditions are really bad.
That said, my dad was a Prison Officer all his years, so I wouldn’t wish discomfort on the staff.

No one is talking about "letting them" do anything, but when they get rid of child abusers, they deserve a good fan and frankly I am grateful that's one less in the world.

That's another debate, but WHY on earth we try to protect paedophiles and their freedom is beyond me.

Another one failing to realise that many prisoners are on remand.
