AIBU to hope the USA crash out the World Cup because of this FIFA corruption?

I'm no fan of Trump, but until this red card nonsense I hoped the USA would do well. I always think it's good when the tournament hosts do well.
But now it's come out that Trump personally called FIFA to get the red card removed? Absolute joke. It’s blatant corruption. I really hope Belgium absolutely humiliate them.

I think whether it should have been a red card isn't the main point. There are plenty of decisions that could be challenged. That's just the nature of the game.

Do you think Trump is unique? Do you think he's so intelligent that he is the only one to have thought to do this or do you think he did it, because it's the done thing, but decided to broadcast it for some reason?

No, but he is the only one so dumb that he thinks he’ll get away with it…

Mummyto2rugrats · Yesterday 08:34

Lets face it anyone who follows football knows that questionable decisions are made whether by FIFA officials, whilst a team can appeal a team with integrity wouldn't or shouldn't a 1 match ban is nothing and if you are appealing a 1 match ban 1) what message does that send grassroots ? - bleet loud enough / shed tears and you get to play, 2) what message does it send your team - you can't do this without this one player he is the one holding this game together and we will only win with him 3) what message does it send the player / other players young kids starting their journey - yeah we have rules on tackles that are taking a player out but don't worry you can appeal and no lesson learnt you can get away with potential life changing injurys if you want as cry loud enough your off the hook.

igelkott2026 · Yesterday 08:36

I'm surprised Trump doesn't appeal to FIFA to get the US reinstated but maybe even he realises he can't go that far.

Imagine what it's going to be like during the Olympics though. The US teams will have to win every relay or else. He will still be in power then.

He should’ve refused to play, really.

That would be breach of contract, he can’t do that.

Just Google it. 🥱

Are you referring to Trump's comment that if Belgium would win, he would claim it was rigged?

a thumping 4-1 makes that difficult do but his supporters might well be saying this on SM

Can you at least give a google source?

troothfairy · Yesterday 08:42

Do you know what, I’m actually quite glad that it got overturned, and they still got beaten.

If they’d not been able to play their star player they’d have bleated on about it being unfair and justified their trouncing by saying it was a fix.

(by ‘they’ I mean Trump)

He should’ve refused to play, really.

Can just imagine the nation wide hate campaign DT would've drummed up if he'd done that.

I too feel a bit sorry for the player involved, he'd accepted the red card and subsequent ban and seems very graceful in defeat. But that said I'm thrilled the USA are out, just so their leader can see that cheats don't always prosper 😁.

Feetballislife · Yesterday 08:48

Team USA aren’t just cheats, now they’re LOSER cheats.

GreenAlgae · Yesterday 08:54

I can’t wait to see what pathetic, childish, snidey little comment that tangerine twat will come out with when USA crashes out

Well he'll claim it was fixed. Rigged. Faked. Obviously.

Edited

I don’t feel sorry for him. He was happy to benefit from
corruption.

Great to see the thrashing of the US by Belgium 4-1. Trump corrupts everything he can. However, I do feel sorry for for the players.

Sounds like Trump ended up just fuelling the passion and energy of the Belgian players. Well done them!

OrangeLane · Yesterday 09:04

echt · Yesterday 08:55

Team USA did not cheat. Trump did.

Yeah, but it doesn't really work like that. There's a FIFA rule (something like Article 15c) that says member states have to avoid political interference in an absolute manner.

By breaking that rule, it's not just a Trump thing. The US, as a member state of FIFA, and part of this tournament, has broken a pretty big rule.

Yes the individual players and the manager and the fans weren't the ones to break it, but they can't stay untarnished by it. It's not fair on them at all, and I do feel for them, but Trump's decision has ruined it for them all. The US broke a rule, in a significant way. They're cheaters.

Monty36 · Yesterday 09:05

Trump doesn’t strike me as patriotic so I doubt he is bothered.

Fair enough. I feel for the player as he’ll get a lot of heat online.

I don't get all the hate and vitriol directed at the team. They personally weren't involved with the decision and off course their manager will play the best team he can (as would any coach in this position). Hate Trump, Fifa, go for it but the players?

Edit, just saw the excellent result! Even better that the corrupt team were smashed. I await Trump wanting the Belgian goals disallowed and Fifa agreeing.

If the players play, they are not sportsmen. They are corrupt cheats. The coach should bench the player and if he doesn't, the players should refuse to play.

Namingbaba · Yesterday 07:46

I’m glad of the score but also feel a bit sorry for the decent team members and fans of the USA. I also don’t approve of sending messages directed at the suspended player. Like he said he accepted the red card when he was given it and then accepted the decision when he was told he could play. He didn’t play a part in the corruption.

I’ve yet to watch any of it but reading one article, it seemed the atmosphere was different from the team and fans. I wonder what the score would have been without this.

He did take part.
He was red carded. Shouldn't have played in the Belgium game. He did.
He is corrupt. He is a cheat.

Well, he can. Are they going to march him on to the pitch at gun point. ?

ExtraOnions · Yesterday 09:31

Cheats and losers now vilified on a world stage.. this is a decison that will haunt them.

Which is a shame as they have had a great World Cup, and couid have been knocked out in good grace.

Good point. This way they were thumped fair and square. Poch might be looking for a new job.

The red card was overturned. That was not his decision.

He can't decide to not play - if he spoke out against Trump, etc. that would be his last game of football. (not saying he'd be shot but he would be dropped from the team for good)

The best result was that they lost anyway.

Exactly. It’s just such a shame Trump interfered, I think we’d all be congratulating the hosts on getting so far and putting on a good tournament. He tainted it, and the nation should be royally pissed off with him this morning.

Anyway, petulance incoming, no doubt!

Indaloo · Yesterday 09:36

FIFA need to go. I don’t even care about football but their antics are continually sickening.

They will go. And I will celebrate when the day comes.

I am just wondering what’s the final straw
